  1. wowsier- i have not visited the forum in  a long time.... other vacations than Disney got in the way.... (yellowstone & a cruise)  but this summer we are Disney bound!

And I will be contacting you regarding your files... .they look awesome.  I just have a Cameo, and LOVE cutting disney stuff.

  2. Do you have to have internet to use the SCAL?  or is it just a program to use on the computer.

You do not have to have Internet access to use the software.  You download the software, then utilize it, or they will send you a CD if you wish.  (I don't think that is necessary tho).  Any updates to the software can be done by a download online.... they will not send you a new CD with each update.

I use SCAL on my laptop.

There is a facebook page to "boycott Provo Craft", you can search for what I have in quotes and it will come up.

I will continue to use what PC items I currently have, but when I need to replace my E, it will be with a different cutter.

  3. I used to use Creative Memory Albums, but they were so stinkin' expensive.

For my last few albums, I have used We R Memory Keepers 3-Ring D-style binders.

    I  :rofl2: them!

I wasn't sure I was going to love the 3 ring and not have my layouts right next to each other.  But I got over that.

I use the "hybrid" scrapbooking inserts.

The We R Memory page refills have true 12x12 refills, or you can use the other pages too, such as 6- 4x6 photos on a sheet, or others too.

And the hybrid pages come in 12 different layouts, plus the full page.

I LOVE this system, because sometimes I don't want to do a whole page on a topic, but I do want the photos in the book.

And this has allowed me to start to "catch up".

And I like to use one 4x6 block to journal or an a element if I don't have enough photos to fill all slots.

The challenge is doing one layout two page layout (Page 1 on left, Page 2 of right) and going to the next two page spread, using the same layout on the Page 3 as the previous Page 2.... having the photos the right direction, etc.  That is the only part that required just a bit of cooridination.

You can check all the hybrid page layouts here:

    So, what do you use?

  4. SCAL will let you cut any font already on your computer.  And you can shadow any font too.

Also, you can cut most any image you find on line, with a slight learning curve, you could do any paper piecing you want.

the easiest way is to find a coloring book page that you can print out.  You can use that coloring page and create a paper piecing that way.

And I love your papges.  I like that 2009.

I will need to take photos and upload my pages from the last few weekends (tho on those pages I did mainly cartridge cutouts because I had access to a TON of carts at the crop).

But I can show you some of my SCAL creations too :-)

  5. Ah, Kim, you have the expression, I bet you could learn to use SCAL too!

The cost of SCAL is about $60, but you NEVER HAVE to buy another Cartridge again!

Any font you have on your computer you can cut.

Most any image you can cut.

You can download a trial of SCAL, and I think it is active for 10 days, and you can cut whatever, BUT it will put three cuts right across the middle of your image or font.... that is their "watermark"... so you can see it will cut your image, but the trial will make it useless.

check out this link for things cut with either SCAL or MTC:

    www.svgcuts.com

They have a lot of free svg files that cut awesomely.

They also have a great help section with lots of tutorials on there.

And of course lots of svg collections that you can purchase.

For a forum to ask questions, go to the SCAL forum, they folks are awesome.

I don't usually purchase much, but the paper crafting is what I wish I had more time to explore.

  6. yes inkscape is free.  I learned inkscape from playing around with a dingbat (which is a "font" but instead of letters, there are pictures for each key)  But once you get the hang if it, it will all click, and then it is the sky is the limit.  ???

Here is my standard answer when folks want to know about inkscape an want to know how to use it with scal.

I use inkscape version 0.46 because of some quirky things with the newer versions.

I learned from this site for a full tutorial from start to finish using a bingbat. And there are A LOT of pictures, no video, 154 pictures to be exact!

So I could go at my pace, and work right along with the directions.

the dingbat she uses can be found here:

    Hope this helps

And if you want me to try out the image, please feel free to send me an email at DogCarbon at comcast dot net.

  7. I use SCAL, and never had a need or desire to check out MTC.

But, both are similar and of course there is a learning curve for both.

And I liked the challenge of learning the software. so for me it was fit.  :shh:

I do not do much "designing" in SCAL, but I use inkscape to design.

To design with SCAL, you would import the image, then trace it.  then the image is in scal and is a scal file.

You do the same type of thing with inkscape, but it gives me more control to create a cleaner end product.

Inkscape creates svg files.  You can import the svg files into scal.

If you find an svg file, those can be cut with MTC or SCAL.

    That is the VERY basics.

The SCAL forum is VERY friendly and helpful.. they do stay on task, and there is not a lot of banter  :wiz:, but that is not why those folks are there for, but still a great forum.

And here is a great resource I have found with disney svg files.  Some are cleaner than others:

  8. I scrapbook!

I have an expression but don't use many cartridges because I use the SCAL software and cut my own images and fonts.

I will be scrapping this weekend and the following weekend too.  The second weekend is a girls weekend.

I am behind in my scrap, like all good scrapbookers.

I will be working on 2009 photos... they were printed a few weeks ago in anticipation of this upcoming weekends.

I also just printed a few select photos of 2010, so I could start those too (and get the free shipping since I had a few photos of 2009 that didn't get printed the first time around)

If anyone needs to learn how to use SCAL, please ask - I am willing to help you learn!

OR, if anyone is looking for an svg file, please ask,  I can make most anything if you have an image of it.

  9. 2 cups sugar, 1 stick butter, 1/2 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/2 tsp. vanilla & 3 cups oats (minute not old fashioned)

mix sugar, cocoa, butter and milk.  Bring to a boil and cook 2 mins. stir constantly.  remove from heat add peanut butter & vanilla.  stir until pb is melted then add oats.  drop by teaspoons on wax paper and cool.

i sometimes cut the oats back if i need to, no need for dry cookies.  occasionally i make them with whipping cream instead of milk. extra creamy.

    that's my No-Bake Cookie recipe.

My favorite in all the world. :)

  10. we did just buy my DD11 a NPPassport and the kids version too.  She saw these in a NP store several months ago, and wanted to go back to that NP to get one.  Well, the 4 hr drive one way, the $10 entrance fee, and the gas to get there.... was worth the shipping fee from the NP online store!

But I didn't realize there was the annual pass.  Thanks for that tip!

I keep hearing such nice things about Zion NP.  I need to figure out a way to get there!

Oh, btw, the kids will be DS15, DD11 and DD9 on this trip... and maybe one DS23 (if he doesn't get a job right away, as he graduates from USMMA in June)
