  1. With a couple of weeks to get things organozed my DW is getting anxious for me to start planning our stops enrout to Fort Wilderness. We are not rushing down and will break each day into 6-8 hours on the road. These are rough, but within an hour either side is where I imaginge us doing stops.

1st night off I79 in the Pittsburgh, PA area

2nd night off I77 in the Charlotte, NC area

3rd night off I95 in the Jacksonville FL area

Any recommended campgrounds in these general areas that you can share would be appreciated.

  2. I have always been a believer in buying a little more than you really need. It worked out well for us when we upgraded the trailer. Sometimes I wish I could get away with a small 1/2 ton for my day to day but my truck has done everything I asked of it and more and is easy to drive with a big trailer, our 18 y/o son has driven it several times while towing our 32 ft TT and he remarks about how well it tows.

I agree, we started with a Chrysler Pacifica paired with a 17ft Rockwood Roo hybrid, it was a little much for the car, so we bought a Ram 1500 crew cab with a 5.7L hemi and then my wife decides she wants a bigger trailer, so now we have a 304 Surveyor and although the Ram will pull it, on hills it works a bit. I guess its time for a 2500 soon  A crew cab is a must......with a built in DVD player of course!

Another thing we added this time was a Hensley hitch...which is awesome! And this year we added a Prodigy P3 brake control which we haven`t hauled with yet.

  3. We`ve been debating the cart rental issue and received a quote from Kenny, we are just not sure whether it is needed or not. We`ve requested a preferred (loop 100 or 200) so we are close to everything except for the pool as it appears from the maps. Looping would be fun, but for $500ish not sure it would be that much fun  The other option is taking the bikes, which is a hassle loading and unloading from the truck and both kids are still on training wheels. Also our son still has no conception of danger and causes us stress whenever he is on his bike around cars. The pool is a big deal as we in the past spent a couple of hours there to start each day. So as you can see we are torn.
