Signage goes up at new Sanuk store in Disney Springs
Jan 30, 2015 | 12:36pm EST

Sanuk becomes the third new store to put up signage ahead of opening in the new Landing district of Disney Springs.

The new shoe store is located in the new shopping area on the former Pleasure Island hill, just opposite Paradiso 37.

Photos are here...

Sanuk is being billed as "creatively inspired shoes" and their motto is "never uncomfortable" - which I guess makes them a good fit for the place where people tend to walk many miles a day!

The new stores at Downtown Disney Springs are starting to open...

Chapel Hats is the first of many new stores opening at Downtown Disney Springs

February 5, 2015 | Disney, Downtown Disney, Shopping, Walt Disney World

As construction on some areas around Downtown Disney begin to finish, several new stores are beginning to open their doors.

Downtown Disney is currently undergoing the largest expansion in its history, to be renamed and re-imagined as Disney Springs, a new waterfront district for shopping, dining and entertainment. Chapel Hats is part of the first phase of store openings planned for what eventually will be known as The Landing within Disney Springs.

In the Chapel Hats’ Downtown Disney location, shoppers will find shelving made of reclaimed wood and early 20th century lead glass. The mirrors are designed in the style of the Arts and Crafts movement using only salvaged wood. Decorative tables in the store were constructed using old shipping container hatch doors, for a unique look. Shoppers will also notice that some of the fashion hats are displayed on old spools from 1920s textile factories.

Hours of operation for Chapel Hats will be 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. 365 days a year.

Other locations within The Landing that are now open or coming soon include:

• APEX by Sunglass Hut (OPEN): Sports and activewear sunglasses.

• Art of Shaving (OPEN): Premium shaving shop with grooming essentials for the modern man.

• Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC: A gluten-free, vegan bakery.

From the Disney Parks Blog...

Excited about the ongoing transformation taking place at the Downtown Disney Area? I am, too! Last Friday was an especially notable day as hundreds of cast members and partners gathered to celebrate the opening of the Village Causeway, a new bridge that connects the area near The LEGO Store across the water to Rainforest Café. Not only is this my new favorite route to work, but it’s quickly becoming a popular guest spot for photos, sunset viewing, and shopping – yes, shopping!

I recently shared information on two new kiosks at the Downtown Disney Area, and four more have just opened on the Village Causeway:

  • Flour & Sugar – Perfect for guests who want to take a taste of the Sunshine State home with them, this new shop offers freshly baked cookies with Florida flavors like coconut, key lime and strawberry. (I hear the South Beach Toasted Coconut Key Lime Cookie is especially tempting!) You can buy them individually or in easy-to-transport canisters of six.
  • Florida Bath Co. — Lately, I’m loving specialty soaps, and this locale offers products made with home grown ingredients like organic vegetable juices and essential citrus oils. If you love Basin, you’ll love this – they share the same owners.
  • Icon Jewellery by Bico – Want your accessories to have meaning? Check out this shop where concepts like Love and Friendship, Protection, Strength and Luck are represented in pieces crafted from hand-polished fine grade pewter and enhanced with fine materials like Swarovski Crystals, New Guinea Rosewood and genuine leather. The best part … you can customize your jewelry just the way you like.
  • Kate & Leo – No doubt about it, I’ll be buying my nieces toys and games from this charming cart. With items designed to evoke a world of curiosity, creativity and imagination, you’ll find travel games, magnetic story boards, beautiful art supplies and more, no batteries required.

During your next visit to Downtown Disney Marketplace, be sure to stroll the Village Causeway – it’s my favorite recent enhancement to the neighborhood and I have a feeling it may become yours, too!

Last summer, we opened the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace in Florida. This flexible space location serves as a testing ground for new retail shop concepts, products and guest experiences. Shortly after it opened in June 2014, we added a small fixture that featured products from the WonderGround Gallery at Downtown Disney District in California. Today, I’m excited to announce that the WonderGround Gallery will be expanding beginning in early March 2015.

WGGDTD8575925-613x613.jpg

To celebrate this newest addition, I invite you to attend a grand opening event on March 6-7. We will have a few artists making appearances both days including Jasmine Beckett Griffith, Robert Jimenez and Jerrod Maruyama.

WGGDTD8575926-613x613.jpg

Moving into WonderGround Gallery’s former space is The Sign Shop, which will carry an assortment of Disney Parks-inspired signs similar to ones offered at Disney Centerpiece and at select Art of Disney locations. We will release some new items including a Hollywood Tower Hotel sign by Disney Design Group Artist Richard Terpstra, a mermaid image by Tony Harris, and some unique photography pieces by Michael Lewis Glover (he will also be attending the grand opening weekend).

I hope to see you there!

From Inside the Magic...

Planet Hollywood to receive new look, becoming Planet Hollywood Observatory at Walt Disney World

As part of the transition from Downtown Disney to Disney Springs, the Planet Hollywood restaurant is becoming a “four-story stargazing observatory” called Planet Hollywood Observatory.

Set to debut in spring 2016, the reimagined Planet Hollywood Observatory will feature a newly-expanded outdoor terrace and bar, a refreshed menu, new merchandise, and celebrity partnerships. The new outdoor terrace and outdoor bar will be called Stargazers, featuring live entertainment with music inside via DJ performances.

Renovations will begin early next year, transforming the exterior into a turn-of-the-century design aesthetic while updating the interior with spherical planet-shaped lighting fixtures. A rendering was released today depicting what the outside of the restaurant will look like when complete.
