West Thompson Lake Campground, Thompson, CT

Recommended Posts

It is an Army Corp of Engineers campground still run by them. They have a disc golf course there as well as some trails. Boat launch down at the lake and lots of people taking out canoes, kayaks, and other boats. Little picnic area by the boat launch as well. Small campground. 22 sites about half have electric and water at the site, the ones that dont there are plenty of water spigots not far away at all. Dump station on the way out. All the sites are a gravel dirt mix. Saw all types. The hosts were in a class A, there was an Airstream, a couple of pop ups, a Class C, a class B, a truck camper, tents. One comfort station. Kept very clean and really second so far only to the Fort. We had a non electric site and it was $15 a night. There are a couple of sites, we had one, that are right next to the playground area. Tons of shade. Not really any sites that would be in the sun all day. Definitely bring some bug spray or your preferred deterrent. The entire campground was handicap accessible. As far as I could tell all the picnic tables had the extra overhang to allow a wheel chair to roll up easily. This is definitely a place on the will be back list.

Our campsite is right on the other side of the playground in this picture.

Looks like a nice park. The camp sites appear to be a good size with a lot of privacy. What was with the tent in the shelter?

They were pretty much fully booked for the weekend. The shelter site doesnt have a lot of ground space available so they probably did that as the only place they could fit it.

That is a pretty camp ground.  I was wondering about the tent in the shelter too.  Looked neat.  Nice tent you have also.

Thanks. We bought it for our December trip and really like it. Sets up in 5 minutes tops.

Great pics Jason - thanks for sharing!

Looks like a lovely place and not terribly far from here.  And good to know bigger campers can squeeze in.  We lost the ability to go to a couple of our favorite state parks in MA when we got this camper.  :(

But Lyn really wants to know if they're ok with pups swimming in the lake because if they are... (runs to the car).

Jedi was one of many dogs in the lake. The Rangers came by and didn't have any problem and no signs saying no dogs.

Our friends had 3 dogs with them too and no problems on that either. Just the usual leash requirements.

If if you want to figure out a weekend I would love to go back.

Also there is a short dock and a gentleman was practicing some dock diving with one of his dogs. They were having s great time. I will say there is no swimming but you can wade in just fine.

Awesomesauce!  This definitely sounds like a great place for us.  I'll have to see what the upcoming weekends look like.  If we find an open one, I'll be sure to let you know.  :)
