Leaked River Country DVC Plans

Recommended Posts

Well there you go, we're getting a Branson DVC. That does fit in well with the overall Fort theme, and Pioneer Hall with the live show. Maybe while they're at it they can tear down the Magic Kingdom and build Silver Dollar City?

That's not a bad idea. Except the whole tear down the MK thing.

Branson hotels don't allow locals and non guests to use there pools.

As a related aside... I'm going to venture a guess that this thread is going to generate a lot of first time visitors to Fort Fiends so...   WELCOME!   If you haven't already created a user name/login

Maybe they'll conduct a training burn on Jacob's Cabin after the bat house is finished?

Suddenly I am seeing a new tour offered by Disney World.

I agree that parking lot is the biggest problem.

But, still, the campground remains intact.  Nothing changes between the Settlement and the Outpost.

I am still poking around in the plans, and came across this interesting detail on a schedule where they list all the different kind of pavement (or hard-scape) they planned to use:

Alligator Tracks!

TCD

Is it possible the theme is the Mississippi River in general? Alligators in the Louisiana portion and then include the other portions, through the wilderness areas of the country/ frontier where the Fort and Settlement are. Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. Does a little overlap with Port Orleans, though. Otherwise I'm stumped by alligator tracks and palm fronds if it's Missouri.

I have been reading this over and going over everything in my head.  I will admit, a glass of wine has cleared my thinking some :wine:

My first camping trip was in 73 or 74 and the Fort we know today is a mere shadow of what it was then.  Things have been added, deleted, changed and mucked with all the time.  People are saying the beach won't be the sam, but I thought that when they stopped allowing swimming.  I can remember swimming to the right of the marina dock in what is now just water grass and reeds.

Do I like the parking lot location, no.  Would like them to move it, yes.  But as others have said Disney imagineers are the masters of hiding things.  Lets hope they do it again.

I think it will add something to the Fort area.  I hope I'm right.

I'm just catching up, but in 2001, my first trip to the Fort, they were still running Boone, Crockett, Chip, and Dale.  Didn't like it!!!  That was still my days of closing down PI every night.  Sitting at TTC at 2:30 in the morning was pretty spooky.

If they build the DVC will the Fort still have the beach to go to?

It looks like it.

This is a zoom on the excellent overlay created by Bay Lake Campers.  It shows the outline of the building that will sit on what is now part of Clementine's Beach (that's the Fort's marina building in the top right corner of the photo).  You can see the lounge chairs that they line up on the beach in this photo.  Also, the beach to the east of the marina will still be there, although that new Dining Pavilion will be over there.  I guess that will get them to clean up the beach a bit over there:

And so, your theory of Mickey's Backyard Massage Parlor and Casino will come to fruition.

Yes, or skip Missouri and the Mississippi altogether.

I remember discussing the idea of Disney's Cypress Point Lodge a long time ago on another discussion board.

There's a great article about that concept, which was actually announced in the Disney CM publication, Eyes and Ears, here:

Maybe you can help me with something I can't quite remember-  I thought the Boone and Crockett buses traveled through the Campground.  Did they?  What route did they take?  I remember that they went back and forth between the TTC, but if one traveled from the Settlement to the Outpost, where did it go then?  Did it leave for the TTC from the Outpost?  And then the other would travel the opposite direction and leave for the TTC from the Settlement?  Did the buses circulate through the entire Fort?   The cabin loops and everything?  I think that's what they did, which is why I never rode them.

The way I remember, Chip and Dale buses ran from outpost to settlement and back only Boone and Crockett were the only buses that left the Fort. My memory is fuzzy about Boone and Crockett actual route.  But I seem to remember they went through the campground also.

That's the way I remember it too.

I believe that the Boone and/or Crockett bus also stopped at Wilderness Lodge on the way back from the TTC.

and that would be me :)  I've got an inkling, but I just can't imagine

Me as well. I hold a degree in Logistics Management and find it all very interesting. Allot of what goes on at Disney is logistically planned out to a T. Its amazing how seamless things run. If you could see behind the scenes it would make your head spin at times.

I've read through this whole thread and have a few thoughts.  Number one, is this thread is EXACTLY why I like this place.  Great details, great discussion, great people bringing out the details.

Number two, yes this will be a wonderful new resort.  If you are staying there, which I won't be able to afford.  So yes the pictures are great, and it will have cool bars and pools and restaurants, all of which we will not be able to enjoy.

Number three, then they put this wonderful new resort that we can look at but not touch, right smack in the middle of our living room.  WTH?  Those buildings are going to tower over any ambiance the settlement had.  It's going to be wrecked and we'll never get it back.   I'm just making reservations for April, and I can't believe how much the prices went up.  We are revising our stay from seven days down to four because it is so expensive now.

Move the whole shebang 400 yards west and I'm on board with seeing the tops of these towering buildings from a distance, but we won't have to live with that crappy parking lot and it's car alarms going off throughout the night.

Great post!

It's possible that those in charge of this realized that it's too close to the Fort, and that's why the project has not moved forward.

In the last year, there have been many reports from various sources saying that the project had been abandoned and would not be built.

On the other hand, this all want way past the point of just discussion- they made extensive plans and even made permit applications for the new horse barn and dining pavilion.

We can all hope that if a new DVC resort is going to be built, they will go back to the drawing board and come up with a better plan that won't have such a negative impact on Fort Wilderness (mainly that huge parking lot).

But, I don't think it's realistic to expect that they will move the resort very far away from the Fort- it makes sense for them to put it in a place where the resorts can share public spaces and transportation.  Plus, they need to do something with the River Country land.

Why does everybody think we won't be able to enjoy most of the amenities? We may not get to use the pool, but the resturant(s) and bar(s ) should be the same as OKW, BW, and BC. We have never been denied access to any of those.

I don't think that Fort guests will be prohibited from enjoying the restaurants, but I'm sure they won't let Fort guests use the pool, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some members only amenities like the roof-top bar at BLT.

The pool area at BLT, including the pool bar, is off limits to even Contemporary Resort guests.

But restaurants, sure.  Sanaa at AKL is very popular with non AKL DVC guests.  But the AKL DVC pool and bar is gated and locked.  And the Community Room there is only for DVC guests.

I'm wondering if the plans for the parking lot have at least been changed, even if the whole project is still a go.  If that whole Settlement area designated as a parking lot was to be torn down in the somewhat near future, I wouldn't have expected the roof replacement on the horse barn.  Roof repair possibly, but the entire roof was replaced.

Of course, sometimes one hunk of budgeted money doesn't know what the other hunk of budgeted money is doing.

Exactly right.

That new roof was a big, and no doubt expensive, project.

But you never know with a big company like Disney.

To me, it would make sense to try and leave everything in the Settlement where it is and just find another place for the parking lot.  All that stuff could be enjoyed by the DVC guests too.  And it would save Disney the expense of building a new dining pavilion and new barn.  Who knows, maybe that's what they're thinking too.

Also, it's all about budgets.  The horse operations requested a budget. If the budget was not spent this year, then their budget for the following year would be cut. So some expenditures are all about maintaining a level of spending that they need. They may have cut some other things to get the roof in the budget, but want to bring the things they cut back in later years, so they needed to spend the roof money.

Hi Grumpy!  Lou and I came over and visited you in my golf cart last year about this time.

My only experience from DVC is the BLT, and you can't even get on the property without a key, or using the methods of a certain russian uncle.  So my opinion may be an uninformed one.  Even with full access, I can't fathom that parking lot.

I am thinking they used their planning and logic tools for this idea like they did with the other developments.  Who cares if there is another tower next to the contemporary or another resort?  Nobody, cause it looks normal.  Shoehorning that monstrosity into the Fort just doesn't fit.

I'm no corporate wonk, but my guess is they have multiple projects like this in the planning, and only a small percentage get the trigger pulled.  (others in this thread have said that, better than I can)

Even doing the plans and pulling the permits has such a long timeline, they would have to have many in "development" to be ready to move on one when the time comes.  Let's hope this one, when and if it happens, has some major revisions and relocations.

Even moving the BBQ to behind the 100 loop is dumb.  What a noisy unpleasant mess that would be.  Although I guess I kind of like when we are near the movie and campfire at Meadows, so perhaps it would just be something to get used to.

What they SHOULD do is put in some really high end camping spaces all along from the trading post along the beach to the dam.

That's not true for every organization. Both of my careers in the private sector and the public sector did not require me to follow that philosophy. Capitol improvments and reqular operations were handled seperately and if we had supply/material funds left over they stayed in our account as a surplus 9 out of 10 times the new budget would still see an increase adjusted for inflation. As hard as it is to believe the conservative elected officials I worked for were the most understanding about having budget carryovers and not spending every dime I was allocated.

I can't believe that DISNEY doesn't keep capital expenditures (major improvements & repair) and day to day budgets seperate as well.

To reinforce the point that nobody knows what the future will bring, remember that in 2001, Disney not only had plans and permits in hand, but they actually announced that they would be building a 600 unit DVC resort on the Eagle Pines golf course adjacent to Fort Wilderness.  You can read more about that here:  http://www.disneydrawingboard.com/WDW/EPArea/Eagle%20Pines%20Resort/EaglePinesResort.html

So, plans for that resort proceeded way past the point that plans for the River Country DVC have, and they still pulled the plug on that project.

Here's an interesting development . . .

Remember how that building on the leaked plans was called the Boat House?  The one with the restaurants in it and the boat oars on the ceiling?

Well, a Notice Of Commencement has been recorded by an outfit called The Boat House Orlando, LLC indicating that they are going to be building a 22,000 square foot restaurant in Downtown Disney.

Here's the NOC: http://or.occompt.com/recorder/eagleweb/downloads/20140007793.pdf?parent=DOC1382S10372

The address listed for The Boat House Orlando, LLC. just happens to be the address of a company called  Schussler Creative, Inc.

This company apparently also developed the Yak and Yeti and T Rex: http://www.schusslercreative.com/

So, if there's going to be a Boat House in DTD, is there still going to be a Boat House at the River Country DVC?
