  1. Cabins, tiny homes, wilderness trailers, whatever you want to call them have been at the Fort for a long time...  The DVC cabins that Disney is putting in are basically the same thing that is there now.   I think this was a way for Disney to pay for replacements on someone else's nickel.  Plus, they have an opportunity to market to a different demographic.  On how successful they will be, is anyone's guess.  The cabins will still be available to the cash paying public as well as now being inside the "DVC bubble".

The inside layout has changed a bit, but the number of beds still turn out to be the same. The outside aesthetics look different, however, when you boil it all down, they are still the same thing in terms of the product being offered.  I do think this new design looks somewhere between a park model trailer and a shipping container, but times change, and we all know how Disney's designers have gone off the "old school reservation" here lately in terms of theming...

I personally think this is a precursor to bringing back the Reflections property, and rolling it all into one...

  2. Oh, this will definitely will not be going away...  All the paperwork has been filed with Orange County.  If you have nothing better to do for the next five days, you can read through all the documentation that is out there at present:

2 of the cabins have already been removed from the 2200 loop...  When we were there back the first week of December, I was chatting with the lady in the check-in lane about these 2 cabins, and she told me (take it with a grain of salt) they were doing a "dry run" on see how "things would work out" in terms of getting the old cabins out.  So it shouldn't be long before they start the process of switching out what's there now...

In terms of limiting these to only DVC members, that will not be the case.  You will still be able to reserve on a cash basis just as you can now reserve at any of the other DVC resorts on property.  Yes, the price may change, just as EVERYTHING at Disney does...  As a DVC member myself (who still prefers staying in my MH at the Fort), I've been reading (and laughing out loud) on some of the other Disney related boards that many of the current DVC members are not really looking to jump ship over to the "dark side" of Fort Wilderness...  They are stating the lack of amenities, the current pool situation, the layout inside the new cabins, the bus service to get around, the lack of restaurants, not having a washer/dryer included in the units, and remoteness from the parks that contribute to their "non-desire" to purchase here.

I feel this move from Disney was a way for "someone else" to foot the bill for the replacement of the current cabins.  These things have been there a long time, and are most likely needing replacement.  I feel the target audience for this new "arm of DVC" will be to the folks who already know what the "Fort vibe" is all about.  I really don't think there will be many folks burning up the phone lines at DVC to add on points for the cabins.

Ended up with long ramps.com I think it was.   Over bought but they are rock solid.   I had the cart lifted so the 11ft foldable ramps fit underneath the cart for travel.   We just did it at the site.

That's what we do...unload at the site... When I bought the cart, I made sure it was lifted so it wouldn't bottom out as it made the transition from the ground and into the bed of the truck.  Also, made sure I purchased one piece ramps that didn't "hinge" in the middle.  I too store them underneath the cart in the bed of the truck when hauling.  I place them underneath the MH when we are at the site.

  4. We are some of the Fort refugees… We were put up at Port Orleans Riverside for the night… they are projecting to reopen later this afternoon… Our checkout at POR has been extended to 4:00…

What was different about this evac was that they were allowing us to leave our stuff at the campground if we wanted, we just couldn’t stay there… I contemplated leaving the MH, but decided against it.  We were set up in the 1100 loop where there are a lot of tall skinny pine trees, and didn’t want to chance it. I did leave the golf cart there though…

  5. Was at the Fort last week, and was walking from the cart parking area at Pioneer Hall over to the horse barn and noticed the "old" camper display area looked to be "cleaner" than usual.  For all the "old Fort timers" you will remember this area back in the day when either Fleetwood or Coachmen would park a "display" trailer in the area so folks could look inside a real travel trailer, to see how camping folk vacationed. They would remove the door and replace it with plexiglass so you could see inside the unit parked there...

In past visits, this area had become overgrown and neglected, this time, at least to me, looked as if things had been cleaned and tidied up a bit, almost as if they were going to use this as something new.  What do y'all think?  I apologize for the last pic... the sun was in a bad angle...

  6. Was fooling around on YouTube and found a continuation video from this guy... and he just dropped a WHOPPER!  He was walking around his RV speaking about the "tenters" who were on either side of him and that when you camp at the Fort, you can have tents and million $ RV's parked next to each other... Ok, that is true statement...

But then he goes on to say, and I quote "...every rate is different depending on what you're driving, so you're not paying for the site, you're paying for the vehicle that you're bringing into Disney's Fort Wilderness..."  Unbelievable!

The weather must really hate me!  I've been miserably cold the entire time we've been here.  Wishing I'd brought my heavy coat.  Yesterday I wore thermals, a turtleneck sweater, a sherpa-lined hooded sweatshirt, and still froze.  I just hope you're enjoying this, Gretchen!

My aunt and uncle lived in Lakeland before they passed away.  They never admitted to having cold weather down here.  They just called us whenever we had snow and laughed and told us how warm their weather was!

If you all need a good laugh, my 72 year old husband just got carded at the trading post when he tried to buy a bottle of wine!

Gwen they didn't card him because of his age, they probably wanted to do a credit check so you could complete the mortgage papers on what that wine was gonna cost!
