Cheap plastic Mickey medals brings out the worst in people.

Foul, foul, foul, I'm calling for the "Mickey Cheap Plastic Medal" judge to rule on this bogus and outrages medal fraud. I say they're pity medals and should be disallowed as real cheap Mickey plastic

I may not read TRs but I sometimes look at the photos. Uh, whadya think, I'm blind? Did I notice, of course I did. But I have to ask the obvious question.

Okay, you talked me into registering and commenting too! ;D I have been lurking for a couple months because I don't have a camper and haven't been tent camping in quite some time, so currently I'm not even a camper. But reading all these trip reports has really got me wanting to go to FW, even if it's just in a tent. I miss Disney! It's been 3 years since we've been and I'm trying to save up so we can go in a few months. Not sure if we'll be able to stay at the Fort or not.

I am enjoying your trip report of your cruise! You have a great looking family and y'all are so fun! DCL sounds like a blast! I have only been on Carnival.

YES!!!!!

That is what I'm talking about!

Good job there Southern Blessings!

Welcome!

I think a lot of us began our visits to the Fort in a tent.

I know that I did.

And look at me now!

If you are going to tent camp, I can't think of an easier place to do it.

We have cruised on Carnival before. Nothing wrong with that.

I am really glad that you decided to join. Thanks for taking the plunge.

I just love all the new members we are getting! Not lurking is so much more fun. Hope you can get to the Fort soon!

Check it out, all you other lurkers.

You see what kind of welcome you get?

And, Doodle here used to be a lurker.

Look at her now.

So, what are you waiting for?

I'd love to see a couple more folks join the gang.

.... even if it's just in a tentl.

Cool! Welcome to the greatest board ever....SB.

There's no such thing as "just in a tent. ". If you're staying at the Fort, your accommodations don't matter. It's a great place to meet people and have fun

WELCOME ABOARD!!! :wave1:

Great update Andrew! Lil H would love having his artwork on a giant screen. Another selling point for a Disney Cruise. The cartwheel in the atrium and lighted ice cube photos belong in the archives with another famous photo that shall remain nameless. :rofl2: Just kidding. It's great to see y'all having such an awesome time!

Very well said.

Once you're at the Fort, you're at the Fort. Where you sleep makes no difference to anyone.

That moving artwork stuff is just on the Fantasy, not the Dream. So make sure to book the right ship.

That is a good idea about the (in)famous photo archives.

We did have an awesome time, and thanks for reading along!

OK, the rewind is over.

The other Dream's leaving also opened up our view of the Atlantis resort. Those big buildings over there are it. If you like gaudy casinos, that's your place. Otherwise, don't bother:

Andrew,

I take you have been to Atlantis before? I hear ya. We went there for 5 days back in 05 for a work convention. Needless to say, when the entire trip was funded by work, we had a blast. When we were there, you had to pay for everything via your door card key similar to the KTTW cards. This was very dangerous drinking tropical drinks at $14.00 a pop all day. Again, it's a blast when it's someones else money. All in all on that trip, one thing will prevent us from ever returning. On our second to last night, about 3 am a stranger had entered our room. As fast as that person startled me out of a sound sleep he was gone. About 2 minutes later the front desk called stating our room door was open and not locked. I told the front desk what transpired and they could have really cared less. Needless to say my wife and myself were freaked out the next day until we left. I believe there was something shady about the whole thing. the next day I even noticed motion sensors in our room. What the heck would those be good for. Once again, if someone else is paying for an Atlantis trip, and you enjoy strangers in the middle of the night, game on. the place is totally beautiful though. We are glad we got to experience it at least once. Seeing co-workers throughout our company drunk and screeming they were going to die on the slides were the highlight of our trip.

A++ on the TCD cartwheel photos! I'm impressed.

Like someone said earlier, I do not like getting off the ship and wading through the sea of locals "Braid your hair, pretty lady" but once through that, there is some really neat stuff to see.

My first Bahamas visit was the stores, markets, Senior Frogs..... Bleh, not too impressed.

The last few times, we toured around the historical stuff. Queen's Staircase, Fort Fincastle & the water tower. We took an OLD rickety boat over to Atlantis and saw the Versailles Gardens and The Cloisters. I enjoyed that much more.

I haven't got suckered into paying for a song, but I did end up with 3 crappy wooden flutes from a cute little boy. Those Bahamians are not stupid. ::)

Love the photo of The TCD Pirate woman!

At some point I expect to see a photo of TCD wearing one of those cheap plastic Mickey medals that he won for achieving some super human feat.

That's a challenge because if he doesn't, I will have to post one that a certain Fiend won on their recent cruise aboard the Dream.

Not saying who it is, but TCD will not be a happy camper if and when he sees who it is.

Man, don't fall behind on the TCD TR's. I am finally caught up again. Whew!

I took a few days off because i had cruise envy. I have been on only one cruise. It was on the Dolphin IV on the Cae Canavereal Cruise Line. Haven't heard of it? That is because they went belly up. Still, it was my only cruise and I loved it. You can read my review here: http://www.cruiseserver.net/travelpage/yourfav/yfc_ca_dolph_7.asp

I probably would have braved the crowds in Nassau, if only to get my hair braided. I love having my hair corn rowed - not getting it done (ouch!), but having it finished and braided back so i don't have to do anything to it for weeks. Love that.

Welcome Southern Blessings! :welcome2: There are a few of us from SC. I live in the Upstate area. We tent camped when we went to FW and it was our best trip ever. Plus, it led to me finding FF.net. :)

Time to dust off this report, and get it moving again!

Yes, we have been to Atlantis a few times on previous cruises. The first time we visited, which wasn't long after it opened, you could walk around the grounds freely. There are some very interesting aquariums around the place, and a lot of other things to see. It also has a decent beach. On our next and subsequent visits, we found that they had really restricted where visitors could go at the resort. We have friends who enjoy the casino, so we visited the casino with them and had lunch in one of the restaurants on one of our cruises. Atlantis is nice, but it's a hassle to get there, and if I want to go to a casino, I can do that at home. They do have some cool slides at their pool, which is a lot like a waterpark, but you have to buy a day pass or book a night at the hotel to use it. Not worth it, in my opinion.

I hear you about being freaked out by someone entering your room at 3 am. That is one of the kinds of things that makes me want to stay on the ship when we visit ports. You have to figure that tourists are easy targets for any bad guys who live on those islands.

I am caught up again!

I have a question. Y'all don't look red-faced and sweaty, was it hot?

Yes, it was hot.

But, you get a great breeze up on deck, and the clouds kept things manageable on our first CC visit.

A++ on the TCD cartwheel photos! I'm impressed.

Hey, I have three crappy wooden flutes from a previous visit to Nassau! Maybe we can start a band!

Frank was telling me about that staircase and Fort. I would like to see it some time. Maybe on my next visit.

And now we know why TCD is known as the Rock Star. Two first time posters on one TR. :insanity: It is hard to beat a TCD TR but we have many members here keeping TCD on his game. :)

Yeah, Yeah.

You are right, I'm a Rock Star.

But, you are also right that there are many other great trip reports here.

At some point I expect to see a photo of TCD wearing one of those cheap plastic Mickey medals that he won for achieving some super human feat.

Lou, don't you know that TCD never forgets?

I remember very well who won a medal on previous Dream cruise and how he won it.

I think there was a drawing class on our cruise, but we did not attend.

It wasn't on the LOF.

Sounds like it's smack down time.

Everybody loves a good smack sown

True.

Bring it.

Our one and only cruise was on the Sovereign of the Seas! We thought we were on the caddy of the seas until Disney pulled in to the dock beside us in Nassau. I've had cruise ship envy since then. It was still a blast and we've talked about doing it again ever since. Did you try the coco locos on Coco Cay?

Sovereign of the Seas was a great ship.

I remember that we were in Nassau on it once when the Wonder was there, and you are right about the cruise ship envy.

I remember Coco Cay. NIce place. That's where the old photo I posted earlier was taken. Castaway Cay blows that place away.

As jealous as I am that you get so much mouse action, I'm always THRILLED to read your TRs!!

Olivia!

Great to see a post from you.

I am happy that you are reading along.

Does this mean that their is a Fort trip in your near future?

Man, don't fall behind on the TCD TR's. I am finally caught up again. Whew!

Hey, Marty.

I read your cruise review. It sounds like you had a great time. Before Disney came along, we took our oldest DD on a couple of cruises on the Big Red Boat, which used smaller, older ships. I am telling you, you would not believe what these Disney ships are like. It is a totally different experience. Maybe somthing like comparing a Motel 6 to the Grand Floridian.

OK, we are caught up and ready to move forward.

It is night three of the cruise.

Sunday night. We were in port in Nassau all day, but didn't leave the ship.

Tonight's dinner assignment was the Enchanted Garden restaurant.

Since it was Pirate Night, all of the restaurants have the same menu this night. Not to worry, since this is a five night cruise, we will have the regular Enchanted Garden menu the next night.

Here were the choices for tonight:

Appetizers

Black Beard's Jumbo Crab Cake - with golden raisin-carrot and coconut slaw served with a spicy Calypso dressing

Pirates Golden "Pot Stickers" - oriental pork "dumplings" deep fried and served with a tamarind-ginger soy sauce and pickled vegetables

The Buccaneer's Sun-Ripened Pineapple - fresh island pineapple with a coconut covered banana and orange glaze

Pearls of the Caribbean - crabmeat, shrimp and salmon mixed in pearls of couscous with lemon grass infused vinaigrette

Soups and Salads

Chilled-to-the-bone Honeydew Melon and Watermelon Soup

Caribbean-style Conch Chowder - with sherry, sweet peppers, onions, tomatoes, thyme, and garnished with diced potatoes and crispy bacon bits

Jerk Chicken Salad - jerk-seasoned chicken strips over fresh crispy greens with a citrus dressing and plantain chips

Mr. Smee's Bibb Lettuce Salad - with bibb lettuce, baby greens, chicory, tomatoes, toasted pine nuts and raspberry vinaigrette

Main Course

Castaway Chicken Breast - rubbed with Pirate Island Spice, rice and beans, and fried okra on rich spiced glaze

Jolly Rogers Barbecue Rib Salad - Shredded cabbage, carrots, and corn mixed with Romaine lettuce and fresh parsley with a spicy baked bean dressing

Treasures of the Seas Grilled Shrimp and Seared Scallops - served on strings of pasta and fresh creamy tomato sauce

Jack Sparrow's Barbecue Marinated Beef Short Ribs - Rubbed beef short rips with tamarind-barbecue sauce and served with onion red bliss mashed potatoes and plantain chip

Sunken Vegetable Treasure - Black-eyed pea and quinoa croquettes with a mushroom sauce

Captain Hook's Macadamia Nut-dusted Mahi Mahi - Jasmine rice and sautéed pineapple on a mild curry sauce

The Dutchmen's Dijon-Crusted Sirloin of Beef - thick cut of beef with oven-roasted sweet potatoes and a black spot tomato with deep red wine glaze

Tiger Lilie's Savory Pancakes - stuffed with tofu, spinach, and lashed to the deck on a pool of pepper coulis

Baked Salmon and Oven-roasted Chicken Breast available upon request

It all sounded good.

From what I have heard, the gimmick in the Enchanted Garden is that you are supposed to feel like you are dining in an ornate garden, and the atmosphere changes from day to evening when you are there. I didn't know about that on our first visit here, and didn't notice any of that. It is possible that they only go through the show on one of your visits there, The problem with us is that our table was off to the side, and all of the show elements were in the center part of the room.

Truthfully, I didn't realize that there was a show, so I didn't care. Go with the flow.

On some of our previous cruises, people really went overboard on Pirate night with dressing up and costumes. They give you a bandana to wear, so that was pretty much all we did. Except, I did break out my pirate goofy ears for the photo:

IMG_2912.jpg

IMG_2913.jpg

I guess here would be a good spot to say something that I really enjoy about cruising. I enjoy having an assigned table and an assigned time to be there. You can just walk in, sit down, and the service begins immediately. As I mentioned earlier, we had taken a trip to the beach earlier this summer. Going out to dinner at night was such a drag, because it meant deciding on a place and then going there and having to wait for a table and often experiencing spotty service. Not so on a cruise. It's great. Especially if you have a larger party.

As for the food that evening, I know that I tried three of the appetizers, which we shared at the table, and both the short ribs and mahi mahi. All of it was excellent.

I regret to say that there do not appear to be any food photos from that night, except for these two from Twin #1's dessert:

IMG_4119.jpg

IMG_4120.jpg

We did not linger after dinner.

It was pirate night.

That meant more festivites up on the top deck, plus fireworks.

On a Disney cruise, you will hear about 100 times how Disney is the only cruise line allowed to shoot off fireworks at sea.

The Pirate stuff was going to begin at 10:15, and run until 11. Then we planned to hit the Aqua Duck at 11 and ride it until midnight.

That meant that we would be wearing our swimsuits to the Pirate party.

It also meant that none of us brought a camera up top.

So, there are no photos of Pirate night.

When we hit the cabins after dinner to change into our suits, we were greeted with chocolate coins and a monkey:

IMG_4121.jpg

IMG_2187.jpg

I am sorry that no one brought a camera up top, but since the plan was to hit the Aqua Duck right after, there was no place to stow a camera.

It's too bad, too, because a couple of epic things happened.

There was dancing, and fireworks.

Lots of both.

And there was also a big buffet.

Yes, we had just eaten dinner.

But, they had a giant buffet set up in Cabanas.

On our other cruises, the buffet has been set up on the deck itself.

Putting it in Cabanas is a better idea. But none of us went in there.

Well, that is until Frank came out with something important to report.

He had spotted turkey legs.

Do you remember that there was something about turkey legs on the LOF?

Well, there was.

Why?

Like a lot of the things on there, there is a story behind that.

It goes like this:

The TCD girls love the turkey legs they have at WDW. When they were little, we used to buy one and share it. Which is pretty gross if you think about it. But we did. As the girls got older, they started to prefer other snacks. Except for Twin #2. One of Twin #2's favorite treats at WDW is to have a turkey leg all to herself. She will make a meal out of one. The girl loves turkey legs. On our first DCL cruise, back in 2004, she spotted someone eating a turkey leg on pirate night. She actually went up to the person and asked where he got it. He told her. She went to get one, and they were all gone! On our next cruise, in 2005, she planned carefully to snag a turkey leg, and she did. Same thing in 2008. I even have a photo from that cruise showing the TCD twins gnawing on their turkey legs:

2008DisneyCruise451.jpg

So, what's the bit about mom having to carry two on the LOF? Well, on our last cruise before this one, in 2009, the TCD twins snagged a couple of turkey legs from the pirate night buffet. But, they were too full to eat them, so the plan was to stash them in the fridge in the room and eat them later. But, they were too busy dancing to carry their turkey legs so they passed them off to Mrs. TCD. One of Mrs. TCD's stories from that cruise is how she had to carry those two turkey legs down to our cabin and stow them in the fridge. Apparently, they were really hot, and were burning and dripping all over her hands as she carried them, and they stunk up the elevator and our cabin. She said people were staring at her and commenting the whole time. So, in the days leading up to this trip, she told the girls that they would have to carry their own turkey legs this time. Of course, Twin #1, being the smart aleck that she is, put it on the LOF.

So, that's the turkey leg story.

And, on this thrid night of our cruise, Twin #1 and I did grab two turkey legs and gave them to Mrs. TCD. We all laughed. They were hot and drippy, so we put them on a plate, and covered them with a napkin, and set them on a nearby counter for later.

Then, the dancing continued.

The whole top deck was full of people dancing.

Us old folks kind of stood off to the side to watch.

At just a bit before 11, Twin #1 came up to me and said, "Pappy, it's time." She didn't need to say more. I said, hop on. And we were off.

It was time for a conga line!

We weaved into the crowd.

We had timed this just right.

People were ready to conga.

Our line grew and grew.

Even the castmembers joined in.

There had to be a hundred people in this conga line!

And we had started it!

A big check-a-roo on the LOF!

After the song ended, and the line dispersed, Jerry the CM came up and gave me a high five.

Best conga line ever, he said.

You don't get out much, I said back.

It turned out that we had timed the conga line well, as the dance party ended promptly at 11.

We headed over to the Aqua Duck.

It seems like a lot of folks had the same idea, as the line tonight was longer than it had been on the first night.

But, we were only waiting about 10 minutes between rides.

I blew right past my 10th ride that night.

Another check on the LOF!

I decided that I would go for 20.

But, I only made it to 14 that night.

Not to worry, we had two nights left after this.

We closed down the Aqua Duck again on night three. The same castmember was there as the first night, and she let us have the last ride again.

We were able to hop in the hop tub for a few minutes before being chased out.

Then it was down to the cabins to change into dry clothes.

The oldest TCD DD did not Aqua Duck with us that night.

Here's what she was doing:

IMG_4123.jpg

You snooze. You lose.

After we all got dried off and changed, Mrs. TCD said she wanted to watch a movie on our cabin TV.

Did I mention that they have about a million on demand movies on the cabin TV's?

And that it's free.

Well, maybe not a million, but more than you can ever watch.

It seemed like they had every Disney movie ever made.

Every one.

Even ones nobody watches.

That was cool.

They even had some regular movies.

Mrs. TCD wanted to see The Vow.

I didn't.

So, I headed over to the fun cabin.

The girls were all hanging out there, talking about all kinds of things.

I hung out and tried to be cool.

At one point, Twin #2 got up, and everyone else screamed. It seems that she had been sitting on one of those chocolate coins:

IMG_2188.jpg

Uh oh.

Well, at least it's only chocolate.

We wiped that up the best we could.

I told the girls not to worry about it, I would tell Nayla in the morning, and I'm sure he has seen worse. I will fast forward here a minute to say that when I told Nayla in the morning, I tried to make light of it by telling him that I had good news and bad news. The bad news was going to be that we needed a new beadspread. The good news was going to be that it was only a chocolate coin. Old Nayla had no idea what I was saying to him, so the good news/bad news thing didn't work.

Now, back to night three.

This little episode gave me a chance to share a story about the girl we called Poop Factory back in the third grade. It must have been the late hour, as we were all laughing so hard, that Mrs. TCD had to pause her movie to come over and check on us.

After a while, we went out for a little late night elevator riding. This is something that the girls find to be fun. On the Magic and Wonder, there are some glass elevators, so you can see things as you go up and down. There are also some glass elevators on the Dream. On some of the decks, you can look out and see what is going by. On other decks, there are things to see painted on the walls. It was hard to photograph these, but these next few photos will give you some idea:

IMG_2189.jpg

IMG_2190.jpg

IMG_2193.jpg

I think the idea is that in the elevator, you are flying, and these are the things you see as you fly on by.

Around 1 am, we were all back in the girls' cabin and it was time for room service.

Did I mention that it is available 24 hours a day?

And that it's free?

I don't think I've posted the room service menu yet.

Here it is:

Salads and Appetizers

Caesar Salad - crisp Romaine salad tossed in a creamy parmesan dressing

Did you see how they have a steak sandwich on there?

That's what I tried.

And it was no Philly cheesesteak. It was a real steak on a hoagie roll with cheese, mushrooms and onions.

And it was served with steak fries!

Like they used to give you with a GAG at Trail's End.

Oh boy, was that good.

Some of the girls went for the Mickey Bars. As I mentioned earlier, they are not on the menu, but they will bring them if you ask.

Here is Twin #2 not sitting on a chocolate coin enjoying her Mickey bar at around 1 am:

IMG_2194.jpg

IMG_2195.jpg

That is the end of our third night.

We turned in after this.

Day four is coming up next.

It is our day at sea.

We always enjoy days at sea.

We will pick it up there in the next update.

BTW- there is a sad post script to this story. Do you remember how we had set our two turkey legs off to the side while we danced and did the conga line? Well, none of us did, and it wasn't until we were on the Aqua Duck that I asked if anyone had retrieved them. Well, no one did. I guess the staff cleaning up picked them up. Such a shame. We should have made Mrs. TCD carry them down to the cabin. We didn't spend any time fretting over it, though. Go with the flow.

Lou, don't you know that TCD never forgets?

I remember very well who won a medal on previous Dream cruise and how he won it.

Very impressive.

Do you write this stuff down?

So you know I'm not bluffing.

I have a cheap plastic Mickey medal and I'm not afraid to use it.
