Yes and no....

The Fort is a FAMILY oriented facility and should be run and enforced as such.

Sure, your neighbors should have enough common sense and decency to know better than dropping F-Bombs for everyone around them to hear.  Or not to be viewing explicit movies or having music playing that has inappropriate language for kids to hear.

But if they are lacking that bit common sense, than it's up to Disney to stop by, pay them a visit, and tell them to straighten up and fly right, or vacate the premises.

In the past you could be neighborly and ask them politely to watch themselves, but now a days you would probably be cursed at, your site vandalized, or attacked.

There are plenty of campgrounds that are more X-Rated then G for these people to plop down in, but the Fort isn't one and their boorish behavior shouldn't have to be tolerated.

We have reported issues in the past, and when nothing got rectified, we were told that the Fort is a big place and security can't be everywhere.

Well maybe with the amount of $$$ they are raking in, they need to higher more security/rangers and have them patrolling with their SUV windows down so they can hear the midnight dance parties.

I think the general feeling that political correctness has gone to far or that their only making an "honest" statement has been confused with being vulgar. You could accomplish either of those without losing civility.

I agree that society in general has declined, but I don't agree with the statement that Disney shouldn't police what comes out of people's mouths. It's pretty simple, you're at Disney you should play by their rules. If you fail to do so, or decide you don't want to, you should be made to leave. Now if disney is just ok with this type of behavior, that's a whole other discussion. Disney should know their audience is children and families, and this type of language and behavior is not just distasteful, but will discourage return visits. (And return $$$)

While not language related, I can tell you that they do not enforce any sort of dress code at the water parks, which is really just another form of expression like language. When we were there in March we couldn't believe the number of bare butts in thongs we were subjected to. Lots of college kids wearing bathing suits that were embarrassing. Really nice for your young kids to see. Oh well, it lead to a good discussion about morals and self pride.

I certainly would have complained, because you can't assume that someone else will have called, and the more complaints they get the more management will realize there is an issue. Just because it's Disney doesn't exempt them from common decency.

The will more than likely just throw comp nights at you anyway, because that's how they seem to handle things rather than address the issue and risk a confrontation that ends up on youtube, like the guy with the meth lab comments a few years back.

I've found, it's how you express frustration that (sometimes) yields the best results.  Simply walking up to the front desk or calling the 800# is (simply put) lazy and typically results in small results.  However, if you/we actually take the time to put pen to paper and send a letter (registered or priority mail) to the corporate office, this sets your comments apart. Also, when I write, I remind them of my goal:  not to complain, but to keep Disney the magical experience we all love.  Their job is NOT an easy one.  Look what they have to work with.  So many people anymore, show no respect for others or private property.  The air of disregard and entitlement through out Disney, is both obvious and pungent. Complaining to the front desk, might get you a free night, but no real changes.  Taking the time to express both your passion/appreciation for Walt and his dream, as well as pass along your frustrations, in the form of a written letter might produce actual changes and true results.  No guarantees, but for those of us who have been in an upper managment position ask yourself... if you were sitting in that office and you were the one who had the ability to made some actual changes, what would make the greatest impact on you?  Hearing from your staff that guests are complaining (I mean, are they really complaining?  Are the complaints justified or is it just another adult with the "world owes me" attitude wanting a free night).  As I said, I think theirs is a hard job.  It's an uphill battle that requires both discipline and encouragement.  They have to babysit their staff and the public, more than ever before... I imagine it's exhausting.

I don't know... just how I see it ^_^

Dave you just reminded me, on two different occasions we saw castmembers stop a woman walking by and tell her she had to put on a shirt.  One woman was in a bikini top and the other was in a sports bra.  The castmembers one cast member was at a popcorn stand in MK and the other at a food place in Epcot.

I heard two rumors the other day and don't know if they are true

1. I hear people will reserve a campsite at the fort just to get access to magic bands,    Advance dinner reservations and fast passes.  Then they never show up for the reservation.  That's the rumor why you will see empty sites at prime times

Heck yes it's true.  There's a pinned thread with hundreds of pages of comments on that big unofficial Disney message board where those losers discuss how to book "throwaway" camp site reservations and abuse the Disney system.

BINGO!

This is what those of you who think the Fort should be some kind of oasis from the real world need to remember.  People suck these days.  And they have found the Fort. It's not just the Fort that isn't as nice as a result or society's decline. Name me a nice vacation spot where you aren't going to be surrounded by obnoxious people behaving badly.

The thing about the Fort is that with proper planning, you can still have a great time at your campsite.  Even though I don't need a premium site that's now what I try to book, and I stay away from the other site levels when I can. I go for the smaller premium loops with more space between the sites rather than trying to be in a prime location. There will still be occasional idiots, but not as many, and there will be more space between them and me.

This is why we like site 1318 so much. There is nobody on our door side for around 30 ft due to the canal and a transformer box.

I like 1325 and most of 1300 for that matter. Like1200 as well. I am not a fan of the idiots like most of you but our society has gotten so far out of hand it is sad. Its no wonder the rest of the world looks at us they way they do. At least us fiends get along. As long as that is happening then there is still hope for the other fort idiots.

OK, I have read this entire thread with some interest as my wife and I will be making our 1st trip to the Fort Sept 8-14. We have a 29' Class 'A' with a toad and 2 small dogs. We don't mind walking or riding our bikes, any suggestions for a site, I currently have standard but have no issue with upgrading to a Premium one at all. Will not use the kennel as the dogs are fine and we plan on coming back to the rig mid-day before returning for the evening.

We always camp on non holidays for the reasons stated and waited for school to be back in for this trip, this will be part of a 3 month trek from California thru the South and back. We also love to boondock out West for these same reasons, nothing like having your coffee while looking at the snow capped Eastern slope of the Sierra's and not another person in sight.

We are empty nesters and like the 1300 loop sites backing up to the canal. It is across from the pool and the afternoon pool parties can be loud but they end around dinner time. We like to watch the water birds feeding along the canal in the morning and evening (if we are at the site). 1300 is in the middle of the campground and an easy walk to the Meadows Trading post and campfire/sing along/movie. We have never not been able to get in the 1300 loop but if we couldn't I would say 1200 would be our backup loop. Both loops are premium site loops and the last time we were there they had more mature vegetation between the sites than some of the loops do. Someone whose been there more recently might be able to say whether that is still the case.

That sounds great but the information I have does not show 1200 or 1300 as a Pet loop. The info I have shows loops 400-900 as being Premium Pet loops, are there changes to this?

400 - 900 are the premium pet loops.  300 is the Preferred pet loop and all of the full hook up sites are pet loops.

At any given time, you can find pets in any loop, but I've also seen people denied loops because they have pets.  I think it depends on how crowded they are or how strict the particular cast member wants to be.

Sorry I missed the pets. As others have said you see pets in all loops. Like many things at the Fort the actual criteria depends upon the CM you get and their mood at the time. We've never stayed in the other loops so can't voice anything about them.

Do not let this thread freak you out.

Holiday weekends attract a special kind of craziness to the Fort that you will not even remotely experience from September 8-14. The weekend after Labor Day is probably one of the calmest weekends of the year at the Fort.  Kids are back in school.  The Labor Day crowd (which will undoubtedly have a high percentage of idiots) will be gone.  It will be calm.  In fact, I'll be it will bet nearly empty from Monday on that week.

Keep your full hook up site, and have a great trip!

It's not just one kind of group either, I have seen bad behaviour from Church Groups, Boy Scout Groups, and others.

This issue would go away if the Fort would just require everyone to obey the same rules and if there is a problem your group isn't allowed back.

This exactly.  We've been pretty lucky so far, but weekends, especially holiday weekends, have definitely gotten more rowdy over the years.

This is the reason I'm thinking premium spots from now on. I figure it's hard to pound 6 tents worth of stakes into an all concrete site......unless I'm missing something.

Also when bigs groups swoop in for the weekend, they're typically looking for the cheapest sites thy can find. Given the rates of premium sites on the weekends (and especially holidays!) unlikely you'd see something like this in a premium loop.  When we've seen it it's been either partial, full or occasionally (like this one) preferred.

If I end up next to something like this I'm not calling.  I'm camping out at the front desk until someone from security shows up and escorts me back to my site.

We camp a few times a year at a local family campground we like a lot.  They have a LOT of rules - and some of them seem silly - but they enforce them across the boards, no matter what.  They will absolutely make you pack up and leave if you're causing a disturbance, and if it's bad enough you'll be banned.  If the Fort banned groups like this, they'd have no problem whatsoever getting someone else to fill that site. I actually think it's less about the $$ (remember, this typically happens over just a couple/few of the cheaper sites) and more about what I've heard that Disney generally instructs it's CMs to be nonconfrontational with Guests.  All well and good... until a few Guests are impacting a whole lot of others.

Agreed!  We typically go in October and November and with the exception of Halloween (mostly if it's on the weekend) and the few days over Thanksgiving weekend, the Fort is delightfully calm and quiet.  It gets busier on the weekends in terms of numbers of people, but nothing like the hoopla of a holiday weekend.

We always stay in a cabin and have never had issues with other guests until last New Year's. We had checked in on Dec 21 and had a really quiet holiday until a large family of inconsiderate partiers checked in for NY's weekend. My husband wanted to confront them at one point, but since they were so incredibly obnoxious I was terrified that they'd pull out a gun or something (sorry, I'm Canadian, that's where my mind wonders when in the US!). They blasted loud obnoxious music from their pickup all night. Their teenage kid always looked so embarrassed that I felt bad for the poor kid.

But others have commented on the decline in common courtesy in society as a whole and I would agree. Last year we saw a little girl in the park close to the marina eating an ice cream bar in the park. Naturally she dropped it, making a huge mess, but what really angered me was that dad barely looked up from his phone and shrugged his shoulders. In the end I was the one to go get a cast member and let them know about the mess. In my opinion common courtesy would be having your child eat at the picnic table, not in the park play area.

It does seem like there is a rise in inconsiderate people out there.

But, we were at Adventure Island this past Saturday, and sitting in a "beach" area. Some kids started running thru the set up chairs and close to us.  Within a couple of minutes the father came over chewed out the kids for running next to us and apologized for their behavior.  After that he kept a close eye on them and got on them for throwing sand at each other and other things young boys would do.

And Thursday night we had a boy hold open the door for us at Wilderness Lodge, even though we were quite a ways behind the rest of his group.

Thanking the parties that show manners is the only way to keep civility going.

That, and the obnoxious ones will eventually wipe each other out... The Darwin Theory.

I've also noticed that when you (generalized 'you') discipline your children in a public setting, other parents tend to follow suit. It's almost like some parents are so afraid of being tagged a "helicopter" parent that they let their kids run wild, but then when they see that other parents are chewing their kids out they're less shy to do the same.

I also agree 100% about thanking the parties who show manners. Last year I encountered such a polite young girl (probably 8/9) at a concession stand and I wanted to tell her parents how polite she was, but they were too far from me.

I've brought this up before, but i think it bears repeating... I think they should reduce the number of people on a reservation from 10 down to say 6 or 7, and maybe give a pass to people with big families if they can prove the additional kids live with them or something (not sure how they'd manage this, but seems like they could do something about it), or maybe only a max of four adults per site? I would also allow only up to 2 linked reservations and make sure that the names on the reservations aren't also party to other reservations. So, if Joe Jerk is named on reservation 1 for a particular site, he cannot also be named on reservation 2 for a separate site for the same stay. I think it's a bit asinine that an entire group can take over an complete loop. Last stay we witnessed two or three groups in the 1500 that clearly had well over the number of people allowed on a site... 5 tents on one site and had set up practically a full kitchen too (all for a four night stay I might add).

You know... they have a group camp site for a reason...

On our last trip, we had a little boy from one of the said huge campsites, probably aged 6 or 7 continually come around to our campsite. Walking very close to our tent in the morning through our site (and our tent was on the pad, so no excuse), even to the point of sitting down at our picnic table when it was dinner time. Our girls are similarly aged and played with the boy too, so maybe that's why he was so interested in hanging around our site, but we told him when it was time to sit down to eat he needed to go back home. Were the parents interested at all in where their son was? Not apparently. He did it multiple multiple times, never a visit from the parents to apologise. Grrr.

We are not unfriendly people, but we definitely enjoy our private family time while on vacation.
