I think the buses should have readers since paying guest are paying for the “free transportation “. I know it does not happen a lot , but I’m sure there are many non paying guest that go to one resort or Disney Springs then ride the buses to get to other ones for some reason or maybe just to look around.  It will also save you from paying the parks parking fee   Also non resort guest like to park hop and take the buses   I think the resort monorail should also have a reader

i also think the campfire should be for campers only. It’s not that big and most people ar just rude these days are high makes it twice as bad

I agree that Disney transportation should be for resort guests only.  But it’s not.

Unfortunately,  Disney doesn’t think like us.  The monorails, boats, and buses are open to everyone.   This is from Disney’s website...

Q.

I’m not staying at a Disney Resort hotel. Can I use the monorails, buses and boats to get around Walt Disney World Resort?

A.

Yes. All Guests have complimentary access to our network of monorails, buses and boats. If you would like to visit multiple parks, enjoy a nice dinner at one of the Disney Resort hotels or shop at Disney Springs, you can leave your car parked in the theme park lot and use our transportation network.

Coincidentally, beginning this fall Mickey's Backyard Massage Parlor and Casino will begin offering the Naughtily Ever After Fireworks Dessert Party.  Enjoy a buffet dinner at Minnie's Ho Down Smorgas

Can't change it, can't stop it, enjoy it while you can, that's my plan.

The main point is ALL GUESTS, which would include people with park tickets.

Now I will admit years ago we used to stop by the Fort, take the tram to the settlement, go to the deli that was in the settlement store, get fresh made sandwiches grab sodas, beer, then walk to the lake and have a picnic while the kids swam in the lake.

if we stop at WDW and aren't a resort guest or going to a park, it's usually to see decorations or to eat.  But we would never attempt to use the pools.

No need for MB scanners on bus at Disney springs. They just setup one pedestrian choke point that everyone has to pass to get to the buses. Setup one scanner. I'm sure it wouldn't get all those choosing to steal, but would cut down a lot, with minimal investment.

Would be nice to setup a group of real Fort customers to get to the pavilions at butt crack dawn - 30 minutes and claim them. Im betting that if some of the thieves had their free loading plans ruined, word would get around.

They are not going to set up any magic bands scanners anywhere. Because it’s not against the rules for non-resort guests to use the buses. So basically no one stealing anything.

They have been known to check MB and or Park tickets at DS bus stops, never say never. As Travisma said Guests are those at WDW resorts or with valid park tickets.

As was noted before, the key word is guest.  Freeloaders are not guests. There are not exchanging goods or compensation for the services they are stealing. Disney is for profit. Justify it any way you want, just because Disney does not enforce it, does not forgive the commerce inequity.  Period.

What do you think I’m trying to justify???

I don’t think I’m trying to justify anything.  DISNEY’S website says it’s ok for non-resort guests to use the buses. I didn’t just make this up.   It’s on their website.

BTW.  I’m not now nor have I ever been talking about free loaders, who try to park at Disney Springs to avoid paying for parking at the parks. Or go to the Fort and use the pool.

Would you not say people going to DS are guests?  Not the ones who are just trying to avoid parking fees. But ones who are actually going to shop and/or eat.

As you probably know we have a condo at bonnet creek. There’s been many times I/we have taken an uber and went to a resort had a drink or ate or just walked around and then jumped on a bus/boat/monorail and went to another resort.  We never went to a park and we weren’t staying at a Disney resort.   Was I being a freeloader because I used Disney transportation?  Or do you think Disney considered me a guest at WDW?

All I know there have been times they checked. Maybe your BC room key may have been accepted? Same for people staying on Hotel Row, but I'll wagger 95% of those people also have Park Tickets.

But by eating/drinking/shopping you are compensating Disney for the use of their transportation.

What it all boils down to, is that Disney as we all know doesn't enforce rules equally thoughout their realm.

It's much harder to get into a resort or sneak into their pools than it is for someone coming into the Fort.

How hard would it be to protect the pools at the Fort?  Not too hard, but they don't think it's worth the time or $$.

I agree with you 100%. They definitely need to enforce the pool rules and keep free loaders out.

Disney allows anyone onto their property with the philosophy that they will spend $$ while they are there, or be so entranced that they will book future reservations.

That is good business sense and works out for them one way or another.

But locals coming into the Fort probably spend little or no $$$, based on watching them getting off the internal buses at the meadow loaded down with ice chests and wagons.

What is a pain being a Silver AP Holder, is trying to get to the resorts around holidays to see the different displays like the gingerbread house etc. since our pass won't get us into any of the parks lots during blackout times and they are more strict blocking non resort guests from parking in the hotel lots.

I wonder if the new DVC will improve this situation.  They may want to keep the riff raff away from the DVC and the best way is to keep them out of the campground too.

I have never been checked for a pass on any Disney bus, and that is over the last 23 years.  I do get checked and often rejected from parking at the resorts, including Fort Wilderness.  And that is with a cast silver pass, so it is not like I am avoiding paying a parking fee.  I know from friends in security that they are being quicker to lock down the parking lots at the resorts, including Fort Wilderness.  Ultimately, they need to scan the magic bands at the pool like other resorts.  If they can do it at one location they can do it everywhere.

We've never had a problem getting into any Resort to eat at QS over the Holidays with our Weekday Select pass.

Are the freeloaders parking at the outpost and taking the internal buses to the pools and pavilions?

if so, wouldn’t it be more effective to stop them before they park?

Ditto.  I just pull up and tell them we are going to ? And they tell me to park in a certain area.

But I can imagine they will start cracking down on free (loading) resort parking since they are charging for resort parking.

They are cracking down on the parking, but I've seen people come in on the bus with swimming gear.  The problem is, the transfer to Typhoon Lagoon is at Disney Springs, so people with swimming gear on a bus to or from Disney Springs is not unusual. If they simply enforced it at the pool, it wouldn't take long for people to realize there is no reason to head over.

Wow you are lucky.

We tried to get to the Poly on 7/3 to eat and watch the fireworks and got turned away and we were staying at Riverside.

About a month ago we stopped at the Beach Club to see about getting something to eat.  We were told to park in the left hand lot where it was good for 2 hours, but there were plenty of resort guests parked in there also.

I think this was the first year they actually announced that you had to be a Poly guest to get access to the beach for July 3/4 fireworks.

I'll be curious to see if they do the same for New Years.

For the last several years at the monorail resorts, nobody can get in on Dec 30th and 31st unless a guest or dining reservations.

This morning my wife and I were sitting on the Trails End porch. A group of managers and some non-Disney people walked over from the River Country area. One had plans in his hand. They went into the playground area near Trails End and took a good long look at the playground equipment. They then walked around the Settlement building and then came into the porch looking at the building. One guy mentioned that he was surprised the porch wasn’t full of people since it normally is. I have no idea what they were doing.

I'm surprised there is no discussion of the cr*ppy name they announced for this new resort - " Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge "

Which is horrible.

I didn't mind the name that was being tossed around before, "Disney's Discovery Lodge" - that at least made some sense given the location.

Awful, awful, awful. This whole project makes my stomach turn.

There has already been some discussion about the name on this thread:

I agree with you about the name being horrible- it sounds the name of a Holiday Inn restaurant.
