With the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park edging ever closer, lots of news is brewing. We now know specifics about ride details, merchandise, and food and beverage offerings in the new land. Disneyland Park Cast Members recently got a unique preview of what the costumes across Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will look like, as well:

Soon, we will have an idea of when we will actually get to see the land (or at least start getting in line for it). After years of announcements and months of close anticipation, an official opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (at least for Disneyland, possibly also for Disney World) will reportedly be released this Thursday, March 7th during the Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of Shareholders at 11:00 AM EST.

For those wondering why Florida might end up wrapped up in this announcement, it’s because things have supposedly gone very well as of late for the Disney’s Hollywood Studios version of the land. If sources are to be believed, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in Florida in September/October, with preview events set to start in late July. A lot still has to go right for this to happen, but it sounds likely.

Per Bob Iger, the Disneyland Park land will open officially in June.

"Walt Disney World’s version will debut a couple months later on August 29, 2019. However, it will open in phases, with Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run opening first, followed by Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at a later date. (As we cover in our Tons of New Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Details Emerge from Construction Tours post, Rise of the Resistance is the more complex, higher profile attraction.)"

Ideas on impact on crowds mid-September vs mid-October?  I'm talking WDW crowds in general not Star Wars crowds.

The article also says "We do not for a second expect Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or Animal Kingdom will see a dip in attendance once Galaxy’s Edge opens. To the contrary, they should each see a slight bump. First, very few people are going to plan a trip to Florida, and only do Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Second, those who aren’t huge Star Wars fans might look at DHS wait times and alter their plans to avoid that park. Finally, people will not have a choice if/when DHS hits capacity."  There's also the paid FP to avoid standing in line that was mentioned in another thread.

This is the official announcement on Disney Parks Blog Page

https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2019/03/star-wars-galaxys-edge-to-open-may-31-at-disneyland-resort-august-29-at-disneys-hollywood-studios/

This is a part of it

Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in California between May 31 and June 23, 2019 will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date on Disneyland.com and the Disney Parks Blog. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.

A reservation will not be offered or required to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Walt Disney World Resort at this time.  And you should know that valid theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge after its opening on August 29, 2019. Capacity is limited.  Additionally, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be available during Extra Magic Hours. During Extra Magic Hours guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can spend extra time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios enjoying select attractions.  Details will also be available at a later date on Disneyworld.com and the Disney Parks Blog.

And if there are sneak peeks I'm sure Silver Passholders will get screwed over again like they did for Toy Story.  Especially since it's in our blackout time.

Has anyone else heard the rumor that the two new rides will not be part of the regular Fastpass system for the first few months of operation?

TCD

At least one ride will not have fast pass.

So is this insinuating that APs may be blocked from getting into HS?

I think it just means due to fire codes only so many in at a time. They have more space at WDW than DL though. dL is going to be on a reservation basis. No cost to reserve a time to go but their method of controlling the crowds for it.

This is for Disneyland, not sure if the same will hold true for WDW, but more than a little surprising.  I'd have thought if anything they could have charged more for VIP tours with access to SW...

VIP Tours Will Not Have Access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for the First Few Months at Disneyland

by MIKE

We’ve been told that Disney has finalized their plans with regards to how they will handle VIP Tours during the free reservation period when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disneyland.

From May 31st to June 23rd, VIP Tours will not be allowed inside the new land. The only guests who will be allowed into the land are those that have secured a free reservation either with their hotel stay or via the signup period that Disney has yet to announce. That essentially means that guests will not be able to “buy” their way into the land by booking a VIP Tour.

Beginning on June 24th, which is the end of the reservation period, VIP Tours will once again be allowed into the land and they will be able to “ensure that you have a minimal wait during your Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge experience”.

VIP Tours will still be offered for the rest of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure at a peak price of $600 per hour between May 31st and June 23rd.

There has been a lot of speculation about this on both coasts with Disney not divulging, until now apparently for DL, what they would do. Kind of a bummer. There are a bunch of MC's going to be there at WDW opening day and we were considering it. Hopefully the same will not hold true for WDW.

Put on a dress and pretend to be a mommy blogger, then you are sure to get in at the front of the line!

What’s an MC?
