Does this add or take away from the experience?

Disney is getting ready to introduce automated cameras that will take your picture, instead of PhotoPass photographers at select meet and greet locations.  An automated camera will be positioned in the room to take photos of your interaction with the characters.

To start, there will be 9 different meet and greet locations that will be using the automated cameras, and will debut in early 2019.

Disney will continue to have over 100 locations where Disney PhotoPass photographers will capture photos. The new automated cameras will capture moments of the experience from start to finish to allow guests to receive a wider variety of photos from which to choose than before.

I know there was a lot of backlash to it the other day.  I see both sides.  One: Disney wants to speed the process at certain locations and automate things for a smoother line process.  However, you then have that whole "my experience is lessened" quality thing about it.  It is like the automatic Walmart checkout.  If I wanted to check myself out at Walmart, I would have stayed home and had it delivered.

I think it will result in lower quality photos with lots of backs of kids heads. With a real photographer they can stop their shot or take a another if something goes wrong. They also have a better chance of catching a special moment. While it might speed up the process sometimes quality should triumph over quantity. In the end it is just more indication that Disney is being run by bean counters and not visionaries.

Sounds like the camera is going to just take a bunch of pictures.   And then you can decide which one(s) you like.   Sounds like we are going to have a bunch of crap pictures to sort through.

Can I still hand my iPhone to the automatic photopass machine to get a personal pic.  If not, it's a deal breaker.

I think someone mentioned earlier the character Escort can still take pics for you.

Think of all the money Disney won't have to spend by not having humans taking the photos.

I do not like the auto pay stations, and it does real people out of jobs.
