Thanks H. At least it's not one of those silly monorail pictures.

The Gillig is favored by drivers and passengers alike. It has the best instrument panel and has the best climate control system of the 3 buses. It's the most common bus used at the Fort.

The RTS is the older bus. It has the steps. They are being phased out. Never used at the Fort.

The Nova bus is a piece of crap made in Canada. Rumor has it that early on the roof AC system would catch on fire. They vibrate at 40mph. They have an annoying self braking system that engages as soon as you lift off the gas. You can't coast without feeling the bus jerk repeatedly. It will actually come to complete stop without applying the brakes. It's hard to give guests a good ride with this bus. Here's the kicker, it's a Prevost. The newer ones are better.

Misc facts:

. Only one model has a cabin heating system.

. Drivers can't adjust the AC temp. It's either on or off, it's preset, so don't ask the driver to turn up the temp.

. How do the drivers stay warm when it's so cold in the rest of the bus? They turn on the windshield defogger.

. Although it's noisy in the bus, drivers can hear private conversations about half way down the bus.

. How many riders will fit in a bus? About 75.

. All buses get washed & cleaned every night.

Except at the Outpost going to Epcot!!  More than 50% of the time, the Epcot bus from the Fort is an RTS bus. I know you've said it's totally random, but we ride the Epcot bus from the Fort  ALOT and we get a ALOT of RTS buses.

This would be the bus from the Fort to Hollywood Studios that DH and I had all to ourselves the week before Thanksgiving week in 2009....

That's the same day we rode Toy Story Mania 4 times - only once with a Fast Pass and never with more than a 30 minute wait.

Good times!!

Are the horse cars still running? I didn't see one out all time we were there in January.

The picture is from February and yes, it was running. Off to the right of the horse car was a stall with one of the horses in it resting and a couple of CMs brushing him down.

VM South Bus Facility

This is VM South, vehicle maintenace south, located way back stage.

If something goes wrong with a bus, you'll be told to take it to FIW, see below. They'll attempt to fix the problem, but if they can't it's off to VM south. That's where the buses get repaired and serviced. You'll see buses in different stages of dis-assembly. I get a kick out of the huge lifts they use to lift the buses for servicing.

The smaller white rectangles are buses

FIW Bus Facility

The two white rectangular buildings are the FIW facility. It stands for fuel, inspect, & wash. It's located behind the car care center on World Dr.

If you drive a WDW bus at night, towards the end of the shift, you'll be told, post trip &  FIW. That means take the bus to one of the pre-designated locations and do an inspection then drop the bus off at FIW. It goes in one end of the larger building and comes out the other end, fueled and inspected. Then it goes through the smaller building to be washed. After washing it's parked in the staging lot where you can see a few buses lined up ready to go.

The way it works is you drop off a dirty bus and pick up a clean one and take it back to the park that you're driving out of. It will be used the next day.
