  1. Morning everyone!  We decided to stay for thanksgiving this year instead of the week before Christmas. I apparently mis calculated and missed the opening of thanksgiving dining reservations for Trails End.  I was able to get a brunch reservation in the early afternoon as a 2nd best. Does anyone know if they still take walk ups for dinner or is it reservation only?  Also does the brunch typically include the thanksgiving type foods (turkey, stuffing, etc) or is it the usual fried chicken, mashed potatoes, etc?

  2. Hi there!  I have a question and am trying to figure out where to address it so I thought I would try with the Fort Friends.  I was invited to a facebook event along with 3,000 other people for a kids night out event at FW to go on a hayride and enjoy marshmallows and a movie under the stars.  Having stayed at FW many times over the years and preparing for our next trip this December this event created by a private group concerns me.  Does FW allow events such as this to take place or is this entirely unsolicited and on the evening this is planned will the campgrounds be innundated with outsiders?  I know the movie nights have a tendency to be fairly crowded just with camp goers, I cannot imagine if the 500+people who have stated they are attending actually show up and are allowed into the resort.  I am sorry if this sounds like complaining but even though we only get to spend 1 or 2 week long visits at FW each year it feels like our home away from home when we are there.  I would hate for something like this to ruin some of the great events that are held for resort guests paying good money.  Thanks for your assistance and please let me know if you need any further info on the event or who I should contact as I would hate to see anyone's beautiful vacation at FW spoiled by a large group of squatters.

This is a terrible photo, but last weekend, there was a sign on display at P&J's Southern Takeout announcing the availability of some new items:

That cheeseburger could be a good alternative to me eating fried chicken every night when I'm at the Fort.  I'm going to give it a try first chance I get.

These items are probably only being offered on a trial basis.  They aren't listed on the menu posted on-line by Disney: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/cabins-at-fort-wilderness-resort/p-and-js-southern-takeout/menus/dinner/

Is that the same burger the trails end sells on their ala cart at lunch time?  Cause that is the most amazing burger I've ever eaten in my life!! My hubby & I drove down to FW (1hr drive from our house when there is no traffic) just to get a burger for lunch lol

  4. Thank you for the input. We love just walking around the grounds & enjoying the tranquility. We have probably had  about 10 clog vaca's in the last 5yrs @ FW and only been to the pool once so that's not a problem. Lol. Not that we don't like the pools at the campgrounds we just enjoy the wilderness part more.

The pony rides are the most important part so I was glad we were able to get a reservation close to 5 to be on the safe side because I think my son might have a melt down if he could if ride "his" pony's ?

We have never celebrated Easter away from home, let alone in the magic of Disney. Any special events at the parks going on as well we should be sure to catch?

Must have overlooked that link you tossed out there. Thanks for that info. Knowing that I may plan to go the first week if we can swing it. Was looking at annual pass info since we will be down there at thanksgiving. May cost me a little more but in the long run I think it may be worth it. Does anyone use the discount on food? That alone may cover the roughly 50 more per annual pass vs buying tickets for both trips. I am assuming the annual pass includes the hopper or is it one park per day? Couldn't find that info on a quick look.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

We have annual passes & have found them to be very worth while. Don't forget to include the fact that AP includes parking which is now $22 if I remember correctly plus you get discounts not only on food at select restaurants (make sure the restaurants you want to visit are on the list as it does not include every restaurant) but also on merchandise if you plan to buy any souvenirs.

  6. Hello friends, I need some help and hope to find some answers here. My husband & I have birthdays 2 days apart and have planned a weekend vaca with the kids for our birthday. This year it falls on Easter weekend which of course means we did not book in time to get grounds at FW but found another campground nearby. We already have Easter dinner reservations for Trails End but wanted to see if anyone knows if they will allow us to get in early @ FW to take part in some of the festivities & of course my son wants to ride the ponys....again.

We tried to stop by for lunch & ponys a few weeks ago as we are annual pass holders and we're told by security we couldn't get in the gate without a reservation. Our dinner reservations are not until 510p but we are hoping to get in & wonder the beautiful grounds for a few hours before hand. We stay at FW 1-2 x's a year for the past several years but with the new security changes things are different. I appreciate any feedback anyone can provide!!

  7. Hopefully if it does come back to life it will be in the form of the Wilderness junction I found some information on instead of the DVC villas.  It was at least further down the street and offered more things for the FW campers in the form of shops and restaurants.  I guess only time will tell but hopefully we will not see the DVC in our wilderness backyard anytime soon.

  8. Hey! Welcome!

One thing that was part of the plan from the beginning was to relocate the horse barns up to the Outpost area of the Fort.  The plans showed a big horse barn, and an area where they could offer pony rides.

So, the horses and ponies were just going to move to the other side of the Fort.

I don't know how old your son is, but it's likely he'll be too old to ride the ponies before any of this stuff ever happens.

Thank you, I have followed some of the posts on here for a while but when I saw talk about this kind of major change I had to reply.  I have stayed at FW at least 6-7 times in the last 3 years and are gearing up for another trip this December.  We absolutely love the campgrounds for the amenities, peace & quiet, and of course easy access to Magic Kingdom.  I understand progress is the name of the game for Disney but there is so much other land that is available I hope they consider moving the complex further down to a more midway point between FW and WL.

My son just turned 5 and we have stayed at FW every year since he turned 2 plus a couple extra vacations.  Glad to hear it wont be in the near future if this plan does resurface but I truly hope its location is reconsidered and the historic locations around the campgrounds remain in tact.
