I must give credit where it is due.   The TCD twins and I found ourselves in WDW last Saturday.  I was getting new tires for one of the girls' cars, and we decided to patronize the subcontractor who o

Is this why Disney Quest closed.  Is it going in the same location?

The WDWMAGIC site reported that it's going in to space at the Once Upon a Toy Marketplace:

The new experience will use space from Once Upon A Toy in the Marketplace, with most of the merchandise from that area relocated to the new Star Wars Trading Post.

So, not in Disney Quest.  It must be a pretty small experience.

Just today, the Disney Parks Blog announced that three more restaurant/bar concepts are being squeezed in to Disney Springs.  They are all from the same outfit that is going to operate the Edison restaurant if it ever opens, and all are Italian themed:

Buon appetito! Disney Springs Welcomes Three New Italian Concepts

Coming this winter, three modern Italian restaurants will be arriving at Disney Springs. These restaurants, all new concepts created by the Patina Restaurant Group, each feature unique menus and authentic Italian food in a beautiful and expansive dining complex. The complex will be located adjacent to The Edison, a lavish “Industrial Gothic”-style destination also being developed by Patina. The new concepts all tie into Disney Springs’ storyline of a restored Florida waterfront town, bringing unforgettable food and wine direct from Italy to the Sunshine State, with stunning scenery you can only find at Disney Springs.

The first concept, called Maria & Enzo’s, is a trattoria set in the town’s abandoned 1930’s airline terminal which has now been transformed into an open and airy restaurant. Featuring gorgeous views of Lake Buena Vista and incredible 50-foot ceilings, the interior dining room is adorned with artifacts that reflect air travel of the time such as maps and historic flight paths. Inspired by Sicily, the menu has a delightful range of family-friendly dishes – Arancini di Carne (rice balls stuffed with meat), Melanzane Parmigiana (eggplant parmesan), and handmade pastas including Busiate con Granchio (spiral pasta with crab) and ‘Ncasiata al Forno (Sicilian baked pasta) – all served tableside. Other delectable highlights include fresh fish, richly flavored steaks and chops.

The second concept is Enzo’s Hideaway – Enzo’s own personal speakeasy inspired by Roman aperitivo bars. Located in the storied rum-runner tunnels that adjoin Maria & Enzo’s and steeped in Florida’s true history of rum-running, Enzo’s Hideaway will pour Prohibition-era cocktails at its Tunnel Bar and serve a casual menu of hearty Roman Dishes such as the city’s legendary Bucatini alla Carbonara (hollow spaghetti with creamy egg and pancetta sauce) and Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe (square-cut spaghetti with pecorino and black pepper).

Finally, Pizza Ponte rounds out the group with a fast-casual restaurant serving pizza, pastries, Italian sandwiches and espresso. With the perfect blend of savory and sweet, Pizza Ponte is the ideal place quick bite. On the savory side, the menu features Pizza al Taglio (Sicilian-style pizza served by the slice), signature Tirangolo (stuffed pizza bread) sandwiches, and Porchetta (roast pork). To satisfy your sweet tooth, pastry specialties include Bombolini (Italian donuts), Sfoglia di Riso (pastry with rice cream), and Tiramisu.

Maria & Enzo’s, Enzo’s Hideaway, and Pizza Ponte are set to open at Disney Springs this winter, and are sure to leave you saying, “Delizioso!” If you want to learn more about the Pantina Restaurant Group and their incredible restaurants such as these, visit www.patinagroup.com

These new concepts are just the beginning of a whole list of new list of exciting food and beverage concepts coming to Disney Springs. Coming soon are new locations such as The Edison, Terralina Crafted Italian, Wine Bar George, Jaleo by José Andrés, and Wolfgang Puck Bar and Grill! Stay tuned for more updates on these amazing new locations.

I can't believe that they're adding more restaurants and bars.  Are there enough customers?

I'm trying to think; where is the "abandoned 1930's airline terminal"? It says it will be located next to the Edison, but there is Paradiso 37 on one side of the Edison and the bridge on the other.  Unless some of what looked to be the Edison is set aside for the restaurants, I'm not sure where this will be.  There is no additional construction in that area except for the Edison, and if they are to open this winter, the structures should be there.  I'm assuming the abandoned terminal will not be a reimagined Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar (I hope not).

I haven't been there in awhile, but the old BET is physically connected to the old AC and there is an underground connection to the two buildings. Perhaps they styled the old BET similar to the Edison and that is what they are talking about.

I see this is the same restaurant group that operates Via Napoli and Tutto Italia at Epcot.  The food there is usually pretty good.  Since I assume they have the Tutto Gusto as well that menu would likely be similar to what the Enzo's Hideaway might serve?

Whatever these bars/restaurants are, they appear to be part of the Edison.

Over two years ago, there was news about a place called Walt's Restaurant and the Neverland Tunnels that were supposed to be adjacent to the Edison:

While details are still emerging, we are hearing that there will be a restaurant called Walt’s and a bar/lounge named the Neverland Tunnels. Both will apparently be located adjacent to the previously-announced Edison. In fact, you may have to go through The Edison and Walt’s in order to access the Neverland Tunnels.

These new Italian joints must be what those ideas morphed into.

Usually Italian joints profit margins are large.

Pasta is cheap, sauce isn't that pricey, and they load you up with bread and a huge amount of pasta and smaller amounts of the meats and veggies

If you are visiting Disney Springs soon, pay attention to the installation of the new pedestrian bridge.  Here are the details, enjoy!

http://chipandco.com/new-pedestrian-bridge-being-installed-at-disney-srpings-may-cause-traffic-problems-311503/

New Pedestrian Bridge Being Installed at Disney Srpings May Cause Traffic Problems

Pedestrian Bridge

Construction progress is well underway on the new parking garage located along Buena Vista Drive at Disney Springs. Orlando Theme Park News reports that there will now be a pedestrian bridge built to make access from the new parking garage to Disney Springs and the Casting and Partners building more convenient. The location of the bridge will connect to the north side of the Lime garage behind where World of Disney is located. This new pedestrian bridge is scheduled to begin construction during the evening hours of June 22.

The installation of the pedestrian bridge may cause some traffic problems on Buena Vista Drive during the evening and morning hours of June 25-26.

  • The entrance to Lime Garage will be closed beginning at 6 p.m. Guests parked in the Lime Garage need to exit by 11 p.m. Signage will be displayed at the garage notifying Guests of the early closure.
  • Eastbound Buena Vista Drive will be closed from the intersection near the Speedway gas station and Lime Garage to Hotel Plaza Boulevard from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Westbound Buena Vista Drive will be closed from Hotel Plaza Boulevard to the Lime Garage from 11 p.m.to 6 a.m.

The new parking garage at Disney Springs is scheduled to be open in 2019. The garage located directly across Buena Vista Dr from the Lime Parking garage will provide an additional 3,000 covered parking spaces. Similar to the other two Disney Springs garages this will also have five parking levels. This new parking facility will use the same smart technology as the existing garages, which shows drivers how many open parking spots there are in each lane. See construction photos here.

We did spend some time at Disney Springs this trip. We loved all the new stuff, but noticed some favorites were gone.

There was a belt vendor there for years that Rick always bought his belts from. He is now gone.

We also noticed the Hanes T-Shirt shop was gone. I always got custom shirts made there for pajama shirts to wear camping.

I personally like the talking trash can in MK, but here is another version of talking robots.  This one is at Planet Hollywood.

Quote

There’s a new robot in town greeting the guests of Planet Hollywood Observatory at Disney Spring. A charming little metal man with a big pair of googly eyes, Plex the talking robot interacts with patrons and poses for photos. According to Planet Hollywood, Plex is the creation of Max, the teenage son of Prof. Earl, founder of the Planet Hollywood Observatory.

Plex-Planet-Hollywood-2.jpg

Plex will be hanging out Monday through Friday from 12-8pm if you want to say hello. Sources say there may be more future plans with Plex down the line.

Also he seemed to take a shine to our camera so watch the video below…
