    It's been a minute. 🙂

Just a quick update to this story. Our beautiful girl, Addie, will be 6 years old in April! Time flies by so fast. Addie has been such a blessing to our lives, we love her very, very much. She is a joy to everyone who meets here, after they get over their initial fear. She looks very intimidating, running up to someone to say hello, but she is a sweetie, and that's all she is trying to do.

She's such a good girl. I've had a fifth grandchild, my first girl, who is four years old now. She lives here on the same property with us and despite the enormous size difference, Addie has been taking orders from her since she was old enough to talk.

Of course all of our grandchildren have been taught respect for our animals, since birth. They don't pull hair or tails, or get in animals' space. But Ms. Tiny-Mite does know Addie's commands and uses them effectively.

As gentle and amazing as Addie is with children, and our friends & family, she is also a wonderful protection dog. NOBODY that she doesn't know will be allowed anywhere near the children. She's not crazy about strangers around us, either, but she behaves when we tell her to.

I'm so thankful for both us and Addie that Andrew chose us to be her family. She does have separation anxiety, which was why she ate Andrew's new fifth wheel. 🤣 We are a perfect family for that because there is always someone here. We have three homes on our property now, with nine family members living here. Addie is very rarely alone, probably not more than an hour in the past couple of years. That would be difficult to do for most families.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my brag post. We lost one of our feral cats on Saturday, so I'm feeling emotional about our babies. ❤️

First off, let me say it's great to see a trip report here.  Enjoying reading it!
But I also have to say, regarding the part I quoted above...I don't know what any of that means but it sounds like the garbage I deal with at work every day.  Technology that is supposed to make things better doesn't work as intended, and we waste more time trying to find a workaround than it would have taken to do it the old way.  Why would I want to do that on vacation??

I guess they don't want those of us that don't like to micromanage their day or to be micromanaged when visiting the parks.

Yep.  I can count the number of rope drops I've seen on one hand, and often we don't get to the parks until noon.  But we also pick our park of the day based on what's open the latest.  I think I've only ever ridden Peter Pan after midnight (I refuse to wait an hour and don't generally waste a FP on it.)  lol
I'd love for those late hours to return - after midnight almost everything was a walk on and the parks were so cool at night when they weren't crowded - but short of paid events like this, I doubt that will happen.

The first ride of the day is Pirates. Then Big thunder and Haunted mansion all three had a 20 min wait. We then board the Liberty Bell. While waiting to leave we see are first cavalcade. After a nice trip around and, lot's of waving we exit and plan to ride a raft over to Tom's island but it is not running. I then run into the Horseshoe restaurant to get some water while in there I have the nicest Cm help me out. After a quick break we see that the rafts are now running.
We have not been over to Tom Sawyer Island in a long time my son really doesn't remember it. Let me tell you how nice it is to have some room on those rafts. We explore the island for about a hour and head back out. It was a nice break away from the crowds. Next we head into Fantasyland and, ride Perter pan, It's a small world, Pooh and, we watch Mickey's PhillarMagic.
My son decides he wants a waffle and chicken sandwich. We had seen someone with it and they say it it's good. We head over and order at the window. While waiting we see another cavalcade. He enjoys his sandwich and the chips it comes with. We decide now is to the time to ride Splash. It's later in the day but not to late that you can still dry quickly. The line is a little bit shorter than what it was earlier.
Wait time is posted 60 min. It starts to sprinkle while we are in line but only lasts a few min. This might be the last time we ride it as Splash so we really wanted to make sure we ride it. It takes about 45 min not to bad. I'm short my son is tall I make sure he sit's in front of me. He get's the very front and get's pretty wet. I really only get a little wet. My plan worked! Big thunder only has a 15 min wait we all love this ride and take another trip on the wildest ride in the wilderness.
Now is the time of the day when we usually would head over to the Ice Cream Parlor and get a nice treat. Sadly it was not open. We look forward to this every trip. Now is it the best ice cream I have ever had? No but, it is something we have done since my son was little. They did have some ice cream available by Cosmic Rays but we decided to skip it.
My son and I get in line for Space Mountain my husband doesn't like this ride it's to rough for him he takes a pass. Wait time is posted 35 min. Soon after we are in line it starts to grow and wait time is posted 45 min. While we are doing this my husband mobile orders us some burgers and fries. We end up waiting the 35 min. This ride is rough but, I still like it. We find my husband eat and decide what's next. it's starting to get late we have to pick and choose.
We decide on Buzz again I find a really nice Cm while waiting in line and we chat for a few min. The final outcome was I was the biggest looser. We head over to the newly opened PeopleMover in which we wait longer than we did for Buzz.
We have time for one more ride. What will the last ride be?

Remember back in the good old days where we had real news reports where the anchors reported the news, didn't do happy talk or interject their opinions.
    Huntley/Brinkley, Walter Cronkite, Gabe Pressman.
Now we have "news" shows that are like the View/Today show.  Very little substantial news, lots of happy crap that would in the past be only printed in a neighborhood news letter.
Things are confusing because everyone puts their own spins on everything and we have more talking head "experts" than stars in the sky.
With FB and other social media anyone can spout whatever they feel like and hordes of people believe them without any evidence backing them.
And everything is reported instantly.  If the CDC says something, it's known worldwide in minutes, and if they made an error or want to backtrack the genie is out of the bottle.
Has there been a lot of conflicting info from the CDC and other experts?  Heck yeah.
But they are just trying to appease the masses that want an immediate solution.
This is still a very fluid situation and experts are learning more about COVID daily, so there are bound to be contradictions from previous reports.
But this is just the way we live now......

I know for myself that when I first joined Fort Fiends I was a SAHM. My children were between the ages of 8-14. I had more time after they went to bed to post and comment. As they got older and as I started working part time my time became more limited. I also agree with Carol about the ease of posting pictures for Trip Reports is gone. Sadly, I don’t have a solution for that.
My thought is this rather than focus on the past, why not continue to just post when we feel called. When I need prayers or positive thoughts I know I can turn to Fort Fiends. If I need advice on places to eat either at Disney or even places outside of Disney Ike Memphis, I don’t ask my friends on Facebook. I come here to Fort Fiends.

Like I said in the initial post, there used to be posts about the Fort, Disney, the evil Universal, food, characters, and ones that went off the track so far you had to go back to the original OP to find out what everyone was talking about.
There was always something to read and reply to.
    I miss those days.

Ha! This thread is very interesting (and funny to me) !  I only have had cats. And they don't do the stinky snacks. I never knew dogs did that, until a few years ago. I had scooped my cats litter one day and had sat it on the porch to put in the trash can outside. I use brown lunch bags to put it in. So I go out a few minutes later and my neighbors dog is out there in it chomping away. I am like freaking out, afraid the dog is going to end up sick. I call the neighbor and she's like, yeah no big deal he does that all the time. I was like oh, okay. 😂

I just wanted to say, Thank You, to all of you that have written and are writing travel reports.
My Dad had a stroke a few weeks ago and has been in and out of the hospital. Reading your
travel reports have helped give me a break from the hospital boredom. I have enjoyed reading them.
Dad is now home and doing pretty good. He is having trouble walking, (very weak and unsteady) but has
    been getting physical therapy.
    Thanks again!

Ivy reacted to keith_h in Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort - Charlotte, NC
We spent this last weekend visiting Charlotte. We decided to stay at the Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort. The GoodSam rate was $49.49/night on the weekend and $38.69/night on Sunday through Thursday. The rate includes taxes. It is still off season so I expect the rates could be higher during the summer. It is very close to I-77 at the NC/SC state line. It is easy to get into although there is a lot of traffic due to Carowinds Amusement Park using the same exit and roads. Watch your speed while on the SC portions of the local roads. Every time we drove we saw the Sheriff pulling people over and assume it is a big money generator for them. While on NC portions of the road we never saw a law enforcement officer of any type.
The RV campsites are all fairly level and paved. From side to side I was able to level the trailer with a one inch board. Front to back was in the typical range I always use to level the TT. Some of the sites would take more front to back adjustment to level but I didn't see any where you wouldn't be within the range of the front jack although they might require a couple of blocks for the stabilizers. The space between the campsites is more than your typical KOA but not as much as the state parks we visit. A good portion of the campground is shaded or has large trees placed to give the RV shade during the day.
Over all the campground is clean with no visible garbage. The campground is very sandy however and a lot washes onto the RV pads which the campground does not appear to care about cleaning up. We ended up sweeping the site and putting down our rug to keep from dragging it into the trailer and truck. The restrooms and shower facilities were clean and look to be new or recently renovated. The building in the RV area is all family style with very large, fully equipped bathrooms. I would give them an A for those with disabilities or people needing more room or an assistant. There are also traditional and family style facilities at the lodge. The traditional are your typical facilities where there are stalls and showers for the disabled but they are not the largest and would be hard to use with an assistant. I assume the family style are the same as in the RV section based on the building size.
If you visit the Carowinds Amusement Park you can catch a free shuttle from the campground or drive as you get free parking as a guest. For the sports minded there is also a large Cabella's.
Drawbacks (or not depending upon your viewpoint):
The WiFi was disappointing. When it would stay connected actual speeds were in the 1 Mbps range. Fine for low content web browsing or e-mail but not for anything that moves much data. I noticed the closest repeater to us didn't even have equipment attached anymore so it doesn't appear that Carowinds puts a lot into it.

There is no cable TV but the local stations are easy to pick up via an antenna.

The biggy for us is the campground is under the landing path for Charlotte-Douglas Airport. This airport is the 5th busiest in the country and sees a lot of planes. When we arrived Friday it was non-stop until around midnight. It then kicked off about 5:30 AM Saturday. From noon Saturday through Monday morning the traffic wasn't as bad and it was pretty quiet most of the day with the planes stopping by 7-8 PM and starting after 8AM. I suspect it would have picked up starting Monday afternoon through Friday with flights coming in as late as midnight as it did when we arrived.

So we think the campground is nice enough and if it wasn't for the aircraft and me being a light sleeper would go there again. If I was traveling along I-77 and needed an overnight I would not let the planes stop me as it nice campground with decent rates. When the planes aren't flying over it is actually a quiet campground.

On a side note we decided to look at the Fort Mill KOA that is just south of Carowinds. It doesn't have a good reputation but we wanted to see it for ourselves. Since it was a sneak and see I cannot say what the inside of their facilities look like but based on outside and the rest of the campground I would avoid it. The campground is not level and looks very rundown. The roads and sites are all gravel with a small amount of dirt between the sites. I've seen tenements in better shape than many of the trailers in the seasonal section. It sits behind a Publix and the campground owners gas station/bar. All I can say is we will not ever be staying there.

So the first day of driving we got a very late start, about 3 hours after what we were planning.  We drove and got to Nashville then decided start looking for a place for the night.  My wife got on the phone and started calling campgrounds and found that there was something going on in Nashville and everyone was full.  She finally found a place at Cullman Campgrounds, it was nothing fancy we just parked on the grass and plugged in for the night.  The next morning my wife said a tire looked low and when I checked it was very low.  I had put an air compressor in the storage under the motor home and filled the tire and headed into town to get it fixed.
We arrived in Cullman and found McGriff Tire.  They had room I could back the back of the motor home into one of their bays and they got right to work getting the tire off.  They could not find a leak spraying the tire so the put it in the water tank that allows them to find small leaks.  They still found nothing wrong so being the outside tire on the back side they started adding the extender on that was on the valve stem and found out that it was a little metal extended piece that the previous owner put on that was leaking.  Easy fix just some work to get it figured out.  I took those off all the wheels and they replaced them with a new style that they said would not leak and put new caps on all of them.  I went to pay and they said have a safe trip and would not take any money!  This was the first of the magic that happened on our trip.
After the late start getting the tire done we drove and made it to Wekiwa Springs State Park in Florida before checking into the Fort the next day.  We arrived late at this park but what time we did spend there was nice.  It was quite and the amenities were nice and clean.

Here are the kids and my mom as we were on the road the first day.
