Disney upset about property assessments, files suit.

In the Orando Sentinel today, there was an article about several lawsuits filed by Disney, Sea World and Universal about property assessments and taxes.  Here is the story.

I deal with the tax assessor every year.  And I can tell you from personal experience that they will raise your property taxes as much as they can get away with.   One example I can give is a retired gentleman that works for me part time.  He lives on 1 acre in the middle of no where in a 20+ year old doublewide trailer. The tax assessor raised his taxes every year. he asked me about his new assessment, because he thought it was to high.  It took me less than 5 minutes on the computer to find out thy haven't even been to his property for years.   A few days later we went to the assessors office and filed a complaint and requested a reassessment with inspection. Less than a week later he got his revised tax bill. It was almost half of what it was.

If it was just Disney or another big land owner sueing I'd think they were trying to be greedy, but from the article it sounds like multiple big land owners in the area are all having the same problem. Or at least the big corporations that a racking in money. Seems fishy. I don't think they should get a tax break really but where would Orange county would have nothing if (in theory because it would never happen) they all closed up and left. If they keep raising taxes and the parks keep raising rates more people will start spending less in other parts of the county or coming at all which in turn would only hurt the county more. Just the way I see it.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie.

Seminole Tribe has a hotel/casino in  the Tampa area.

Since they are a sovereign nation they pay no taxes to the county and maybe the state.  This includes the various hotel taxes you see on your normal bill.

But, they are charging customers the same 12% that the other government agencies collect and disburse, and are keeping it all to themselves. They are not obligated to collect those fees, so it's just a way for them to get extra $$$.

They are not asking for a tax break. They are saying the county has over valued their property and in turn charging them more taxes based on that over valued rate.

New event planned for Liberty Square....the Orange County Tea Party dessert party. Visitors get to riot about Disney's overtaxation and throw simulated tea crates into the water. $99 per person

I assume that will be plus tax of course?
