  1. If you're still within the warranty period, amazon will usually replace a broken kindle no matter the reason....historically, you're allowed one "oops, I broke it" free replacement. We had to do that with dd's kindle. After the warranty period, if you talk with kindle customer service (not the general amazon number, but the kindle specific number) during the weekday, during PST business hours, they may replace it for free anyway, and if not, they'll probably offer you a substantial discount.

We are a 3-kindle family, one for each of us. All are older kindle keyboards that have the free 3G access. We don't have internet on our phones, so we use the kindle to check email and such when we're out and about. Mine is nearly permanently attached to my hand, I love it so much. I read out in the sun whenever possible, so the e-ink, no-glare screen is a must for me.

I have to LOL at Lou's comment! I think you were channeling my fellow boards members of the Friends of the Library! I just spent a the weekend with them, working our annual book sale, and most of them think I'm nuts for loving my e-reader so. But when I gave them a chance to play with mine, and they saw the changeable text size and how easy it is on the eyes, they changed their tune! I pretty much always have 3 books going at once, so the kindle is great for having them all with me, all of the time.

  2. Step 1, cutting out the bazillion pieces required to make this "easy" dress, is complete. I thought there'd be like 3 pieces.....there were significantly more. Step 2 is going to involve a hot shower, because after 3 hours sitting on the hardwood floor completing Step 1, my back is wrecked. At this point, I bow down to anyone who charges less than $1000 for a handmade dress, because that's how much you'd have to pay me to do this again....and I haven't even started sewing yet!

  3. We've been to each park once. We much preferred Blizzard Beach, but that may have been because we went there early in our trip and on a cloudy day! Our TL day was blazing hot with crazy long lines, and we really didn't enjoy it at all. Blizzard Beach has a much longer family raft ride with very little wait, a fun lazy river, and a calmer wave pool. It also has a nice area designated for younger children and their parents. I don't do slides, but DH and DD really enjoyed the ones at BB.

  4. What the Fort?? The point of chipping a dog is so that if they get lost the LEGAL OWNER can be contacted asap. As you said, what are the odds the shelter is going to quickly track you down if they ever get a call?

Our rescue group chips dogs too, but we always have the adopters change the contact information over.

Or at least we give them all the information and tell them to. Some people never do. (sigh)

Same with ID tags. We put ID tags on all our foster dogs with our 800# on them and tell new adopters to switch them over immediately to tags with THEIR contact information on them.

Yeah, the contract I signed with them said that the info on the chip is their info only and cannot be changed; I also agreed in this contract to put their info on his ID tag. The message I got from them verbally and via the contract is that even though I was paying for and adopting the dog, they (the HS) were to be the first emergency contact in all cases. This is the organization who called me a week after his adoption to follow up and see how he was doing. He wasn't doing well, but they didn't care. Then they called me a week after that for the same reason, because they had lost a bunch of paperwork and weren't sure whether we'd been called. We've worked with them a number of times on different things, and the right hand never knows what the left is doing......I'm quite sure that if someone called them with our dog, they'd lose the message and we'd never hear from them. Not to mention the fact that we've had him for 6 years....if they can't hold onto paperwork for a week, it's unlikely it'll be available in 6 years, lol!

As much as I'm a fan of rescues, the two we've worked with here have been horrible when it comes to administration and personal interaction. I've volunteered to help at the Humane Society many times, both in person and via email, and they never get back with me. Sorry for the hijack....it's just frustrating how inept these groups are here and how many more animals they could probably place if they'd get their act together and accept help when offered!

  5. Our dogs have Boomerang tags....best thing ever! They slide on the collar, so they don't hang or jingle, and the engraving doesn't wear off. We'd still be on our originals if we didn't keep changing phone numbers and having to update! One of our dogs was microchipped at the Humane Society where we adopted him, and their info is on the chip and they wouldn't let us change it. That bugs me to no end, because they are extremely disorganized and unprofessional, and I have great doubt that we'd get our dog back if they were contacted instead of us. I just hope that if he's ever lost, the finder will use the tag info and call us first!

  6. We wash ours inside out on the permanent press or delicate cycle, and then air dry them on a rack. On the whole, I hate glitter, but I've discovered that glitter on a shirt is far more tolerable than glitter on a dance costume, which seems to coat every surface in my house each June! You will lose a little in the wash, but I've been surprised at how well they hold up.

  7. Awesomest donut ever!! It sounds like a great trip.....it seems all great trips have a few challenges along the way, but you handled them like a pro. I've never traveled that far west, so it was interesting to see. We have family in Houston, so we just might make it to TX someday! Thanks for sharing!

  8. BUNNY!!!!!!!!! (I love bunnies.) Seeing the Lay's truck there....not cool. That is more reality than I care to see at the Fort. I don't think I've ever gotten up before 9am at the Fort, but on our trip this fall, I swear I am going to get up early one morning and poke around before it gets all full of people. I love those wide-open views. Thanks so much for the great TR and for sharing your photos!

  9. So neat....I love it! Those pix don't look like they were taken from a moving monorail, Dave (or you have much steadier hands than I do!) I didn't even notice the stairs as we whizzed by. It makes the EWP feel more intentional, seeing the setup (vs. it magically appearing out of nowhere, lol!) So are there people on the barges when it comes out, I wonder? And will I get into huge trouble if I try to make my way over to the staging area for a closer look in person, I wonder? I really want to see it up close now!

  10. I won't use the monorails in a thunderstorm. I have heard to many times power goes out and your stuck with no A/C no thank you. But who knows you can't believe everything on the net.

I am hyperventilating at the mere thought of this.

I didn't know that about the boats either....thanks for the info!

  11. It's been 4 years since we saw the HDDR, and DD was having a lot of health issues at the time and doesn't remember the show, so I think it's time to do it again during our trip this fall. Last time, we had Category 1 seating, and our table was literally crammed up against the piano near the stage. It wasn't a very good spot, but I suppose somebody had to sit there.

This trip, we're trying to reduce our budget, and I'm wondering whether Category 2 or 3 seating would be ok. Have any of you sat at corner tables on the floor or in the balcony, or along the sides in the balcony? Can you still see the show? I can't remember what it's like inside, since we sat so close to the front and didn't really see anything other than the stage and the piano. Is the rear seating elevated at all, or is it all the same?

  12. Sounds like your wife deserved the Yachtsman after hanging with the heathens all day, lol! You can sleep well tonight knowing you did the right thing (just not the peaceful thing or the relaxing thing or the oh-so-delicious steak thing  ). I'm sure they'll be angels soon (whenever bedtime comes!)

  13. Here's a typical example of bad info posted by a self proclaimed WDW expert, a moderator.

To protect the inocent I will not divulge which board it is and I have paraphrased the response.

Someone asked if the All-Stars resorts share buses.

    The moderators answer was:

The buses to Sports and Music tend to share, but Movies has their own bus a lot of the time.

I don't think each resort has their own bus...but most times will not be combined.

    Let's break this down.

The buses to Sports and Music tend to share. WRONG

but Movies has their own bus a lot of the time. WRONG

I don't think each resort has their own bus. WRONG

but most times will not be combined. WRONG

There's a lot of that out there, for sure. I only post when I'm sure I'm right. Then again, everyone else responding probably feels just as strongly that they're right, so there you have it! Some posters make me laugh with how wrong they consistently are, but then I feel bad for the people who don't know yet that those posters are whack-a-doodle and are taking that info as gospel. I'll continue to drop veiled hints about other, more knowledgeable boards when appropriate, until they kick me out......or until school starts, when I'll be too busy to fight BFI (bad Fort info.)
