Plans for New Dining Pavilion at FW Revived?

Recommended Posts

This is weird.

According to the Orlando Business Journal, "Walt Disney World's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is putting together plans to add a new dining pavilion soon."  The article was originally published on August 4, 2016, and was updated on August 5, 2016 at 7:17 am.

The location described in the article is the same location where Disney previously proposed putting a new dining pavilion to replace the current one (the location of the Backyard BBQ), which was going to be displaced by a new DVC project.  Their previous permit application for that project was the subject of much discussion here, but it ultimately expired.

Here's a link to an old (like more than 5 years old-old) thread from here on Fort Fiends where the original application was discussed and dissected, as per usual.  Note that it appears that the "new" application referred to in the OBJ article also refers to a 3.65 acre parcel:

If this article is right, it signals the first step in the redevelopment of the old River Country area.

But I think something isn't right with the article.

Someone on a FB post (of course I cant find it now on my phone) made a cryptic comment a day or so ago about upcoming plans for River Country.  Said she couldn't say what they were.  Don't know if she's affiliated with the Mouse or not.

She hinted at insider knowledge, but we've heard that before.

The link you posted says near the grocery store, so depending on what they call "near" it could be the vacant land behind the trading post all the way to the new Lodge cabins.

Mark-  When you get a chance read through the 2011 thread that I linked above.  The previous plans called for the new Dining Pavilion to be part of 3.65 acres that would be developed in the area behind and around the Settlement Trading Post.  The OBJ article mentions that the "new" permit is for that exact same amount of land.  If there really was a "new" permit application filed, then it appears to really be the re-filing of the previous application.

Nothing listed in the current permit applications regarding FW. Last open permit for the Fort looks like it's from 2008 BUT it is still listed as active.

Thanks for confirming what you found.  I spent some time looking around on the SFWMD site, and I don't see any new permit applications there.

The original permit for the 3.65 acres was withdrawn on July 27, 2016

here is the link http://my.sfwmd.gov/ePermitting/DetailedReport.do?recordId=14&showMenu=false

Warren-  That link didn't work for me!  Please check it, or post a screen shot.  I'd like to see what you saw.

That's interesting that it was withdrawn just last week.

After all this time?

Maybe something is up?

So this rumor is gaining legs per the usual manner.

Another blogger is telling us about this great new dining option that will be open "relatively soon" at Fort Wilderness.

His source?

It looks like plans are coming together swiftly for a new dining pavilion at Disney’s Fort Wilderness at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Orlando Business Journal reports that Walt Disney Parks & Resorts is seeking a permit from the South Florida Water Management District for a project that involves more than 3.65 acres of infrastructure “to serve a new dining pavilion building and associated pargo (golf cart) parking at Fort Wilderness,” documents showed. This is great news, as significant changes haven’t really come to the camp site in a while!

It has been reported that the new dining pavilion will be located near Bay Lake and Fort Wilderness’ Settlement Trading Post. A perfect location for families to get together and dine amidst the wonderful natural setting smack-dab in the middle of the Walt Disney World Resort.

No clear timeline has been given, but there’s no doubt Disney should have this new area up and running relatively soon. For all things Walt Disney World, stick with Inside the Magic!

When we were at the Fort back in June I spoke with the Manager of trails end he may have been a little higher up then that. But he was telling me they are trying to get approved a small quick service grill with a few pick nick tables. It would be back near the arcade area going towards river country . He said that was the plan that most likely would go through.  But then he told me there was a much larger plan that he didn't think would happen. I don't remember all the details on the bigger plan.

Great sleuthing all around folks!

So... maybe someone at OBJ ran across some old info and got all excited that they might be breaking a new story? Too bad they didn't check in here first.  ;)

Wouldn't be surprising. Old stories pop up out of nowhere on the web all the time, and if you don't "read.all.the.words." it's easy to miss that it's old news.

It's possible the newspaper confused this with the permit that was recently pulled for the long awaited expansion at MBYMPaC.   Business is booming, and a larger stage area is necessary to accommodate Delsa's new live extravaganza.

How much are you charging at the gate now?

And, one blogger speed reads what another blogger posts, and the story morphs into something different.

Now, a blogger has posted that Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge are getting a new dining pavilion and a new grocery store:

Dining Pavilion & Grocery Store to be Added Soon to Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge

According to bizjournals.com, construction will begin soon on the new dining pavilion for Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Wilderness Lodge.

With the construction of additional Disney Vacation Club units (including cabins) already underway, new dining options and a grocery store will be built to serve the needs of these guests and the existing resorts. We first told you about these dining additions in June of 2015 when the resort expansion project was leaked.

Disney has filed permits with the South Florida Water Management District this week to commence the project.

Ridiculous.

Do you know what $4800 will get you at MBYMPAC?

I am guessing Dave wrote that and it would be something like Mickeys Backyard Massage Parlor and Casino

Now that makes perfect sense "massage parlor and casino" or a New Orleans Square right in Fort Wilderness!

Now this is what I love about Fort Fiends - it starts off with a rumour about a new dining pavilion and winds up at MBYMPAC with cinnamon buns !!!! Thanks heavens - it compensates for all the money grabbing for fast passes at $15/day !!!

Thank you folks - you save my sanity
