Gee Nacole why don't you tell us how you really feel.

I agree it is going to ruin one of the main areas of the Fort with the way everything is just being jammed up to the Settlement. It makes me wonder if the long term plan is to take what use to be Fort amenities in that area and reassign them to the DVC.

Yes, I tend to hold back my feelings:P

As for the Fort... I said it earlier.  I think the property's days are numbered

Us too - last time we walked through the Fort (haven't stayed on property in 3 years)  and looked at everything that had changed we just felt sad

Yes.  We don't have the budget to stay on property this year, but we are doing a few day trips to eat and see Fiends.  Change is hard...at least, it's hard for me.  I had pictured coming to the Fort until Tom and I were were (very) old and my children with their children.  I don't see that happening now.  So... I'm trying to keep the memories burned in my mind.  Time goes by too fast and change... it can be hard.

Coincidentally, beginning this fall Mickey's Backyard Massage Parlor and Casino will begin offering the Naughtily Ever After Fireworks Dessert Party.  Enjoy a buffet dinner at Minnie's Ho Down Smorgas

Can't change it, can't stop it, enjoy it while you can, that's my plan.

The plans are to keep the amenities as is.  Reflections will have their own, and better amenities but there will be some increased traffic from there.  That is a concern of some working on this.  The question is, will Fort Wilderness guests be able to walk over to Reflections.  My guess it will be the same as Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness in terms of access; bus/boat and walking.

The area between Mickey's Backyard BBQ and Pioneer Hall is now a construction parking lot:

I took a self-guided tour of the area yesterday. It turns out this parking lot is for Pioneer Hall cast members:

Right after I took that photo, I was harassed by a security cast member who told be I was trespassing. I had to restrain myself from laughing in his face.

But, they had two uniformed security guards keeping an eye on things back here. So be careful.

But I'm sure Fort Campers will not be able to use any of the Reflections amenities (except for ones that you have to pay for).

That's a new sign from when I was there.  I'm glad to see it isn't construction parking.  I assumed it was since there were a couple of cars parked there and some people working in the River Country area.  I wonder if some workers were using it to park.

I figure that the CM lot is now the construction lot. Or it's in the footprint of the new resort.

Is it bad that I laughed out loud, when I read that?  Not sure why but it did make me chuckle :))

When you're on the WL bus, after it starts making the curve by the barn, on the right behind the barn was a parking lot.  It was full on Sunday.

I know they plan to tear down the barn... but they'll have to build a new one first.  Right??

PHOTOS: Demolition Begins at Former River Country Water Park Site for New Reflections Resort

March 12, 2019
Photo-Mar-10-11-47-28-PM-990x556.jpg

The first signs of demolition have been spotted at the old location of Disney’s River Country water park. There are two excavator’s stationed within the old water park, however most of the site still appears to be intact at the moment. The demolition will make way for an all new Disney Vacation Club Resort called “Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Resort”.

The old entrance to Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is fenced off and no longer accessible to guests. There are walls up beyond that where the construction site begins.

On Bay Lake, the first signs of demolition are visible. Two excavators (that ironically say “Piece of Mind”) are stationed on the site.

There is also a solar powered camera in place across the lake on the old Discovery Island. It is pointed at the River Country construction site.

Upon returning from my trip out to the site, i spotted a construction crew heading out for the day on a boat of their own.

Wow.

I am trying to process this. Is the building I've marked with the purple arrow the Settlement Trading Post?

IMG_4191_zpsv2r8iylg.jpg

I think it is.

And I think I might cry.

I compared this to the satellite image on Google Maps.  It sure looks like that is the Settlement Trading Post and the purple building is Pioneer Hall.

That's what I was afraid of. If this is for real, then this project has shifted way further east than the previous plans, and the entire Settlement area as we know it is going to be gone and consumed by the new resort.

I don't know if I should cry or throw up.  This is enormous.   Someone earlier was talking about how may more people will be there - this looks like 5,000 or 6,000 capacity easily.  And when did the cabins get added?  I don't remember them from any earlier proposals?

So what are those structures then on Clementine's Beach?  Do you think Fort guests are losing access to Clementine's Beach?  Will it be part of the new resort?

The A frame structures look like the buildings on the west side of the project. I'm guessing these are DVC villas. But then there are five or so brown buildings further back. Are those Fort Wilderness style cabins?  Sure looks like it.

Whatever is going on there, it looks like the entire length of Clementine's Beach is being taken over by the new resort.

That is pure and unnecessary greed.

OMG, I am catching up and I just read through this.  Even as a DVC member, I am about to throw up.

It's funny you mention the DVC perspective. I didn't like the old plans, but at least there was separation between it and the Settlement, and I thought the Settlement would still feel like the Settlement. For the first time ever, I thought I might buy in to the DVC. It would be cool to stay at this resort and be able to walk over to the Settlement.

But this new plan totally erases the Settlement and makes it part of the resort. I'm sure it will be very nice, but I can't see myself sitting on the Crockett's Tavern porch and looking at all of this. No thanks.

I had the old plans in my head before I read the latest plans.  Now I am just sad and disappointed.  I swear I was sick to my stomach.  We love staying at OKW, but it is a different experience than camping at the Fort or anywhere else.  I am in no mood to mix the two honestly.

The buildings on Clementine's beach look smaller than the "villas" over on Cypress Point. I'm guessing cabanas or play areas.

One thing I see, it looks like the resort gets it's own dock. But are they gonna get new boats?

The boats are stretched thin as it is. Especially when one goes in for refurbishment.

The "Slow Boats" won't cut it.
