I'm saying they are the minority compared to others who live in the area. Spend 4 months there at a time like we did and you will see. Same cars, RV's and people weekend after weekend.

I agree. I like to chat with people. Almost 100% of the time when I talk to people at the pool on the weekends, they are locals taking advantage of WDW amenities. We have learned to stay away from the pool on Saturdays and Sunday late afternoons.

Coincidentally, beginning this fall Mickey's Backyard Massage Parlor and Casino will begin offering the Naughtily Ever After Fireworks Dessert Party.  Enjoy a buffet dinner at Minnie's Ho Down Smorgas

Can't change it, can't stop it, enjoy it while you can, that's my plan.

Of course those people are local...local freeloaders!  Lol!

And The Fort is different from any other "local" private campground,  regional, state or national park campground on the weekend how?  Just because it's on Disney property somehow elevates it to some "exclusive" level? I think not.....it's a campground.  It just so happens to have some unique amenities that if you can pay the price you have the right to use them. As you travel around the country just check into a local KOA on the weekend and you'll be surrounded by the same "weekend warriors" all having the same wonderful break as you are from their crazy workweek life. No difference except maybe the price. Whether its a campground or hotel the "locals" are always going to be there on the weekend enjoying themselves. That's life and it's pretty sweet!

Not gonna wade into the argument, I'm just going to jump in with both feet.

The issue isn't with Florida residents, or even local residents, that are paying to stay at the fort. The big issue that has always been a problem at this location is locals coming in to the resort (yes, I will use that word) and utilizing the amenities - the pools, sports/recreation areas, and free parking for WDW - without paying to stay there. For a long time it has been a not-so-secret spot for CM's, CM's families and other locals 'in the know' to come and freeload. Try using the Meadows pool on a weekend, and good luck grabbing a pavilion in the rec area. It's also an issue with 'guests' in some of the loops - having way more than the allowed number of people staying there while Disney turns a blind eye.

I don't think anyone here has an issue with people that have paid to be there, no matter where they are from.

CM's can use the pool at any resort so to me that is a non issue. As to the guests the limit is only for overnight not visitors. So if a paid guest invites 20 people to a party they are not violating anything, which is what happens at the pavillions.

Shoreline99-point well made. True it is no secret that anyone can park for free at Disney Springs, hop a bus to The Fort, and have access to all the amenities. Hopefully someday security will tighten the bus transportation up. Magic Band swipes would sure help at the transportation centers and The Fort pools. But I guess sadly it’s all about the money.

From my understanding anyone, resort guests, locals, whoever, can use any amenities at any resort they want to except the swimming pools.  Unless your a dvc owner  then you can pool hop to certain resort pools

And with exception of the Beach club the pools are not really monitored.

And IMHO. The pools should be for resort guests only.  And CMs. they deserve all the perks they can get.

Back in the primordial days of WDW  resort guests (including the Fort) were issued a paper transportation card.  At least one person in your party had to show that card to utilize the buses and boats.  They had your check out date on them, and the drivers and captains would check them and deny you access if you tried to use one past that date.

And there used to be a guard shack on Vista Blvd coming from Bonnet Creek Pky.  They would stop all vehicles if you didn't have a parking pass.  You had to have a good reason for trying to get past them.

Agree x 2.  Back in the 80s, when we traveled with our in-laws in their Class A to the Fort, my FIL would drive in on Vista and would be stopped.  He had to show our FW reservations.  Yes, we also were issued transportation cards on arrival and did need show them to board transportation.  I do not understand why WDW has not put Magic Band readers on their transportation, other than it could possibly slow down boarding on all vehicles.  Given the large crowds present now in the parks at almost every time of year, and with more rooms coming on line, checking MBs to board could lead to delays making the guests unhappy.  (Have you heard the grumbles in line from visitors when someone else "forgets" to fold a stroller?)

Because of the cost for us to stay at the Fort and my DW likes room service. LOL. We’ve been staying at Wyndham bonnet creek and Disney resorts for the last couple of years. I have not noticed this at other Disney resorts but is there a problem with free loaders Parking for free at the fort and using Disney transportation to avoid having to pay the parking fees at the parks?

Ahh the good ol days, when all you had to do was stop by the guard shack and tell them you were having a "character breakfast" at the Poly and would get access to free parking, pools, etc.

You can still do that. In May I went to the Poly told them we were going to Trader Sam’s, and they let us park for free.   We went to trader Sam’s but before that we went out to the pool and had a drink poolside.

Depends on what is going on at the parks.  I've seen lots of cars turned away from that lot and others.

Pioneer Hall is probably the oldest building on property.  The back side is a jumbled mess, currently blocked from view from the ground by trees and a big brown fence.  I think they will have the same issue with visibility from a 7th floor room as with the barn and predict Pioneer Hall is razed and HDDR moved into a new theater in the resort.  I don't know if Trails End would get resurrected.

Hi, everyone.

Just read this. Hadn't thought about it. Good Lord, this would be devastating.

And it's probably true.

last week we drove over from Tampa to have dinner at ohanas.  When we pulled up to the poly we had our AP magic bands on since we were heading to Epcot after dinner (driving to Epcot).  The guard said thanks for having our magic bands and scanned them for our dinner reservations.  He said they are cracking down on resort free parking  I agree to put magic ban readers on all buses

on another note, thank you shoreline99 for your awesome post   Yes, I am somewhat a local, but when we visit for a day to a park, we don’t take any advantage of a resort.

When we are lucky to get a campground for a weekend trip, which is usually never nowadays, we should be treated like every other paying camper.  I agree the people who are true freeloaders should be stopped, but if we pay we shouldn’t be looked upon as freeloading locals

Agree...locals who pays to stay at the Fort or any resort should be treated like any paying guest.

As a two or three time a year non-local visitor I don’t understand what the issue is with the buses???

Also, besides the swimming pools what are non-paying “locals” & non-resort guests taking advantage of at the Fort and other resorts?

Not being argumentative, i truely don’t know what is going on???

Mainly clogging up the pool and getting there at the butt crack of dawn to grab the pavilions.  Sometimes the campfire/movie program is mobbed.

I think the biggest complaint is the pool usage, how easy it is for non guests to utilize it, and management not doing anything to stop it.  They know it's a problem and they could easily fix it with a fence and MB readers at the gates or CMs scanning bands.  It's a lot harder to get into other resorts and try to use the pools.

Thank you for explaining the problem.

So in your ipinion the buses really isnt an issue?

We were staying at Pop Century a few weeks ago and a kid wasn’t wearing a swim diaper and had an accident in the main pool. The recreation CM told us that we could use one of the other pools. And then whispered to us that we could go across the bridge and use the Art of Animation main pool.  I said “don’t they have MB readers?”  She said yes but not at every gate.   So we went over there. It’s a really cool pool.

BTW. Did you know the campfire at the Fort is open to anyone?  Fort guest, Disney resort guest, and non-disney resort guest?

IMHO. The campfire should be for Fort guests only.  But that’s just my opinion.

I think the buses should have readers since paying guest are paying for the “free transportation “. I know it does not happen a lot , but I’m sure there are many non paying guest that go to one resort or Disney Springs then ride the buses to get to other ones for some reason or maybe just to look around.  It will also save you from paying the parks parking fee   Also non resort guest like to park hop and take the buses   I think the resort monorail should also have a reader

i also think the campfire should be for campers only. It’s not that big and most people ar just rude these days are high makes it twice as bad
