News: Disney Star Wars Land Restaurant Details and Concept Art!

So, did ya catch The Wonderful World of Disney special celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Disneyland last night with your Mickey Ears proudly strapped to your head (or was that just me?)?

If so, then you may have seen Harrison Ford introduce new concept art for Star Wars Land! We were especially excited to see that these included a few renderings for dining options coming when Star Wars Lands open in both Disney World and Disneyland.

After the D23 Expo this past Summer, we previewed a few of these experiences for you in this Disney Star Wars Land Cantina post, but now we have even more details! (And we made our case way back in 2013 for WHY Disney needed a Cantina here!)

From Orlando Theme Park News...

As the park continues to get ready to start building two new themed lands, work continues to take place in backstage areas at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
In addition to the demolition of Catastrophe Canyon and the work being done to vacate the former Creative Costuming building, a quite large portion of the backstage areas located south of the existing Cast Member parking garage was closed and officially became a construction zone on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.

Here is a map showing the area that closed on March 15 (which was not accessible by park Guests):

The new construction zone is believed to be the rough location of the new Slinky Dog-themed coaster.

Also, as you can clearly see, the area encompasses also the water tower of Disney's Hollywood Studios. The park confirmed that the water tower will be removed as part of the re-branding process of the park.

From Orlando Theme Park News...

A few days ago, we posted a brief news on our social media pages involving a newly-renamed themed area of Disney's Hollywood Studios. This afternoon we are going to follow up on that news to add a few more details and to discuss about possible future plans for one of the oldest (yet most appreciated) areas of a park that's undergoing its biggest expansion ever. Indeed, it looks like the Walt Disney World Resort is finally ready to give the Muppets a bit more elbow room.

As previously announced, many of the attractions currently located in the Streets of America themed area of Disney's Hollywood Studios will be officially closing to the public on April 2, 2016. Among the offerings that will be closing their doors we can find Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, Honey I Shrunk The Kids Movie Set Adventure, the Premiere Theater, as well as a character greeting location, some food & beverage locations (including the Studio Catering Co. restaurant), and a few stores.

With the removal of all of these offerings, Muppet*Vision 3D will become the only attraction in that area of the park, which will therefore renamed and will become Muppets Courtyard and will also include the nearby restaurants and shops. The old Pizza Planet restaurant (which is currently closed for a lengthy refurbishment) and Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano are expected to be re-themed to fit in this land.

Additionally, the small Mickey Avenue area (located next to Pixar Place) will be eliminated, and the Walt Disney: One Man's Dream attraction will become part of the nearby Animation Courtyard.

The following map highlights all of the areas (including some backstage locations) that will be closed:

Therefore, starting April 3, Disney’s Hollywood Studios Guests will find the following themed areas:

  • Hollywood Boulevard;
  • Sunset Boulevard;
  • Echo Lake;
  • Commissary Lane;
  • Pixar Place;
  • Animation Courtyard;
  • Muppets Courtyard.
A new park map will reflect all of these changes. We will continue to keep you updated on this regard.

Star Wars Land set to be built on the former backlot area?

27 minutes ago in "Star Wars Land"

The site of the upcoming Star Wars Land has been a hot topic among fans, and Disney has now given perhaps the biggest public hint of its chosen location.

Overnight, Disney has added the originally released concept art of Star Wars Land to the construction wall by the Writer's Stop at Streets of America. (Photo below shows the wall as of Sunday, which at that time did not show the concept art)

If this positioning of the artwork is hinting at what is to come behind the walls, then it seems that Star Wars Land will be built on the backlot, and not on the Echo Lake/Indiana Jones area as previously thought. In the Echo Lake scenario, the backlot was expected to be home to an unannounced phase 3 expansion of the park.

Adding even more weight to this theory is that in the new Toy Story Land concept art released on Sunday, a second land appears on the left edge, which appears to be that of Star Wars. Its position puts it on the Streets of America area.

As we first told you in August, Star Wars-themed lands are coming to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Recently we featured BB-8 and R2-D2 as they explored two mysterious locations, and many of you guessed correctly that they had discovered the construction sites for these all-new, immersive themed lands!

Today, we’re excited to celebrate the official groundbreaking at Disneyland park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida with this exclusive 360-degree photo, produced with help from our friends at Littlstar, from the 14-acre construction site at Disneyland park. Take a look below, and keep a sharp eye out for some of the unique resources that are being brought to the project.

In these all-new lands, guests will be transported to a never-before-seen planet inhabited by humanoids, droids and many others. First Look: Toy Story Land Attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Thomas Smith

by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

Just minutes ago, we shared a sneak peek of what’s coming to Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including new details on the land’s attractions set to bring the world of Toy Story to life for you and your family.

In Toy Story Land, you’ll find yourself shrunk to the size of a toy to explore the world of Andy’s backyard with your favorite Toy Story characters, including Woody and Buzz. There are two new themed attractions being developed for Toy Story Land.

The first – Slinky Dog Dash – will be a family coaster attraction you’ll want to ride again and again. The attraction features a coaster track that Andy has built all over his backyard using his Mega Coaster Play Kit, but as you know, he has a pretty amazing imagination, so he’s combined it with some of his other toys, according to Imagineer Kathy Mangum. Take a look at a concept video of Slinky Dog Dash that Kathy shared earlier.

On Slinky Dog Dash, you will zip, dodge and dash around many turns and drops that Andy has created to really make Slinky and his coils stretch to his limits.

The second all-new attraction in Toy Story Land will be Alien Swirling Saucers. This attraction is designed as a toy play set that Andy got from Pizza Planet, inspired by the first Toy Story film. Aliens are flying around in their toy flying saucers and trying to capture your rocket toy vehicle with “The Claw.”

As you rotate around the toy planets and satellites as part of the game, you’ll swirl to the beat of fun “Space Jazz” music developed just for this experience, Mangum said. The music, the lighting, and the sound effects will add to the flurry of your adventure while “The Claw” looms ominously over you.

Also today, Mangum shared an update that beginning Memorial Day weekend, even more guests will be able to experience Toy Story Mania with the addition of a third track.

Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more details on Toy Story Land.
