28,000 jobs to be cut. Calif is being blamed

Article in Orlando Sentinel this morning says 8,857 more cast let go.  They are part-time union cast members.  So that is over 15,000 employees from Disney World.  Now I guess the full time cast will get their cuts.  Disney will expect those workers who are still there to cover all the work the laid off/fired cast won't be there to do.  But at the same pay.

They are part of the original 28,000 that DIS said would be laid off corporate wide. Since Newsom has now guaranteed an extended shut-down in Calif along with the Cruise Lines being dry docked by the CDC it will probably get worse.

I’ll say it again… Instead of cutting entertainment, employees, etc. cut the prices of their tickets. They’re giving us a subpar product and still charging the same price.    It will bring

There is a lot of bitterness among the fired/laid off cast, i don't think a lot of them will even want to go back to WDW. I don't know if it is alright to post this here so, if not, take it down.

People aren't traveling. due to COVID, it has nothing to do with WDW prices.  DIS took a big financial hit because DL is still closed and DCL is shutdown as well.

Yes more is on the way. Disney now will take advantage of the circumstances to gut the union workers. Dumping non-union employees first helps with the optics, but this is their chance to decimate the union and you can bet they will. More money for the executives and shareholders, and more castmembers kicked to the curb.

Walt Disney World as we knew it is gone for good.

Of course because why would they ever bother compensating people for the work they do.- unless you're an executive !!!

Because destroying the union is a sure way to drive down the wages and leave "More money for the executives and shareholders,"

 -  as if 2020 hasn't been bad enough watching what is happening to all the cart members we've come to know over the years is so depressing

Cast Member Union Blames State, Federal Officials for Layoffs not DISNEY

"those getting laid off held recall rights on their job for up to two years, and that is a deal these employees can brag about."

Why do you think Disney hasn’t moved into phase 3???

Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has also moved the Sunshine State into Phase 3 of reopening which stated, “Theme parks may return to normal operations with limited social distancing protocols.” Keep in mind, however, that Disney World operations have not changed, despite the go-ahead from DeSantis.

Could be a number of reasons.  Since they already cancelled MNSSHP and MVMCP and all the non-resident EPCOT employees are still out of pocket, it's not like they can just throw open the gates and expect the same attendance as usual.  Just because Florida opened up, doesn't mean the virus is not still ravaging the world.  Many, many people don't have the spare money to get to a vacation this year, either.  The Theme Parks certainly don't want to go full operational just to have to close down again because of another outbreak in the area, or just to have employees standing around with no guests to take care of.

Our SeaWorld here in San Antonio is trying their best to recover, but attendance is not maxing out on any date so far.

What a stupid thing to brag about. The chance to be recalled to a part time job that pays a bit over minimum wage with no benefits?  Gee, I’ll bet those castmembers are glad about all the union dues they paid for the union to cave in and kiss Disney’s ass. I’m sure the part time workers all have huge savings accounts they can live off while they’re waiting around for two years to be recalled.

Disney is doing exactly what they want to do. Their financial experts made a long term plan, and it’s playing out beautifully for them. Plenty of revenue is rolling in, and they are slashing expenses everywhere they can. It’s a brilliant plan. Money grubbing and heartless, but brilliant.
