  1. Thanks for the link, that should come in useful.  I figured the traffic would be good between 12-04, but then I have to be on the road between midnight and 0400.  The original plan would have put us in ATL around 1100-0100 on a Saturday.  That seems like a roll of the dice.  Either way, if getting stuck in ATL for a little while is the worst part of the trip, I'll be happy.

  2. I know, I know, driving through Atlanta has been covered several times, but with the latest twist (collapsed bridge on one of the interstates) I thought I would ask again.  We are headed to the Fort in a couple of weeks from KY and will be going through ATL.  The plan now is to leave in the evening on Friday and drive though Atlanta, then resting.  The plan would but us through ATL between midnight and 0400 AM depending on when we are able to leave.  I'm sure that traffic will be easier at that time, with the trade off being the time of day.  Has anyone been through ATL during the day in the last month or so?  Is it really as bad as I'm imagining, or could you really tell the difference?

  3. We stay at a place called "Smoky Bear" campground, just outside of Gatlinburg. It's close enough to all the tourist traps, but far enough out that you still get the feel of the smokies.  On the plus side for your situation,  you can stay on I-40 and go around g-burg/PF.  The campground is actually in a little town called Cosby.  Might not make it any less out of the way, but might not have to fight as much traffic.

  4. Can't speak for the roads, we went through there in May, but the route was not what we hoped.  Tons of traffic lights, and traffic.  Wound up taking a lot longer than anticipated, and next year have already decided to roll the dice in Atlanta. It was worth a shot though....  Probably a good option if you're starting south of Nashville, so you don't have to back track.

  5. There is another campground, called Cave Country RV Campground, on that same exit.  It's closer to interstate, all pull through, and very level.  If I was just looking for a place to pull in for the night in this area, that's where I would go.  The only draw back to cave country is the lack of playground, pool, swing set, etc.  There is just not much there as far as entertainment goes.

Congrats on the new trailer, Coachman is owned by Forest River so look into joining FROG, Forest River Owners Group, they have very good rallies all around the country, also look into the Coachman Owners group as well, one of the oldest groups out there ( I believe ) and very active also. Good luck and enjoy!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up!  Thanks to everyone else!

  7. Well, the slide out on wheels has done us well over the last few years but the time has come to upgrade. We sold our Jayco 154, and will be picking up our Coachmen 192rbs this weekend. Hopefully the work schedules will allow us to take it out a few times before it's shuttered for the winter. Really looking forward to our next trip to the fort in our new TT.

  8. Interesting. I remember our briefing where the CM told us, "there is a fire extinguisher, but, you're wearing life jackets, surrounded by water, and its not your boat, sooo...."  I'm assuming that is not the standard for what to do in case of a fire any more. At any rate my son loved the sea racers in May. Even though we took a huge wave over the bow that drenched us. I really hope they don't get rid of them.

Does anyone here participate in fighting the forces of evil that are trying to take over the Magic Kingdom?  I've been playing for a few years but living in Kentucky and not getting to travel down all that often its hard for me to collect the special event cards.

Currently I have 58 of the 70 cards and have played through all of the game modes (easy, medium, and hard).  Now that I have a small child it will be much more difficult to participate as he's not going to want to follow the story lines.

We're from KY as well! Anyway our son is 7 and I think he would really enjoy this.  We are definitely going to try it out next trip

  10. This is the kind of stuff that bothers me about Disney. Any theme park can leave a guest sitting for 1.5 hrs and say, "we're calling it in".  Disney on the other hand is supposed to be the place where magic happens, right?  I've seen it at times, I'm sure we all have. It seems the last couple times we've been there, that there is a growing mentality that we can do whatever we want, the people will still come, and still pay.

  11. An hour and a half is crazy!  I thought all the busses could accommodate scooters.  I wonder if the the little trip computer thing on the dash board of the bus has anything to do with the times on screen?  I'm sure the top dogs in disney transportation really keep a close eye on how efficient the busses are running.

So they followed Epcots and HS placement of the Fort bus stop, about as far away from the entrace as you can be.  Guess they figure campers are there to enjoy the outdoors and don't mind walking an extra mile to catch a bus.

Maybe. The stop at HS was 4A. Not really very far away. The catch is that 4A has no shelter. It's just a queue line on concrete. So, if it's raining you get wet, sunny you get burned, etc., etc, you get the picture. The real kicker is that the FW stop at the springs is right by the path to the shops, just on the other side of the loop the busses drive on, so you can't cross. You have to walk all the way down, then back.
