Rivers of light coming soon??

Recommended Posts

Well, here's some new information for you-

TCD Twin #1 knows some AK CM's who were recently being trained to work with the Rivers of Light show- like how to operate the Fastpass and Standby lines, seat guests, etc.

Well, all of that training was recently halted, and has not been rescheduled.  Nobody in the AK management hierarchy is talking about Rivers of Light as something that will be happening anytime soon.

I'm waiting for David Miller's notcomingsoon and nevermind hashtags.

Hey everyone..... check in on the 9th on the blog. Trust me... anyone there on the 10th-17th... might get a surprise and delight ? you will see a major announcement. Sent from my SM-G935T using Tap

Update: Tomorrow the Disney blog will be posted about ROL around 10 am. In the morning there will be dining packages available. They will have some great surprise days for DVC members and

One of the lead rumormonger sites, WDWMAGIC, started a nice round of speculation this morning by reporting that the official Disney Site was now mentioning the availability of Rivers of Light dining packages in May, 2017:

http://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/rivers-of-light/news/13oct2016-rivers-of-light-dining-packages-to-begin-in-may-2017.htm

UPDATE 11:20am EDT. The web page at the Disney site has now been removed, leaving the question of if the information is incorrect, or not yet ready to be released.

Original Post

According to the official Disney World website, dining packages for the upcoming Rivers of Light will begin on May 1 2017.

The show is expected to debut before that time however, although Disney has yet to announce any update on its opening.

________________________________________________________

That "article" started another round of speculation and discussion on their forum.

Before this, all the self-proclaimed experts over there were predicting the imminent opening of the show.

Now, suddenly, they're not so sure.

I have a source who would know if the show was about to open anytime soon.

As I said earlier, it isn't.

Ha ha! I will say there was a sign promoting it when I toured the Disney Reservation Center. That gave me some hope, but TCD is smashing it.

Sorry.

I also think that the new holiday show they're doing to be doing at DHS is further evidence that Rivers of Light will not open before the end of 2016: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/10/all-new-holiday-nighttime-spectacular-jingle-bell-jingle-bam-coming-to-disneys-hollywood-studios-at-walt-disney-world-resort/

With as cheap and stingy as they've been with replacing all the things that they've taken away, I just can't imagine that they would open two new shows in the same timeframe.

So now they just have to figure out how to monetize it.  How about a special "hot toddy and Christmas Cookies" ahead of the tree light for the bargin price of $39.99 for adults $29.99 for the kiddies - plus a special visit to Santa.

You can always trust Disney to go after your wallet!

The rumor mill keeps on churning!  Just posted to WDWNT...

I know that there has been a tremendous amount of speculation as to when Disney might be debuting Rivers of Light, the new nighttime show for Animal Kingdom (which is now a whopping 6 months late after being set to debut April 22nd, 2016), but it looks like we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Supposedly. Maybe.

“Rivers of Light,”the majestic nighttime jewel, coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom creates an illuminating musical experience for guests. Currently in development with a premiere date to be announced soon, “Rivers of Light” will celebrate the magic of animals, humans and the natural world with a blend of performers, floating lanterns and theatrical animal imagery. (David Roark, photographer)

If sources are to be believed, Disney is eyeing November 18th, 2016 as the official debut date for Rivers of Light. This is not set in stone and is still being discussed internally, but it seems highly likely at this point in time. This would be just days ahead of the Destination D event where it is believed D23 members in attendance will get to be a part of a private showing of the new nighttime spectacular.

Do yall remember when Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island had bands, djs, stilt walkers and all of this "new" stuff 10 years ago?

It's the same pattern we keep talking about, take something away and replace with something we used to have, sure this is holiday themed and probably better than the old party scene but still.

And haven't you always been able to meet Santa at the Market place?

Good observation.  But, it has been a really long time since Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island had entertainment like that.  As a matter of fact, I remember when they would sometimes have fireworks at Downtown Disney.

You are right, Santa has always been there.  Heck, you could even bring your dog to meet him there at one time.  I don't remember Santa Goofy every being there, though.

There is some really weird stuff going on with this show.

The amount of scrambling going on behind the scenes is unprecedented.

As I said earlier, there was a goal to get the show opened sometime this fall.  They hired a bunch of new attractions CM's to work in the theater and operate the FP and Dining Package queues, and started to train them.  The reason for so many new CM's was that the batch of College Program kids they hired to staff the show for its originally announced April opening date had come and gone.  Then, about four weeks ago, that training was abruptly stopped, and those CM's were pawned off to other attractions.  It is significant that as of today, that training has not been rescheduled.  Granted, it doesn't take long to train a bunch of kids how to usher and seat guests, but that training has to be completed at some point before they can open this show to the public.

So what's going on?

The reports that they've been rehearsing the show are true.

And those rehearsals have revealed that there are still elements of this show that don't work as intended and designed.

There are big problems.

But, the guys up top want this show to open.

The sooner the better.

So, just like they did with the Jungle Book Alive With Magic fiasco, they are crafting a show with the stuff that works.  And that's what we are going to see.

Soon.

It is really interesting to me that there are two different descriptions of the show posted on the official Disney website.  I think someone goofed and left the original one up when the new one was posted.

Here's the first description:

A Story at Sundown Set Aglow

Be enchanted by a brilliant show of glowing lanterns, magical fireflies, dancing fountains and animal spirits.

As sunlight fades and the stars begin their twinkle, remember the instinctual feeling that we are all bound together by earth and spirit—past, present and future. Listen as the lagoon responds to the whispers of the world, cradling creatures with a symphony that swells with wild murmurs and shimmering secrets of the universe.

So begins a new light—a vibrant awakening of flitting fireflies leading a legion of lanterns cascading in a ceremonious procession across the water. With a single chime, there falls a hush—and in its place steps storytellers bearing benevolent gifts of light. These intriguing figures promise to paint the night with visual wonders, enticing you to join them on a marvelous journey.

Before your eyes, clusters of lantern light shift and shape into animal spirit forms—the Tiger, Turtle, Elephant and Owl. The storytellers call upon the Temple Lotus who materializes along with her 4 sisters, each bursting forth with dazzling fountains of water and light. These mystic hosts work in harmony to captivate your senses, conjuring stunning imagery of animals from across the world in a musical performance that can only be described as dreamlike. Spellbound, you are transported across Asian jungles and tropical oceans to African savannahs and North American mountains.

Your journey culminates in a triumphant blend of music, light, color and earthly elements. The Aurora Borealis, in its magical splendor, springs with unbridled joy as a menagerie of animals transcend above the cosmos, becoming glittering star constellations in the heavens. Immersed within a grand celestial finale, you are bestowed with an inspirational message of peace and oneness with nature.

and here's the second:

Everything the Light Touches

Eastern festival traditions merge with innovative technology to make Rivers of Light come alive. Featuring evocative, never-before-seen footage from Disneynature, grand theatrical imagery, virtuosic live performances, a soaring original score, and innovative special effects—this nighttime show employs a host of magical devices to create an experience unlike any other.

Fireflies in Flight
The flickering ornamentation of fireflies illustrates the migration of light—a central motif of the production. As the story unfolds, original video projections and choreographed laser animation combine to create the appearance of glowing fireflies, illuminating enchanting moments of the celebration like living pixie dust.

Spirited Storytelling
Mysteriously, the show’s “storytellers” never utter a word. Instead, they communicate volumes through fascinating forms of authentic Asian dance, music, song and shadow puppetry.

Light, Lanterns and Lotuses
Showstopping features include nearly 100 Asian lanterns, undulating hues of larger-than-life animal spirits and floating vessels awash in brilliant radiance. Powerful fountain jets erupting like embers from a fire and a 28-foot-tall Temple Lotus add to the visual splendor of these elements, each magically drifting into scenes—adding color, drama, shape and choreography.

A Living Landscape
Encircling the very heart of the Discovery River Lagoon and her 2 village amphitheaters is the thick embrace of a lush tree-scape. It is host and home to a unique variety of life, both in body and spirit form. This organic landscape is a central character itself, and an ever-changing canvas for the story’s unveiling.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/entertainment/animal-kingdom/rivers-of-light/

Notice how the first description says "Before your eyes, clusters of lantern light shift and shape into animal spirit forms, . . .," but that is not mentioned in the second description.  Why?  Because those shifting lanterns were going to be drones.  The drones don't work.  So, they're being cut from the show. There will be no shape shifting.  Now, in the second description, we are seeing that we will see movie clips projected on the water screens.  That didn't work well in the Jungle Book show, but they're going to do it again anyway.  And remember all those dancers that no one could see very well in the Jungle Book show?  Look how the second description mentions "Asian dance, music, song and shadow puppetry."  Do you see that mentioned anywhere in the first description?

This show was supposed to be new and unique.  The technology was supposed to be mind blowing.

Now, we're getting something hastily slapped together, because the show must go on.

It's a train wreck.

Will it open in November?

I think so.

Ready or not.
