A half marathon in Paris?  Way cool.  I hope that you make it, and that thinks have settled down over there by then.

Well, my husband and I went to France Sept 1-17 this year, missed out on the DLP half by about a week (maybe next year!), and had a wonderful time.  I was re-reading your report in advance and just got through the rest since my return.  We flew in and out of Paris, but only stayed a couple days there on either end of the trip.  Went to Reims, Colmar, Cluny, Lyon - so much great food, great wine and wonderful experiences.  I hope you get to go back and visit more areas in France!  So many beautiful places.

IIRC, you have the Wine & Dine half coming up.  Looking forward to your report and hope you have lots of fun.

  2. I actually wanted to get a Hot Link Corn Dog from there, but the twins vetoed that plan.  They said we HAD to got to the Little Red Wagon.

Have you tried the Hot Link one?  That sounded good to me.

Thanks for posting your photos- if the TCD twins are able to score spots in the Disneyland DCP, I'm going to run in one of the Disneyland races.

And, I'm going to go and look for some of those buildings that are represented at DHS.

Howdy!  Freshly back from Disneyland - ran the Star Wars Half Marathon and enjoyed some of the Diamond Celebration activities!

Updates:  Got my husband to try the Hot Link corndog (I don't do spicy).  He said it was legit spicy and really enjoyed it.  In fact, he regretted that we stopped for corndogs before getting a beer, as he could have used a drink while eating the dog.  I actually haven't gotten one at the Red Wagon.  Will have to put that on the list for next time.  We tend to spend more time in California Adventure.

After the race on Sunday morning, we headed to Hollywood to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the El Capitan theatre.  If you are not familiar with the name, this is the movie house that Disney often uses for premieres.  It's directly across the street from the Dolby Theatre (where the Oscars are held) and just down the street from the real Chinese theatre that inspires the one in Hollywood Studios.  This was SUCH a cool experience.  There was an organist playing Star Wars music before the movie began and a laser/lightsaber show as well.  Oh!  The organ (with organist) sank down into a hole in the ground when the movie was almost ready to begin.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Capitan_Theatre

Connecting back to earlier discussion, we drove right past the old Max Factor building, which was featured in those articles I posted last year from Yesterland.  Did you ever get a chance to look around for the real buildings?  And I don't recall seeing any race photos of you from Disneyland?!  ;-)

I also visited a friend while in Disneyland; he started his CA DCP this past Saturday!  Strangely, he was also WDW DCP while your girls were there.

Next race - Star Wars Dark Side Half in April.  Are you registered???

  3. Jeez.  That's kind of disturbing.

From what I understand, the ADA prevents Disney (and all other businesses) from questioning a person's need for a guide animal.

Which opens the door to this kind of strangeness.

This is a topic close to my heart, so here are the rules:

When it is not obvious what service an animal provides, only limited inquiries are allowed.

    Staff may ask two questions:

    (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability, and

    (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform.

Staff cannot ask about the person’s disability, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation for the dog, or ask that the dog demonstrate its ability to perform the work or task.

A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless:

    (1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or

    (2) the dog is not housebroken.

When there is a legitimate reason to ask that a service animal be removed, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or services without the animal’s presence.

I suspect feathers could be ruffled by asking what tasks the animal is trained to perform, but those people are also likely trying to get one over.

  4. Wow, running past the Disneyland Small World ride when it is all lit up like that would be cool!

And good job snapping the Captain Hook and Green Army Man shot!

I really preferred the Disneyland races to WDW, because you run through the city of Anaheim, through neighborhoods, past people's houses, etc.  People are out in their yards in PJs, cheering and supporting the runners.  Such a cool experience.

I had to hoof it to get that photo.  I took several, but they are all super-blurry (as we were both running).  The Green Army Man is actually Peter Pan, and there's a Tinker Bell in front of/between both of them.  Looking at that picture again, there may also be a Tiana over to the left.

And I think I see a Pocahontas on the left in the Small World photo and Belle and Ariel over on the right.

I love all the detail at the parks and figuring out what inspired it.  I was visiting friends in LA a few months ago, and got to see the Crossroads of the World in person.  Totally geeked out over that :D

  5. I like how you said not yet!  That's the spirit.

I am curious as to why you chose to go to Disneyland for the Tinker Bell Half Marathons rather than doing one at WDW.

Thanks to you, I pointed out the 60th anniversary to my DH yesterday, and hopefully, we can make a visit!

Actually, I have done three halfs at WDW and 2 at DL now.  Wine & Dine in 2012.  After registering for that, I found out about the Coast to Coast challenge, so I did Tinker Bell and Wine & Dine in 2013 to earn a C2C medal.  Then RunDisney announced a special pink C2C medal for doing both 'girly' races, so I did Tinker Bell and Princess half in 2014.  Theeeeennnnnn, they announced the Glass Slipper Challenge, so I did the 10K and half on Princess weekend.

    No, not yet.  Just Original.

You make a good point about the 60th anniversary.  I should try to get out there this year :D  I was there for Tinker Bell Half Marathon the past two years, and a race weekend does not make for a good park-going weekend.

  7. Yeah, and they can be requestedeth without sides, too.  Knocks a little coin off the price.

I actually wanted to get a Hot Link Corn Dog from there, but the twins vetoed that plan.  They said we HAD to got to the Little Red Wagon.

I liked how the corndogs at the castle "cometh" with sides:

  8. What a wonderful report!  Thanks for the beautiful pictures and the cruise review.

I've been interested in this itinerary for quite a while.  I sailed on one of the NYC/Canada cruises with DCL last year, and absolutely fell in love with the ports we visited.  Would love to visit all of them again, in addition to PEI (Green Gables) and Louisbourg!

The pre-cruise portion of your report was great, also.  My aunt lives in Kittery, and I grew up on the south shore of MA, so all the Boston/Plymouth/Portsmouth/Kittery talk warmed my heart.

And DaveinTN is absolutely correct about Niagara-on-the-Lake.  In fact, I'm planning to visit again in about a week.

    I love this photo!

We also learned the elevator lesson....and since we had aft staterooms those tended to be the quietest elevators. So when possible, we usually used those. But it does get frustrating when every elevator that stops is already full!

We learned that lesson quickly as well. The aft elevators are the way to go on the Classic ships with the exception of dinner time. My mom and I were traveling with my two aunts (75+), so we waited for the elevator with them, loaded them in and ran up or down the stairs. We usually beat them.
