  1. He was at New River, but it's right there in Jacksonville, too. It's south of Camp Lejeune. He was an electrician for helicopters. We loved North Carolina and if my family didn't live here I'd consider moving back. I went to college in Wilmington. :)

Hello Again okgirlie ........ I listed in my first response 'north' of Camp Lejeune but I should have said we live 'south'! I know New River very well, it is only about 20-minutes from our home. I agree with you about North Carolina, it really is a great state to live and raise your family in! Both of our daughters also attended part of their college days at UNCW in Wilmington. Very nice school and it is in a great location!

  2. I would love to travel more than we do, but my husband has a shoulder injury from when he was in the marines and that limits us.

My dh was stationed in North Carolina so we made the trip to Oklahoma and back several times.

Hello okgirlie ......... I really have enjoyed reading your trip report!

Marines ..... Stationed in North Carolina, would that be at Camp Lejeune? We live about 25 miles south of Camp Lejeune and believe it or not we now have our daughter, son-in-law and two of our grandchildren living in OK. From our home to theirs is about 1,300 miles which is a very long drive so when we can go for a visit we always fly!

Based on your trip report it sounds like you and your family love WDW/ Fort Wilderness as much as our family does!

It truly is a great place to be and no better place to make lasting memories!

  3. Hello CCIntrigue ......... Thanks for reposting your trip report here so others can enjoy it as well!

It looks like our drive from the east coast of NC to the Fort is about the same amount of miles as you drive. (Around 600 miles) It is always a great feeling when we pull in at the Fort after the drive down!

I am sure everyone else experiences that same exciting feeling as well regardless of the amount of miles / time it takes to get there!

  4. Here's what you can end up with if you know when they'll snap the picture. We knew when it would happen and agreed beforehand to all have the same expression.

It's me, my daughter and two grandsons on Rock' N' Roller Coaster.

Great picture Lou ...... It looks like you were all having a lot of fun!

Thanks for sharing it with us!

  5. Here's how it will work:

Put out your FortFiends sign when you are the Fort. If the Spike Fairy sees it, you may find a genuine FWRR spike at your site. It happened to Stefa70, and it could happen to you!

    TCD

Hello TCD ........ As always, I am loving your trip report!

'WOW' ........... Sharing a part of Fort Wilderness history with other folks / fiends that also love the Fort! It doesn't get much better than that!

Many of us have known this for a while and now I am sure the newer 'fort fiends' see it as well ..........."You are a real class guy"!

Thanks for all you do to share your love of the Fort with all of us!

  6. So... have you stayed at the fort without entering a park? If so, did it seem odd? Did you feel like you were missing out on the magic?

Hello Pam ......... We have stayed at Fort Wilderness many times without going to the parks and we have always had a great time! We love just being at the Fort and enjoying everthing it has to offer! The magic for us is being at the Fort! We have been to the parks so many times I think for us some times we just enjoy taking a break. We still do visit DTD and other Disney Resorts and also like to eat out at Disney Restaurants during our trips! For us we have found that there is so much to do at Disney even without going to the parks that we never feel like we miss anything if we don't!

  7. As of now, we'll check in 9/29 and check out 10/8.

Hello Olivia ....... I sure hope that it will all work out for your trip!

The end of September and the first of October really is a great time to visit Fort Wilderness. (Anytime would be a great time to visit FW!) I know that you, Lance and your children will all really enjoy being back at the Fort!
