Wow, it's only $50? I'm sure they could've gotten $100 easily, and I bet they are already sold out. And according to the site your shopping experience will last about an hour. You get in line at 9 with your ticket, then you are assigned a random # that tells you when you will get in the store.

What a racket!

They're charging $50 to shop?

Asks the lady who pays $50+ for a cupcake and watered down drink and the right to stand in a roped off area next to where guests get to stand for free to see the Frozen fireworks.

and I bet they are already sold out.

It doesn't look like they're sold out yet.

Hurry!

FUN FACT-  TCD Twin #2 is assigned to WOD (World or Disney) for her Disneyland College Program.  She's still in training, and can be deployed to other locations, but it's possible that she will work this event.

Hey, that money also got me reserved viewing for their "parade" and front row seats to the sing-along when it was all brand new. And fondue.

Hmmmmm- this attempted cash grab doesn't seem to be turning out the way Disney planned.

There are a lot of negative comments posted on the Blog, and some valid questions that they're clearly tap dancing around: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/08/force-friday-merchandise-event-details-released/#comments

Maybe if they offered some fondue?

Just reading the hoops you have to go thru made my head spin.... they will TRY to keep family members together.  You need to show up at 9 to get your shoppers #.  The place will be a madhouse.

It would've been better if they did it at one of the Resorts conference rooms.

Cheese, oil, chocolate, or all 3?

No kidding. And why not publish a catalog of what is available and what it will cost before you ask people to blindly fork over $50?

I guess from their standpoint that $50 is pure profit, so it doesn't matter if only a few suckers bite on this.

It would've been better if they did it at one of the Resorts conference rooms.

Good idea. If they want people to pay $50, at least let them think they are getting something exclusive.

Cheese, oil, chocolate, or all 3?

Ah, sounds like Melting Pot. You forgot the broth one they have.

Even if they had all of the above, it still wouldn't be worth it. Even if they had Anna and Elsa there to feed it to me.

Silly me, I forgot Disney owned the Star Wars franchise when I first read another article about Force Friday.

Here's an explanation...

You’ll Obi-Wan to catch this mega-event.

To ensure the marketing force is strong with the much-awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney is holding what it calls the world’s first-ever “global live toy unboxing event” on Sept. 4.

The livestreamed event will last over 18 hours, during which time Disney will display a new suite of Star Wars toys in an event dubbed “Force Friday.” It will start off in Sydney on Sept. 3 at 7:45 a.m. local time before rolling through other cities, each the site of the unboxing of a new Star Wars toy by popular toy unboxers, gamers and hardcore fans.

The entire launch schedule can be viewed on Disney’s website.

And this

The Force Awakens Around the World: Star Wars Fans Invited to Join Global Event on YouTube This is why Friday is the best day of the week.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens products are set to be unveiled in the world’s first ever global live toy unboxing event. Unfolding over 18 hours in 15 cities and 12 countries, the event will see highlights from the range of epic merchandise revealed in a rolling New Year’s Eve style celebration featuring top digital stars from the Maker Studios network.

Star Wars toys have always played an important role in how our fans interact with the saga,” says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “They’ve inspired multiple generations to relive the experience of the movies and to create new adventures all their own. These spectacular Star Wars: The Force Awakens products will continue that tradition.”

Kicking off in Sydney, Australia on the morning of September 3 and continuing through Asia, Europe, Canada, and North and South America, selections from the new toy line will debut to global fanfare leading up to retailers around the globe opening their doors at midnight.

“Over the course of 18 hours, some of Maker Studios’ biggest stars will each be unboxing a new toy from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens product line in a different city around the world and sharing the experience live on YouTube,” said Leslie Ferraro, President, Disney Consumer Products. “We’ve seen tremendous excitement for these new products and can’t wait to see the global reaction from the Star Wars fan community.”

The Star Wars YouTube channel will host the live stream, which kicks off with the first unboxing in Sydney, Australia at 7:45 a.m. local time on Thursday, Sept. 3 (5:45 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, Sept. 2), with the grand finale at Lucasfilm in San Francisco at 8 a.m. PDT (11 a.m. EDT) on Thursday, Sept. 3. Each of the 15 locations will reveal a new product inspired by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

These “unboxing” videos will feature online personalities sharing the excitement of opening the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys. Unboxing videos have captivated millions of Internet viewers and continue to grow in popularity — 18 of the top 100 most viewed YouTube Channels worldwide are dedicated to toys and toy unboxings. These 18 channels accounted for 8.1 billion views in Q1 2015.

“We’re excited to be part of this first-of-its-kind initiative,” said Chris M. Williams, Chief Audience Officer, Maker Studios. “The unboxing world continues to expand rapidly as audiences around the world connect with digital creators who share their passions. This shared fandom helps attract billions of monthly views and consistently puts the genre at the top of the YouTube charts.”

The global event will incorporate traditional toy unboxers such as the popular EvanTubeHD, channels featuring families such as Bratayley, lifehack specialists such as ExpCaseros, gamers such as AlexBy11, and Star Wars fans from around the world like Chris Pirillo who bring with them a broad audience and appeal. The global lineup includes:

Bottom line, it's a way for Disney to hype up a movie that is already been overhyped, and to sell a lot of stuff.

Wow, Mark,

Just wow.

So, now I have a dilemma.

How is the WiFi at Downtown Disney?

I am going to need to watch all of these celebrities unbox those toys while I am waiting in line to buy by Chewbacca FurbieTM.

On a kind of related matter, there are a ton of "adult" collectables that are out and coming out for Marvel characters.

When I say "adult", I mean expensive, ultra detailed, and ones that don't get played with.

So get your minds out of the gutter, it's not Black Widow in a thong.

I saw a Facebook post for a D23 released Elsa/Hans doll set that was already going for more than $300.

I'm sure the new "adult" Star Wars ones will either be coming out on Force Friday or soon afterwards.

Two merchandise locations – World of Disney Store in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort and Once Upon A Toy in Downtown Disney Marketplace at Walt Disney World Resort – will join stores around the world opening their doors at midnight for a special celebration of all things Star Wars.

So.... too many complaints about the admission fee ("due to overwhelming guest demand"), or not enough people willing to put up $50 to shop??
