  1. Welcome. There are bike racks at the boat launch, settlement, outpost, and the pools. There are also fences you can lock the bikes to if you have a cable/chain. Closest grocery store is about 5 ? miles away which is a Winn-Dixie. Wal-Mart super center and Publix are a little further. Best bet is to load up before you hit the Fort. Universal is about a 1/2 hour or so drive. There is no transportation between Disney and Universal. A lot of campers utilize a taxi/limo service. If you do a search of the topics you will find comments/stories. Some do 1 or 2 day car rentals. I think En
  2. As I had mentioned in a post I had started, we cancelled our Spring Break stay at the fort. With taxes, etc., the partial site was close to $90 a night. We booked the Caribe Royale Suites at the corner of 535/International for $83 a night with taxes/fees. It's not Disney, but we will survive. We only booked 1 night, whereas, we had 4 booked at the Fort, since it doesn't make sense to book 1 or 2 nights at the Fort and deal with all of the setting up and breaking down. We used Hotwire and found a special code that took the original $103 with taxes down to the $83.
  3. I know the CMs are just doing their job and it's not their fault. It's managements fault for letting so many people into the park. BINGO!! We have a winner! If you can't expand the park/amenities to handle the crowds, then start closing the gates. We couldn't get near any places to eat a week ago Friday at lunch time (as late as 1:30) so we left and walked to the Contemporary.
  4. Fast Pass + is a joke. We used it last Friday our first trip back to the parks in about 4+ years. My daughter copied her passes to,us, but we got Haunted Mansion instead of Mine Train. My other daughter and granddaughter got HM a 1/2 hour after us. So we waited for her time so we all could go thru. Checked MDE and what the,we now had Mine Train. So we did a band swap so daughter/gd could go to mine train. We come out they were there and said they couldn't get on Mine Train. Got my band back, gd and I ran over to MT and the scanners didn't go green. Showed the CM my phone and she let us in.
  5. ABC is good since it's close, but Total Wine and Beer has 2 to 3 times the selection and usually better prices. Winn Dixie if they have a liquor store attached will have a good selection. There is a Wal Mart super store down 535 towards 192 then the Publix a little past it.
  6. We rented one of the trailers, might have been late 80's? I remember they had a few of them scattered in different loops.
  7. Contempo Café at the Contemporary. We walked over to there last Friday from MK because the lines were too long at all of the food places at lunch time. My wife got a Turkey BLT platter and I got a salad. She saved 1/2 of her sandwich and had it later in the day. My salad was good, but I missed the one they used to have with the craisins in it. I can't remember what else was in it but it was good. I got the vegetable salad, had the usual greens, ripe tomato, feta, corn, and grilled tofu cubes. How are the meals at the restaurant next to Small World?
  8. Don't know the exact time, but if the bus isn't too crowded and noisy its long enough for a nap!
  9. Well you are still on property and saving money, so how bad can it be?
  10. Sorry no food pictures, just an observation. If you've been to Subway recently, you might have seen one of the sauces they now have is Creamy Sriracha. It's tasty, has a nice bite to it, to me it's not overpowering. We do the majority of our grocery shopping at Aldi, and this weeks special theme items are Oriental. They have a squeeze bottle of Creamy Sriracha that is as good or better than Subways! They also have sweet and sour and teriyaki sauces that are good for dipping or toppings on dishes. We always find something interesting when we shop there.
  11. Good deal! Did they notify you, or were you searching?
  12. The walking from the 1600-1900 isn't too bad. Depends on where you are in the loop. There are links to maps on this site including Google Earth. You could use that to figure out the distances.
  13. Yup, forgot that one. It covers the bike barn and the campfire program also.
  14. There's a rack just before the beach. Pretty sure there is one by Pioneer Hall and the Outpost bus Depot. I know there is one at Wilderness Lodge near their beach area. There are plenty of fences around the Fort you can chain them to.
  15. Reading about the upcoming price increases made us get our Seasonal Annual passes by the end of January . Guy I work with went and bought the 10 day Park Hopper with no expiration. Cost him about $700. He only plans on going once a year, so he's good for a decade.
  16. Worst case is parking at Downtown Disney and taking a couple of long bus rides, if they aren't checking bands.
  17. Yes there is, and believe it or not, it's actually more expensive than Disney's!
  18. Orlando news is reporting that there is a significant price increase coming to Disney World. MK is going to over $100, which I thought it already was, and the others are going to $99. Then there's this KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Developers on Wednesday announced plans for a $309 million resort near Kissimmee that would include 14-story ski and snowboard mountain, an indoor/outdoor skateboard park and a snowball fight arena. Xero Gravity Action Sports said it plans to build the Action Sports & Entertainment Resort near the intersection of U.S. Highway 192 and State Road 535 in Osceola County, about
  19. My wife was a Priceline whiz, but with the new changes they have screwed up the bidding everywhere in the country, and especially in the Disney area. We used to get the Embassy Suites over on Palm Parkway for $35 a night with made to order breakfast and a happy hour every night, with no fees. My in-laws stayed there in July for 1 night after they left the Treehouse Villas. Even with Priceline it was $120 plus a resort fee. I can see an urban downtown hotel charging a parking fee, because they may be paying a garage to park guests cars in, but there's no way the Disney area resorts shoul
  20. Most of those resorts are at the same or higher costs than staying on property. The Omni is a nice resort. It's at the Championsgate exit west of Celebration. Nice rooms, beautiful property, lots for kids to do. The have a quiet pool, a family pool and a lazy river. They have crafts and scuba lessons for extra fees. We've stayed there a couple of times using Priceline and got great rates. But they have now followed the majority of other hotels in the area and have added either a resort fee or a parking fee of about $25 a day. It's just another way that the hotels gouge you like t
  21. Last week my wife booked us 4 nights Monday thru Friday in March at a partial site for my granddaughters spring break. We put the deposit down which came to almost $90. After some discussions, we turned in the reservation last night. Now don't get me wrong, we love the Fort, but looking at a close to $360 stay, we didn't feel like it was worth it at this time. We decided to do some day trips to different places (museums, beach), probably stay at my daughters place out past the airport for a few days, and just drive to the parks for day trips. I guess it boiled down to how we wanted t
  22. Thanks for joining. I'll let the others chime in on the premium sites. We only stay in the partial hookup ones. A lot of the golf cart rental companies can no longer deliver to the Fort. You have to meet off property and bring it in your self. Again others will chime in that have rented from those vendors. Fort is a great place to spend the entire time. There is plenty to do to keep you all busy. Check out the nightly wagon rides.
