  1. I think it is things like that "foot" that made it easy for the native americans and earlier people of the world to look at things like mountains and describe them as sleeping giants. And i agree all it needs is a sandle and some green paint and it would be good to go. Your quite welcome. Glad to have you along. Silvia was getting quite the kick out of seeing a lot of the names from the song in that movie. When we get to Monument Valley you will see how much was easily inspired from there in Cars. It is definitely something I feel everyone should do at least once.
  2. It is amazing how bigthe world seems out there with nothin to break the horizon up. Absolutely! Of all the places on this trip, it remains one of my favorites. Thanks Todd. I am sure Silvia would appreciate that. :rofl3: Enjoy the scenery! There really is nothing out there until you hit a city or town. Then you have a couple of miles of life before you are alone again. This does make the nightime views amazing. Believe me Seals, the state park is almost enough for a trip to Roswell. My bumper sticker from there takes it the rest of the way. I will post a pic later. If you ever get t
  3. Thanks dblr. I will say that when planning this trip it was with the knowledge that it was just Silvia and myself. When we travel with others we do adjust accordingly. Most of the time.
  4. I just looked at the original on my computer and enlarged that area. Not a palm tree. Looks like some other kind of tree but with he wind we had blowing pretty steady it was lifting all of the foliage to look like one. Could catch though I hadn't even noticed the tree before.
  5. Sorry folks. In checking a map we got off of Interstate 10 while still in New Mexico. We headed up US 70 because we were headed to the Painted Dessert. Our original plan was to get to that this day but the best laid plans often go astray. Due to the wildfires in Arizona we had to detour. We ended up back in New Mexico on some back roads with no cell reception what so ever. Having been out in the west before I expected no cell reception so I had an atlas with us. As the detour was not marked in anyway this was a good thing. After routing around the fire and back into Arizona we realized we had
  6. I think it was Dave. They do have some other things going on but in terms of tourism the UFO stuff is what everyone wants.
  7. We traveled down US 390 to US 70 which took us down towards White Sands. We ran into the Billy The Kid National Scenic Byway Visitors Center. There is a great tile mural that wraps around the building. We took a couple of select pictures. After leaving there and switching to US70 we came around a corner to see a strange site in the distance. As we got closer we realized it was a giant pistachio. This was McGinn's Pistachio farm. Silvia said they were great pistachios. We may be ordering some more from them soon. Right after McGinn's we saw this on the side of the road. If anyone sees
  8. Continuing on to the lake we will be camping next too. The water is so clear you can see the bottom in this one f you look closely. The water is a constant 68 degrees if I remember the temp correctly. It fell so nice and since it is continuosly fed from underground it stays nice and clean. We didnt get to go in that night as we needed to make dinner and get setup, but the next morning we got up around 5 and went swimming before packing up to head out. I think this place is a bigger reason for going to Roswell for me than the museum. Silvia loved it as well. The view from out campsite. La
  9. Heading east from Roswell just a few miles out of town is the Bottomless Lake State Park. I camped here on my last visit and knew it was one of the places I had to take Silvia too. The state park is a collection of "bottomless" lakes formed by sinkholes that tapped an underground spring. The biggest lake was supposed found to be bottomless when a bunch of cowboys tied their saddles together and could not reach the bottom. One of the lakes there is setup as a daytime park and swimming area and on the other side a campground. If you are staying at the campground you have full access to swimmin
  10. Okay continuing on. We last left off with driving towards Roswell. Thankfully we made it to a gas station and continued on to Roswell. Do you think we are there yet? Inside the "Museum" Oooooh Photo Op! Even the streetlights and the surrounding area gets in on the UFO business. Here's the outside of the museum. This was my second trip to Roswell and the museum. It is a fun stop. They have a lot of redacted documents and scraps of "unknown materials" that are purported to come from the 47 Roswell Crash or other UFO phenomena from around the world. Don't expect to see a room with
  11. Food wasn't an issue as we had a cooler with lunch meats and other stuff. Gas on the other hand came real close. The estimated miles left on the car was at I think 11 miles left when we found a gas station that was still open. Welcome aboard! We laugh everytime the picture of that mobile chapel comes up on teh computer screen. We will see how many I post. I have close to 900 already online. Most of the ones I didn't load are doubles of stuff or so similar that its hard to tel them apart. We bought a new tent for this trip that was only a 2 pole setup so it would take up less room in the car
  12. Thanks Bob! Especially on the first day of our trip we do a long drive. I think it has to do with me wanting to get out of range of being called back if there is an emergency. Thanks! It was a great time and Silvia is always asking when we can go again. Hi camping buddy!!! Silvia could have spent much more time at Hershey but we had so much to cover on this trip that we had to get moving. Welcome aboard! I am glad you are enjoying it. Doh! I wish I could claim i was typing on my phone and auto correct got me. But I was on my regular computer. Glad you are aboard and clearly paying atten
  13. I believe that one was a Pilot and I have had good luck with those in the past but this one was not quite the same level. It was a necessity stop though so we did use the restrooms and grab some munchies though.
  14. Welcome aboard photogal. We have a lot more pictures to go. When we made the trip we ended up with 3500 pictures. We cut that down to just over 800 to print for albums and I am cutting just a little bit more so far for this report. If you or anyone else sees something they want to see more pics of speak up and I will see what I have.
  15. Day 3. We headed out from Alma pretty early as we really wanted to make it to Roswell before the UFO museum closed for the day. Back onto I40 we went zipping right into Oklahoma. Last time I did this trip with a buddy of mine were detoured off of I40 because a barge had hit a bridge. We saw a memorial for that in our travels. We also had chance to hop onto Rt. 66 for a little bit and stopped at the Oklahoma Rt. 66 museum but they weren't open yet. We continued on through to Texas where we switched roads in Amarillo at the signs for the 72 ounce steak (nope didn't get one) and headed across co
  16. Day 2. We stopped at the gas station near the highway for fuel and so Silvia could get a Coffee. And then hopped on the road. It was about 7 am. We headed down I40 passing through Nashville and Memphis and then Crossing the Mississippi River into Arkansas. Nashville Memphis Crossing the Mississippi And cue the flat land. Silvia had never been off the east coast besides flying to a destination so the changes in the land were a source of constant amazement for her. I also found the differences striking and beautiful. We made it to Alma around 5 that evening and took a ride through the
  17. A lot of people I know would love to take off from work for three weeks and go see the country. I think most of them are on this board. :wave1: I have been lucky enough to be able to do it twice now. The most recent was last summer, I have a lot of pictures from that trip so I decided I would share some of them here. I wont be doing a lot of writing in this one so even Bob should enjoy it. We left on July 1st at 3 in the morning. We had a reservation for the night in Crossville, TN and that was a lot of miles before we were stopping. Our journey took us from CT, through NY and into PA where w
  18. I was fortunate enough last summer to go to Disneyland in just this way. The country in between is awesome. I am even more fortunate in that this was the second time I have been able to do this. It was just as awe inspiring the second time. I hope for many more. Maybe I will do a mostly pic trip report. We hit National Parks and Monuments, Disneyland, and other things like giant Pistachios.
  19. Haven't seen them before but they remind me of a bracelet. Kind of like an id bracelet minus the chain? not sure if that is completely wrong though.
  20. She heard me get excited and wanted to know what was going on. I can't believe how lucky i have been too find a group like this. The Fiends are such a wonderful group. I am beyond grateful for this group. Oh and Silvia says Hi. :10220: She hopes you are well.
  21. We had the chance to go to Disneyland last summer for the first time and I have to agree it was a lot of fun. We had a bit more in the way of lines but the new Little Mermaid ride had just opened, The Soundsational Parade (best parade ever in my opinion) had just started running and the World of Color show(One of the best shows we have seen aslso) was fairly new. This really drove up the crowds and the locals passes were good too at the time. For anyone who hasn't gone yet it is a real treat. It does kind of mess with your head because rides are not "in the right places" so to speak but you c
