Here is the story and the details. A 19-year-old man, Branden Bullerin, has been arrested and charged with third degree grand theft, forgery and scheme to fraud. Bullerin was selling counterfeit discounted tickets to Walt Disney World and Universal theme parks on Craigslist. Bullerin had been arrested 17 times before with two of those arrests for suspicion of selling fraudulent theme park tickets. Bullerin would have the victims meet him at the Orlando International Airport in the food court where he would show a copy of his driver’s license and social security card as proof of identity. He listed his name on the tickets as a cast member of Walt Disney World and passed the tickets off as his complimentary employee passes. When the victims tried to enter the theme park they were told they were counterfeit. Detectives noted grammatical errors on the tickets and that there was an expiration date of January 2018. They were also told by Walt Disney World that Bullerin had never been employed there. In order to catch Bullerin an undercover detective went on craigslist looking for tickets to Walt Disney World. Bullerin responded and requested to meet at Orlando International Airport once again in the food court. They met on January 26thand once the officer paid $400.00 for the tickets the arrest was made. The tickets were later confirmed to be counterfeit. Once arrested Bullerin named a partner Jimmy Messer. Bullerin called Messer and asked him to deliver tickets to the airport and cops picked him up on the way. They found 53 counterfeit tickets for Disney World and Universal with Messer. If people would work with legitimate firms and not always be trying to cheat the system these types of scams would not be profitable and would decrease considerably. They deserved to get caught for the crime itself but also stupidity. The airport is a busy place, but also a place with a lot of surveillance. Even meeting at there hotel or different places on Disney property would have been a smarter idea, not the same place everytime. He used his real name and showed his license and social, I get that this was to convince people that he was legit, but don't put your name on the ticket then. I would think Disney and Universal keep track of counterfeit tickets or schemes. Also try getting a fake ID, or make a fake Disney staff ID. Then the other guy having 53 tickets on him? This comes in the wake of two other firefighters being suspended that Butler supervises. Earlier this month both Glen Kiture and Christopher Huntley were caught reselling free Walt Disney World tickets. After the Pulse terror attack in June 2016, Disney gave each first responder in the jurisdiction of Pulse four tickets to Walt Disney World to enjoy with their families. The gesture was meant to show first responders how grateful Central Florida was for their bravery. Disney let them know that the tickets could not be sold for profit. According to investigators, firefighters Kiture and Huntley sold their tickets online. The families who purchased the tickets were told at the gate that their tickets had been flagged and were denied entry to the park. Investigators said that Butler only suspected an issue the day before a family filed a formal complaint and a report with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Instead of reporting the issue through the proper channels, Butler tried to resolve the problem himself. He used Huntley’s phone and called the family pretending to be a Disney employee. Investigators reported that Butler said, “I would like to find out your experience you had with Disney and if there was any problems with your tickets. If you would please try to contact Walt Disney World again and we will try to accommodate your again.” Butler’s suspension begins on July 22nd. On a personal note, please don’t be fooled by online ticket scammers. Websites that seem to be offering super low prices on Disney tickets are almost guaranteed to be scams. Unfortunately, there is no way to find out if a ticket you bought online is any good before your trip. I can’t imagine the heartache of showing up to the Magic Kingdom only to be denied entry.
