This seems to be related to the construction at the GF, but straight from the Mouse's mouth...

"To accommodate planned maintenance and nearby construction, we will be

temporarily adjusting the operating schedule for the monorail system.

Beginning March 2, monorail service on the Magic Kingdom Resort and

Express beams will be temporarily suspended during non-peak times, between

11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. During this time, watercraft (where applicable) *and

additional buses* will be available to transport Guests to their

destinations. Weather permitting, we expect this work to be complete before

the end of the month. "

They still look cool.

This announcement is really raising a ruckus with a lot of people, not on here though. Fiends are smarter than that

Tons of people saying that the only reason they book at a monorail resort is because of the monorail and now they won't be able to use it for part of the day.

Of course I'm going to say they're idiots. It's a slow, stinky bus on a cement track, but it's cool looking.

Come on, that monorail takes you to only one of the parks, that's it. They will still have it during peak times, not to mention the boats and buses.

Not that any of those people read a bulletin board based around a lowly campground, but if they accidentally find themselves here, I say, get over it. You're at WDW.

But Louuuuuu... that's truly the reason why somebody would pay more to stay at CR, GF, or the Poly instead of YC/BC - which amenity for amenity has way more to offer plus prime location to 2 parks instead of just MK.

Bottom line IMO, as long as wdw sells that cool looking non-bus on rails as an amenity, instead of an attraction, these complaints are sure to happen when it isn't useable - even if it's for a short time when most everyone is asleep anyway.

They booked their resort for that cool looking transport so they didn't have to wait in line for a bus. I bet some of them never even considered they'd need a bus to get to the other parks anyway. For a lot of newbies, that detail's hidden in the fine print the way MR resorts are currently being sold...

and hey, did I mention it just plain looks cool?? :rofl2: :rofl3: :rofl2:

Update from WDW Magic...

Monorail beam closures update

Mar 13, 2012

A quick update on the monorail closures taking place between 11:30am and 6pm through to the end of the month. Reports from the last few days have indicated that although the monorail is listed as being closed during those times, it is at times operating during that planned closed window. So if you are planning to move around property between 11:30am to 6pm, do check to see if in fact the monorail is running.

Further update from WDW Magic...

Monorail beam closures update

Mar 14, 2012

It looks as though things have gone quicker than expected over at the Grand Floridian construction site, and the monorail beam daytime closures are now scheduled to end after today. This means that from tomorrow (March 15 2012), the monorail should return to its regular operating hours. No word yet on whether any future closings will be required due to the construction project.

From the Touring Plans blog...

On April 13th guests scheduled to stay at Walt Disney World’s Polynesian resort in late April began receiving letters stating the monorail system would be closed “during non peak times” of the day during their stay. This appears to be a continuation of the earlier March system closures related to the construction of the new Disney Vacation Club Resort at the Grand Floridian Resort that was ended earlier than originally scheduled.

The earliest check-in date for a guest that has received notice we have right now is April 30th. If you have an earlier check-in date and have received a letter, please let us know in the comments.
