  1. We tent camped at the Fort in the early-mid 90's and the one thing that I always remember is the Free Kennel use if you were staying on site. While I hated leaving our Collie, we would visit him a couple times a day and let him run in a large grass area that use to be right in front of the Kennel. I have a few Pic's of the location someplace .....if I come across them, I'll post um.

  2. Hi all

Well, we are on the tail end of 3 1/2 months on the road....7 of those weeks were to be spent in Orlando but we opted to cancel our two weeks at the Fort and 5 weeks at TTO(Thousand Trails) and ended up in Texas, Branson and now the Colorado River, Az.  One of the reason's I had even considered the Fort was I happened upon visiting a Forum and noticed a notification of discounted Fort Rates. Since we didn't make it this year to the Fort, my mind is set on next year, probably around the same time frame(Sept/Oct). Is there a way to be notified by E-mail when/if the rates at the Fort are lowered? I can't even remember what the discounted rate was but I want to say it was in the mid 60.00 range for a Full Hook up site....I guess I can get that info when I get home with the deposit refund. I guess either way, I'll be keeping my eye on the Forum for any info....Thanks everyone for your help in planning my cancelled trip....it was still Fun doing all that!

  3. OK  so help this "rookie" with some specific's.....A discount of almost 40 dollars would be better than none at all but here's my questions. I just signed up for the news letter so I'll be looking to get the 4 day Park Hopper with water park fun @ 380.95.....we will up grade that after arrival for the Premium Annual Pass(we will be in the area for a total of 7 weeks, 2 weeks at the Fort). I want to be able to participate in the Fast Fast+...what is the lead time on that? 60 days if staying at a WDW Resort? 30 days otherwise? Will I be able to do that with the voucher purchased through MouseSavers? I'm starting to get overwhelmed somewhat...lol  I had a thought of going to AAA in Florida but then I'd have to wait till then to get in on the Fast Pass. Its rather confusing....I'm guessing any Fast Pass booking would have to correspond with the the dates on my 4 Day Park hopper which really wouldn't be all that great since my first two weeks in the area won't be at the Fort but rather outside the Park where we will still want to go into the Park possibly on a daily basis.

Long story short, I'm assuming that if we purchased our Annual Pass'es before leaving, I could make 60 day out Fast Pass'es for the time at the Fort and 30 day out for the time we are outside the Fort..is that correct? Quite frankly, I'm not all that schooled in the Fast Pass in general, I've used it only once out here at Disneyland!!!

  4. I know this has probably been asked or discussed many times but in my recent "dive" into everything Disney I noticed that Sam's Club offers the "Disney Dollars" at a small discount(150.00 in Disney Dollars for 143.00 +/-). Realizing that my trip planned will include 2 weeks at Fort Wilderness and Two adult Annual Pass'es, I'm wondering whether these Disney Dollars can be use to purchase the stay at FW and the Pass'es? Seems to me that could be a savings of a couple of hundred dollars or there about?

  5. So, I've been looking at a number of sites on line here...it's amazing how much info there is. Site 1741 looks Great also many of the 1800 loop look good. While I enjoy sitting outside waving to others walking by, my doggies tend to get excited when other dogs are walking past...so a site without an over abundance of foot traffic would be preferred although I do put up the X-pens with a fabric barrier so as to make passerby's more difficult for the dog's to see...it helps a lot!  Thanks again for all the great info and suggestions for app's and such.

Personally, I recommend the annual passes if you're already getting 10-day Park Hoppers. I can't imagine the price to be that much different. An AP really changed how we "do" Disney - it is much more relaxed. We don't mind stopping in for just a couple of hours and don't feel like we "wasted" a park day.

I think I'll overlap with you in October a bit. I'm still not positive where all we are staying- it'll either be the Fort or TTO.

A fair warning for TTO, fill up your fresh water tank when you get there. Power + water outages are unusually common.

Thank you the heads up regarding TTO! I check the TT Forum's often and see that they are always having issues there with water/power. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we pick a good site loop...

  7. Great sites....I did load MDE and the free version of "Lines", I'll subscribe to Lines when I get closer to departure. Thank You so much. Oh, I have a couple of those recharging devices to keep the phone going on those long days. Are there recharging stations located inside the Park's at all?

I'm kind of struggling with just how much planning I need to do or just winging it a bit seeing that I'll be around for 7 weeks total......ahhhh guess I'll figure that out one way or another!

  8. OK....great responses so far. We have a younger Mini Schnauzer too and two older King Charles Spaniels(long hair) but we normally set up a few X-pens so they can sit outside with us and do there business if needed. The older doggies(12/13 years old) aren't much into walking but I may pull them about in a wagon on occasion(I know, the things we do for the fur babies).  I'm guessing that while at the Fort we will try to do our Park Hopping during the morning and late afternoon/early evening, spending the hottest part of the day with the kids, having lunch, napping, swimming etc etc. I suppose that will be on a day to day basis. Were planning most meals at the RV but I'm hoping for suggestions for MUST do shows, dinners(for instance, I should make reservations for the HoopDeDo review at the Fort???) keeping in mind that its been 20 year's since we've visited.  I'm figuring the time we are off site, we can come and go as we please  to do a few hours here or a few hours there, visit the Animal Park or Water Park's(depending on if one or both are open).

What are the Parade/Firework shows going on during the September/Oct time period? I see the Park's have earlier closing times from what I've read so far?  As I was saying I'm certainly open to other suggestion's either for particular site I should look for or the better loops to ask about when arriving(1600-1900 loops)?  Don't mean to keep jumping all over the place here but I see so many talk about certain other themed Restaurants they always go to when visiting, we're not opposed to this either although spending time just relaxing at the Fort is OK too, but will do the most relaxing off site. I'm sure I have hundred's of questions and open to any idea's...Thank You all so much!!!!

  9. So I made some reservations today....will be at the Fort Sept 19 thru Oct 2, but will arrive at Thousand Trails Orlando on Sept 4th and back there Oct.2-23rd. A total of 7 week's in the area so  I think we may go for the annual Pass rather than the 10 day Park Hopper ticket. This way we won't have to rush........and it will give us plenty of opportunity to explore whats taken place in our 20 year absence.

  10. OK....it's been 20+ year's since we've been to the Fort. We will be in a 37' MH with a car in tow, we have three small doggies(pet loop), don't really mind being isolated and/or away from things and it appears cost's are down in Sept. I thought I remember a complete survey of all campsites but in lieu of this....how about some site numbers to look at. We're thinking right now to do two weeks at the Fort and then another two week's outside of the Park to see other sites. It's a long trip for us, were coming from So. Calif. HELP!!!
