Okay everyone. I have been coming to FW since 1977 and it is my favorite place on earth. For years we brought our 43' bunk house with our kids. Now that the kids are all grown up we have sold the bunkhouse and bought a Fleetwood Discovery Motorhome. We have our annual family trip coming up in February 2016. We are now taking my daughter, her husband and our 3 grandchildren with us in addition to my other daughter and my mother. Over the years I have seen people set up a small pop up camper behind the motorhome on the same site.
Does anybody know if FW still allows this? We will have 9 people total which is still under the 10 limit. This will save us a good bit of money. Any thoughts.
Also we always request the 1400 loop and get it 95% of the time.

I see that a lot of people suggest this company but the link is no longer valid.
Did they change names or go out of business?

Wow, FWF, you got the whole thing on tape!
That got to be a pretty big fire before they got it put out. Thank goodness they did. And also thank goodness for the rain we've had lately. That could have been much worse.

I went to the out post and saw the truck sitting in the grass. I thought that it was a contractor's truck, because we all know hoy the Fort frowns on parking off the pavement. When I cam out I saw, what I thought was a little steam coming from under the hood. I thought maybe it was overheated. But as I made my way to the bus stop the smoke was getting worse. A bus driver got on the radio and called it in.
Holy moly!!!
Big thanks to Curt and Todd for all the photos, and thanks very much for the videos, Todd!
You'reelcome. Just doing my duty for us FortFiends!
At the start of the first video the truck was already engulfed in flames. Even then, it took almost 6 minutes for the fire department to arrive. Not comforting!
I was thinking the same thing, it was spreading to the brush and trees.
Anyone notice fire department had a hard time finding a hydrant because a Disney van was blocking it from view.
Yes and when they got the hose over it was about 30 feet to short so they had to pull out a second hose.
Good catch. I saw the firefighter making a signal near the end there, and wondered what she was trying to convey. Then I saw the other firefighter go and hook up the hose.
I didn't see the big firetruck until the van moved. And, now that I think of it, I didn't see it drive by-so was it there the whole time the truck was burning like that? Or did it come in through the check in lanes?
TCD
The lady fire fighter was doing exactly that, looking for the hydrant. The fire truck came in through the front entrance right where we check in at.

I'm bringing the smoker, not sure what I'm putting in it yet but it's coming along, at Defeated Creek we did Breakfast pot luck style on the satruday morning that was GREAT! I will do Gravy, if someone can do biscuts, my oven only does like 6 at a time.. it will take FOREVER :)
I have a outdoor commercial griddle that I will bring. I love cooking breakfast. I will bring a bunch of eggs and maybe some pork tenderloin.

We are looking forward to it. I don't miss a meal so let's plan some food.
Yea!!! It's almost time to start talking food that's my favorite part of any GG :)

My old camper was a 39 ft Sierra Travel Trailer with 2 driver side slides and a 21 ft awning. Overall length was 43 ft from coupler to rear bumper. My tow vehicle was a Ford F350 Crew Cab Dually and it was 23 ft long with the weight distribution hitch. That is a total length of 66 ft hitched. Once unhitched I needed a couple more feet. We never put it in the 300 loop. But it has been in the 100 preferred 400, 500, 1300 premium and 1600, 1700 Full hook up sites. I would be a nervous wreck trying to pull it around the 300 loop. I had a hard enough time getting it around the 100 and 400 loops. The 1300, 1600, 1700 was no problem. But I am a professional driver with a cdl so what seems easy to me may bee hard to others.
This is a picture of our setup when we had the Dodge Ram Mega Cab Also 22 ft long. This is in the 1300 loop near the campfire ring.
This is the old F350 after it was converted to SRW. Overal length is 66 ft. That trip we were in the 1700 loop.
The key for us to get the most room was to put the driver side tires on the edge of the concrete and go as far back as possible and try to center the power pole between the 2 slide outs.

Okay we are booked for a back in site for 3/14 - 3/16. Also told them we are with a group of FortFiends and they said they are planning on grouping us together if possible.
I've revised the first post in the thread with a list of those attending. If I have ?? next to your name, I don't think you have confirmed or posted your dates. If your name isn't on the list but you are attending, post your dates and I'll add you to the list. The more the merrier! This looks like a great campground and a great group is coming together. We are getting a lot of Alabama fiends and some Tennessee ones as well.....but this campground is practically in Georgia too so hopefully we get some more people signing up!
Hey Dave add me to the list, please.
So, here's a question from a GG newbie - are there usually a good number of teenagers? I know I'll have one of mine and she'll likely bring a friend, and she's already asking important questions like this.
I'm really looking forward to this!
Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!
I will be bringing my daughter (be 13 in August) and her friend that is 13.
It will be great to meet you guys, looking forward to it!

I am finding this site very difficult to maneuver. Maybe it's just me.
After you register and log in. Just double click on "Jukebox" in the upper bar. This opens the player and then you can select from the menu on the left. If you find something you like you can click the Heart + button and it will be added to your favorites.

Okay, I just got off the phone with GA Department of Public Safety. Recreational double towing is allowed as long as the following conditions are met.
- First towed trailer must be a fifth wheel or gooseneck hitch rated to handle the total of both trailers. Traditional bumper style towing of doubles is not allowed.
- The first trailer must have hydraulic or electric brakes on all axles.
- The second trailer must have brakes if the weight of it exceeds 1500 lbs.
- Both trailers must have lighting that meets DOT standards.
- Total combined trailer length cannot exceed 60 feet.
- Total weight cannot exceed GCWR of tow vehicle.
- Speed is limited to 65 mph.
I tried calling FL DOT but have not spoken to anybody who knows yet.

True there is nothing Fort specific. But the Wilderness Lodge Lobby area music and the Magic Kingdom Frontierland area music both remind me of the Fort area music.

Thank you everyone! We are excited. 45 more days!

You mentioned that you plan on triple towing (towing two trailers). You need to check the state laws on that before you get too involved, because there are states that do not allow it - or have limitations on it. GA and FL do NOT allow it, btw.
Some sites to check:

Yes, I have already checked into it. But we have no other way to get our golf cart down to the Fort. If I get pulled over I can show them my Class A CDL with Doubles Endorsement, LOL. I am not sure but the reason we can haul them commercially is because the law applies to actual "Ball hitches" A fifth wheel uses a King Pin and have a lot higher rating than a "ball". I am looking into it further though. Thanks for the heads up.

Merry Christmas to the family with a gift for ourselves. We finally traded our camper. Our 1999 Forest River Sierra 39' Travel Trailer with 2 slides for a 2001 Forest River Palomino 25' Fifth Wheel with 1 slide and $750. The new camper is 14 feet shorter, 4,835 lbs lighter, 2 years newer and hardly been used. Now I need to weld on a hitch to the rear so we can pull our little trailer with the golf cart. With the kids grown , except Geena, we just didn't need the huge unit anymore. Now with the fuel savings we can go to the Fort more often. We have our test run to the Fort February 15-22, 2014! Can't wait!

A lot of people would of given up and went home, but this shows how dedicated Fort Wilderness Fans are. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Hey everyone. I came across a great website for park audio music for all of us Disney Fans with "Disney Fever". www.d-cot.com
It is a great website and the only one that I have come across that has on demand music.
Check it out, I am certain that you will enjoy it. If you sign up be sure and tell them that GAAzureMach1 referred you.

You could make a removable bridge out of a treated 2x12 and 2 treated 2 x 4's for strong backs. Pull the trailer in until you get the one side tires close then align the bridge with the tires. After you get it in just remove the bridge and place it in the garage. That is exactly how I do it for mine and it has a dry weight of 9800lbs.

I just discovered this. We live in Wildwood, GA just 10 mins from Cloudland Canyon. Fort Payne, AL is only 40 mins from my house. We would love to come. What are the dates that have been decided?

Welcome, there are some great people on here! Enjoy!!! :grpwelcome:

I really do not see why they would not let a small pup if they allow a tent. They both will sleep more people , just a little more comfortable in the pup. I will be able to keep it on the pavement and both of my other vehicles will be parked in the outer lot. The only other thing we will have is 2 golf carts.
