    That rumor is true Grumpy!

There is too much sod, there are a lot less trees, but it’s 1000% better than the eyesore that was here for the past 2 1/2 years. As far as I could see, there are no speakers anymore- so no fireworks music unless they set up portable speakers.

For me, we've actually lost some interest in Disney and the Fort. The uptick in prices, the fact that we can no longer buy an annual pass at present, and the pandemic, has put a damper on our enthusiasm for things Disney. (Especially since we just traveled cross country for three weeks, for less than a week at the Fort)

As much as we like Disney we were getting a bit annoyed on having to book almost everything well before we got there as by the time we got there things or just what we wanted to do could change We would prefer the old paper fast passes even if we had to hustle early to try to get what we wanted then add on as we could. I am even at the point where selling our DVC would not bother me at all.

After just getting home yesterday from WDW I will say I still love the Fort is it over priced, probably but it's a great place. Now for the parks with how crowded they have become they are not really that enjoyable anymore. I mean who in there right mind waits over 2 hours for the Jungle Cruise. After you use your 3 fast passes that's pretty much it for riding stuff. Other than EMH but even that only being 2 hours at  night is not great. We still have one more trip planned due to having AP`s. But after that I think we may be done with WDW until they can get there crowds under control. As far as the parking fee I don't see it really  affecting me, but I am tired of seeing the rates increase with little improvement to things. And the parking fee just feels like greed to me, making me less likely to book future trips.

I am planning a trip to assess the damage Irma did to the 3000 loop.  Beer lines are already scheduled for replacement, so mainly I will be focusing on the massage parlor.  I can't hook up the Outback, however, until I hit at least 650 likes.  So it's all up to you!

I believe that word of mouth is the best form of advertising.
I rented two Kenny carts over this past Memorial Day weekend.
Kenny has had a hard time keeping staff, so he was at the designated pick up and drop off location.  He was on time.  The carts were a little worn, but operated perfectly.
I still hate having to drive off property to get the carts and bring them back, but I saved about $300 over what renting from Disney would have cost.
    I give him a 10 out of 10.

It was a two street. Disney CMs, no matter how high up, love to make what are called "Magical Moments", and as Dave can now verify, the CMs involved enjoyed making it happen. And unbeknownst to him, the GM and the CMs involved, got to see his reaction after receiving the sign. It was a nice moment for everyone involved.

dieseldave reacted to DaveInTN in Silver Creek Falls (Or A "Sign" Of Things To Come)
It has been written on other threads that the theming of Wilderness Lodge is changing somewhat with the upcoming DVC additions. One of those changes is that Silver Creek Falls, the main water feature at the resort, will be renamed Copper Creek Falls. That change made my family sad, as we have a history with Silver Creek Falls, as I'll explain below.
You see, both my wife and I are from a small town in western New York called Silver Creek. And both of my parents grew up there too. So imagine our surprise when we made our first ever trip to Disney with our kids in 2001, during which we stayed at the WL, and stumbled upon this sign.

    Those 3 girls are 21, 19 and 17 now.
Six years later we had begun RVing and camped at the Fort with my parents. We took the boat over to the Fort to show my parents the sign, and continued what has become a tradition to get family pictures in front of the sign on every trip to Disney.

Fast forward....most recently, INC and I got a picture in front of the sign while on a date. We also stayed at the Lodge before our cruise on the Wonder this year.

And on our trip to the Fort a few weeks ago, I got one last picture in front of the sign of my parents, who spent part of the week with us. My Dad turns 80 next month.

I figured that might be the end of the story, as the retheming of the Lodge is proceeding at a rapid pace and will be completed before we return to WDW.
But that's not the end of the story.
Wondering what would become of the sign, I contacted the GM of the Wilderness Lodge to tell her about my family's history with the sign and our love of both the Lodge and the Fort. We traded some emails, and she assured me that she would try to find out what would be done with the sign as construction continues. I last heard from her a few weeks ago, and had not received an update since.
    Until today.
A large box arrived at our home today. So I opened it.

    Mabel is curious too.

Can you believe it? I was blown away. Also included in the package was a beautiful print of Silver Creek Falls, a WL magnet, and a very nice note.
I've heard of pixie dust but this is something else.
Do you now understand why I hate Disney so much? [emoji1]

I started making a sign today. The sign will be 2 layers so the solid back piece can be painted a lighter color to make the darker brown front pop. Also made a custom pole to hang it on. I just have to finish welding it up and get to painting.

dieseldave reacted to Tri-Circle-D in Let's Talk Turkey: TCD's 2016 Thanksgiving at the Fort Trip Report
Time flew for the TCD gang since Thanksgiving.
Christmas and New Year's Eve have come and gone, and here we are in a brand new year!
    Wow.
A lot of times, we've managed to squeeze an overnight trip in over the Christmas break.  Sometimes we even make it to the Fort.
    Not this year.
We were very busy doing other stuff.
My baby sister (age 44) got married in St. Pete the week before Christmas, and we hosted a big party at our house for all the out of town guests the night before.  That ended up taking a lot of time.  But it was great.  It's been a long time since we have had all of my siblings and nieces and nephews together, and it was great!
But getting ready for that party pretty much took up all of our time from Thanksgiving up until the party- there were long to do lists every weekend.  It was great when it was done, and then we had to shift gears and get ready for Christmas- we were having family over for Christmas Eve, and there were still wedding guests in town, which pushed our guest list to over 60 folks!
We had things under control by end of the week before Christmas, so with a hall pass from Mrs. TCD, the girls and I decided to head over to the MK for Christmas Eve Eve- December 23.  Just a quick day trip to see the Christmas entertainment which was now being performed with regular admission- the Christmas parade and the new castle show.  It's been a few years now since I upgraded our passes from seasonal passes to full passes, and we needed to take advantage of the fact that our passes were not blocked out for Christmas.
The weather in central Florida was crazy in December- we had almost no rain, and it was hot and muggy most days.  I never got to wear a single one of my Christmas sweaters this year.
December 23 was no different.  It was sunny and in the upper 70's as we headed over.
The plan for today was to arrive in time to watch the 3:30 Christmas parade on Main Street, and then hang around to see some of the night-time stuff before bugging out.
It was sunny and 80 degrees as we entered the Magic Kingdom:

It was just a bit past 2 when we arrived, but all of the spots on the curb on the shady side of Main Street were already claimed.  For the 3:30 parade.  Savages!
There was plenty of space on the sunny side, and we knew the shade would be along soon enough on this short winter day, so we selected a spot across from the clock.  Here we are:

Don't miss the girl in the purple leggings.
    Wow.
This was a good spot- we could look down Main Street and see the Christmas tree:

Or up the street and see the castle:

Hey- did you notice that the flagpole is peeking out from behind the Christmas tree?  They used to move the flagpole to the side of the street for the Christmas tree- but now they don't:

You might wonder if this was a busy day.  Well, look over there- they have a temporary hot dog stand set up.  That's a new one for me:

    The menu and prices:

    Yup- we are in Disney!
I never mind waiting for a parade on Main Street.  The people watching is always good.  And here are some people to watch.  Check out the lady in the blue hair:

We need to take a closer look at that tattoo on her ankle:

    Who is that?
This guy on the scooter is with the girl with the blue hair:

    Check out that guy's scooter!:

Aw, look- the girl with the blue hair is getting her Christmas card photo:

It's nice that everyone feels welcome at WDW.
A bonus to sitting on Main Street for the Christmas parade is that we get to see the Kringle Krew.  And here they are:

When they first show up, the elves look for a guest along the curb to guard their ball:

I guess we didn't look trustworthy, as none of us got to hold a ball.
The elves then invited kids to come out in the street to dance:

    Craziness ensued:

After getting the kids riled up, the elves returned to formation, and marched down the street:

Check out the hair on that CM across the street:

    That girl could play Rapunzel!
But, she didn't win the Best Hair award for today.
I'll have a photo of the winner in the next update.
    Hey, here comes the parade:

Today, December 23, was the first day the Christmas parade was performed for regular day guests.  Up until now, the only time you could see it was at one of the hard ticket Mickey's Very Merry Christmas parties on select nights.
This is a really good parade.
It starts with a good assortment of characters in scarves:

    There they go:

Since this is the Christmas Parade, Mickey and Minnie are on the first float rather than the last:

So far, this year's parade looked the same as last year's.
But, this little musical ensemble was new.  And, they were good:

There's a whole lot of Anna and Elsa in this parade, and here they come now:

Those are Fort Wilderness horses right there, and I recognize this driver as a Fort CM.  I don't think I've ever seen the Christmas parade when she wasn't driving one of the horse-drawn floats:

I think she has a pretty cool job.
And, on the other end of the spectrum, we have the royal pooper scoopers:

Are you liking this so far?
    Good.
I've got a bunch more parade photos to share in the next update.  We'll break this one off here so you don't get overloaded with Frozen.

Well we just did it but not by choice. Hurricane split our stay. They gave us a room close to the parking lot and we hauled stuff back and forth. We weren't packed for staying in a motel that was the biggest pain we had no luggage.  At PORS parking was no problem just make sure they know you have a rig to park and they will put you in the right section of the resort with better parking for it. My self if I bring my RV I want to stay in it.

This could be a good alternative if you wanted a Mickey lamp but didn't have the time to make your own.
