Lou, I think you have hit the nail (spike) on the head.  I can't be there today at 1400 ish to grab more, but I can tomorrow.   I'd love to get you as much wood as you think might be needed for a give away.  These chunks would slice nicely into slabs to display the spike on.  I left my table saw at home though.  Would you be interested in picking up a stash of it from my campsite and facilitating the slicing?  I am keeping the long ones for now (if I don't figure out something cool, I can always slice them at home and deliver them to the deliverer down here) but all the rest are short pieces and would fit easily in the trunk of a car.

    Well, I'm off to AK!

As outlined in TCD's thread about the construction permits, work is continuing on the BBQ area.  We got in today and I picked up my Kenny cart and took a quick tour.  Found they were replacing roofs on some backstage buildings directly behind the pavilion between there and the bathroom.

There is a new roof going on the old River Country Ticket booth too.  They were also replacing many of the rotted timbers and supports.  When I was there they were loading up the old wood onto a truck.  I asked what they were doing with it all and they said the were going to throw it away.  Soooo......  I have a bunch of it.  For anyone else who wants some, the guy told me they have to be cleaned up and out of there every day at 1430.  And they will be replacing more of the rotted timbers.  They have not touched the bird cage building yet.

I really have no idea what I'm going to do with the wood.  I have a 4x4 post that is about 7 feet long, and a 2x6 beam that is roughly the same length.  Then a bunch of butt ends.  I'm going to be here until Monday, if anyone wants some of the smaller pieces I'd gladly pass them along.  I'm going to make something with the bigger ones at home.  Don't know what yet.

I took some photos of the work and the wood I got.  Now I have to figure out how to post them.

I've read through this whole thread and have a few thoughts.  Number one, is this thread is EXACTLY why I like this place.  Great details, great discussion, great people bringing out the details.

Number two, yes this will be a wonderful new resort.  If you are staying there, which I won't be able to afford.  So yes the pictures are great, and it will have cool bars and pools and restaurants, all of which we will not be able to enjoy.

Number three, then they put this wonderful new resort that we can look at but not touch, right smack in the middle of our living room.  WTH?  Those buildings are going to tower over any ambiance the settlement had.  It's going to be wrecked and we'll never get it back.   I'm just making reservations for April, and I can't believe how much the prices went up.  We are revising our stay from seven days down to four because it is so expensive now.

Move the whole shebang 400 yards west and I'm on board with seeing the tops of these towering buildings from a distance, but we won't have to live with that crappy parking lot and it's car alarms going off throughout the night.

An electric chair for your mom, I don't think that's legal? I suggest a retirement development first.
68 years old, that's only a few years older than me. I better keep a close watch on what my kids ask me to do.

We totally agree. We have pulled ours out well over the "allowed" days missed to go to Disney.
I make sure I am close with the prinicpal, nurse and their teachers and let the all know that I find life experience an important part of a child's education (I believe these words came right out of the student handbook) but that I don't want them to fall behind at school. So we get homework done ahead or bring it with and I let all involved that I have consulted the academic calendar before deciding when to take them out so they don't miss any major testing or test prep.
It has worked wonderfully for us for 5 years.
We have gone to Disney during peak and off peak times and have seen the park crazy busy and wide open.
The thing about Jersey week is that the park is full of the same demographic.
MY DEMOGRAPHIC-Families with school age children.
The waits are longer for what I want to do with my kids because everyone else at Disney is wanting to do what I want to do.
I should also mention that I am a midwesterner and my first Jersey week was a bit of culture shock for me. Every queue I waited in, every bus I rode (who am I kidding I didn't ride the bus!!!), on the monorail, in the restaurant lobbies, etc I felt like I was in New Jersey. Once I got used to the Jersey accents and "way of doing things" it was time to go home.
So my recommendation if you want to take advantage of your kids days of school, split your time between a few days during Jersey week then stay longer-you know when everyone else goes home so you can have the park to yourselves again.

Fugarwe(MN John(Juanito)) reacted to rdancemom... Pam in Florida resident tickets without the Florida resident?
She might call AAA south to ask about an advance purchase but pretty sure she'd need to be there with a FL id in order to verify/activate the tickets at the gate.
It's unlikely you would be able to buy tickets and then get a refund but you might possibly be able to buy them one or two day passes for only the days you need and then use those to upgrade to a more expensive FL resident pass. Not sure, but it's an avenue to explore I suppose. If you call GS remember to document any answers by noting the time/date/CM b/c this sounds like a question you're likely to get multiple replies on. If it didn't work, you'd be no worse off as you could still upgrade the kids' passes for the additional days you needed without the FL discount...

Well golf carts help one get off their feet....so it's a pretty natural progression to then talk about chicken feet. Obviously.

Supposedly duck and chicken feet are great for stocks because of all the collagen. Haven't tried that out for myself yet.
The dogs love to crunch them up frozen - we call them "quackers."

I know from the title you were expecting a trip report tutorial.
But you won't get one from me, cause I'm computer illiterate.
But I can tell a good story, and in a past life I was a press photographer.
Reading Dave and TCDs excellent reports makes me wish there were more.
But I bet a lot of people are like me and don't really know how to make it look good. And not just posting pictures, but the cadence and structure of it.
So would someone who is good at it be willing to talk to me like I'm 4 and put it all down? Perhaps the instructions could be pinned at the top of this so it wouldn't get lost.
Oh, think of the ride reports that will be born!

They could have said it but they didn't. So even if you can't get the stupid cinnamon rolls at the bakery, sooooo what? Walk your butt over to Gaston's Tavern and pick up a damn roll. Does it matter where you get them?
The bottom line, less the roll controversy, is that the bakery will reopen as the Main Street Bakery and not Starbucks, according to that statement.,

I choose aluminum canned beer vs glass when possible. I can get payed recycling the cans, plus a workout crushing them.
When picking up litter from the roadways, I always recycle the aluminum.
