  1. We will be at the Fort for Christmas too!! We are from Katy TX, right outside of Houston. We are used to warm winter temps but there are times it snows here as well during Christmas!! I hate to wear warm clothes when we are going to Florida for our first time, but I guess we gotta pack what we need....maybe I need to buy another trailer to attach to the back of my current trailer just for clothes for the 5 of us!!! haha....

  2. WOW! You are going to love that TT! What an awesome layout! I love the expandable bunkhouse where the kids can have their own 'space'....we all need that!! We have dreams of one of these rigs one day ;) We just moved from a large pop-up to a 'new to us' hybrid trailer with a small slide and the space means the world to us! When you have kids, every little square inch inside the camper makes a BIG difference! Congrats and enjoy :) Happy Camping!!!

  3. I'm with you, we have three boys and we try to let them out and stretch their legs and get some energy out on our stops. We all go in to potty, maybe grab a quick snack unless we packed some already, and then walk around a few minutes. Then everyone is ready to pile back in and get settled down for the next couple hundred miles ;) Always keeping a bit of water in the tank sounds like a great idea to me too....sometimes those young bladders need to go at inopportune times! I have heard about keeping the jug of water for on the road flushes...sounds great! Awesome thread, thanks for all the info! I have a very nice 'buy it and pack it' list now thanks to alot of great folks :) Happy Camping!

  4. Thanks for the thread info ;) It just takes time I know....plenty of trips to the ole Wal-mart getting those things you forget. With the pop-up we just had to bring things along from the house, with the TT, we have to stock up double on things, but it sure will make packing ALOT easier! We are in the process of getting it all together. We are about to head out on our maiden voyage with this camper and want to be prepared. Garner state park in TX...get our feet wet before we spend time at the Fort in December! Can't wait for it :) Good to hear from ya'll! Happy Camping! :)

  5. Well, we are gonna need ALOT of your experienced and handy advice here....we just (I mean like it just got brought home 2 days ago!) moved from a pop-up life to a hybrid TT and are overwhelmed. We used to have everything besides chairs and whatnot loaded in our truck in bins and bags...then shifted it all to be crammed into our pop-up once we got to the site. Did that for 5 years. Now, we have to load this camper and I am afraid we will bring WAY too much or not enough. We have 3 boys, one being 20 months old, so we have alot of kid gear that goes in and out...we are headed to Lowe's to get some items for it and to the Dollar Tree for some storage items too but besides that, we are clueless! If anyone has a stock 'list' of goodies you take on each trip that you store 'in' your trailer while travelling, we would be much obliged ;) I love this forum...it is so helpful!

    Happy Camping!

  6. Hi!!! I just sprayed some plastic outdoor furniture with a spray paint made for 'outdoor plastics' and other surfaces and I just found it at Wal-Mart. They had about every color in the rainbow and they have kinds meant for bonding to plastic surfaces specifically. Good luck on your search ;) Happy camping!

I can't seem to find purple spray paint for plastics in any stores. I found it on Amazon - by some independant seller - for $35 a can!! I ended up painting my Mickey lamp post maroon and I really want it purple. Not only is it the FF color, but it's also the color of the trim on my camper.

I found I could order flamingos already purple, although not in the goofy looking poses I want. If I ever find the ones I want I need to be able to paint them.

P.S. Leads on goofy flamingos appreciated.

  7. Hi There! I saw this and thought I would share something we found and the kids LOVE. It is called grilled pizza....now, if you get on Youtube or maybe anywhere you can find Paula Deen cooking shows online, you will be able to find it. All we do is light up our grill, get it nice and hot...get some of those pizza crusts that are ready made in the tubes in the cold food sections. Roll one of those out with some olive oil on each side (we even spray a little on the grill so as not to have a sticking situation). You go ahead and grill one side of it. Check it after about 7 minutes. If it looks nice and crusty, take it off there...this can be kinda tricky but we have found either a nice pizza board or even 2 well placed spatula's will slide that baby off there. Put it onto a platter of some kind and load it up (the already grilled side that is). Pizza sauce, cheeses, olives, chicken pieces, sausage, mushrooms, whatever floats your boat....then lay her down nice and easy on the grill...we kinda slide it off from the platter back onto a oiled grill. Grill it with the top lid down until nice and grilled and ready. We usually make one that is adult's choice and one the kiddos get to choose toppings for and even load the toppings on themselves. It is a real treat my kids LOVE. Try it out sometime ;) It is a good experience for all !! Happy Camping!!!

For our first camping trips, we ended up making runs to Publix for sub lunches wub.gifor went out to eat at a local place. I would LOVE to hear what are your kids fav camping meals. We will be embarking on our first "all camping" experience (meaning fixing our own meals at the T/T) in 3 weeks. I have a 4yo and 2yo. So what's your favorite??

  8. Thanks all ;) A Fort Fiends store??? You MUST be joking?!! Now i have to sneak back my credit cards from the hubby!! haha! He will LOVE that there is another store for me to shop in! :) We are doing our best with the reservation issue. I have checked back numerous times online ( I do obsess much) but to no avail. I will respectfully accept that I may just have to show up with my partial site reservation and hope they let me grab up a last minute cancellation or just let me squeeze into the site regardless. Heck, I would park it on a sidewalk somewhere just to be able to get into the Fort for the first time (and Disney for that matter)! I don't give up easily....thanks for all the tips and support :) Ya'll are awesome...but you knew that already :)

    Ya, welcome.

    Texasrose, love the name.

For obvious reasons, I never have and probably never will use Rhonda, but from what I've heard, she does an excellent job.

She makes the res, gets you the best price, and sometimes a discount.

That being the case, why does anyone bother going through Disney reservations and put up with the hassle, why not contact Rhonda instead. Sounds like a no brainer to me.

And no, she's not a relative.

I can certainly take care of that.

  9. Thanks everyone for all the 'Welcome's"! We love it! We are planning to be at the fort from Dec 22-29.....I will be using some of your tricks and tips to help me for my issue now and I might be handing my reservation making over to Rhonda as suggested. Seems much easier, takes my (everlasting) worrying out of the situation ;) Ya'll are neat AND cute! haha! I will be looking for Fiends signs while there :) Can't wait for our very first trip to the Fort! Happy camping!!!

What are the dates you are planning to visit The Fort? We have dates in December and might need to do some tweeking.

  10. Thank you thank you!!! I was so hoping I would get a response from ya ;) No dump stations??? YIKES!!!! That is great to know :) Great info, us newbies appreciate this a BUNCH!!!! Happy camping ;)

    First off welcome!!!!

The biggest thing with partials is there is no sewer and there is also no dump stations at the Fort, so if you use your sink and shower and toilet a lot, you will be dragging your blue boy to the bath house or an empty full hookup site to dump it.

However, even though they say no at reservations, the real answer is "don't ask, don't tell"

Another trick, try and book for a much longer time than you actually need, as much as a month, then cancel the days you don't need. Try starting your reservation mid week.

Another tip, contact [email protected] She is EXCELLENT and will find a site for you eventually!!!

  11. HI all!! New to this (very cool) forum! Found it kind of accidently and am thrilled. What a neat group of people ;) Ok, here is my deal. This is our FIRST trip to the Fort. So excited, 3 young sons who can't wait to visit the park at Christmas time. We booked a pop up site. Well, me and the hubby decided we wanted to stretch all five sets of our legs better and have moved up to a hybrid style travel trailer (we had 2 pop ups before this, our last one was 25 feet opened up and the travel trailer will be only 27ft). I figure I should call and find out if they will allow my somewhat (by 2 feet) longer trailer in a pop up site and the agent tells me "oh no, this is not allowed". So I ask if there are ANY other sites at this time. Well, the answer was no. Totally bummed. Have been saving for this for a while now and she said all we can do is call back and check the website for cancellations. After reading some of your posts, I noticed one that suggested that although they 'say' we cannot park our trailer in a pop up site, that people have seen this done at the park before. Does anyone have any suggestions for us? The people at the reservation desk just told us that they could put a note on our site saying our rig was going to be bigger (?). Yet the agent said this was not allowed. Are they very strict about what trailers they allow in partial sites? Should we be scrambling to get someone's cancellation or will they work with us when we get there? I so appreciate your input....and I love sarcasm so bring it on :) Thanks all!!
