  1.  Referral check is on it's way to Kelly.

If you don't, do you know about the FWRR spiking custom for Fiends?

Unless you're riding the CM bus at Epcot, you want find me on a bus, not that you would when I was driving a bus.

    Fixed it.

Post your site number and Fort days so you don't have to stumble.

Tigger will not recognize 2001g8tor.  Real names are Brian, wife Sylvia and son Brian.  We had a site next to her 2-3 years ago at the beginning of the Christmas season.  They checked in [with their HUGE rig] a couple days before we left and were working on setting up their "Santa's fireplace" display if I remember correctly.  It was a white pop up tent and she was hanging sheets for the walls.  We had two light up gators pulling a sleigh and a nativity setup I believe.  It was in the section they call the clover leaf, maybe the 1700 loop, by the central comfort station.

I have read mentions of this spiking custom however I don't know what it entails... I'm envisioning some type of frat house hazing ritual =).

Next Fort trip will be 12/12-12/18.  Counting down the days!!!

  2. This site is great! It has truly been a treasure trove and the more I read the more dots get connected. Thanks to tiggerinbama for recruiting me.

I've taken an interest in the FWRR and have seen several of the more obvious remnants over the past few trips to the Fort. I hopped on here tonight to do some research to prepare for next month where I hope to break away from my wife and 4 yr old long enough to do some bushwhacking to further investigation the route.... Maybe even find a cool artifact or two. My wife thinks I am nuts but that's OK. The old map is very helpful (thanks to those who shared it). I intend to jump over to amazon to check out the book.

I've read in other threads here about "finding the Lou" while hitching bus rides. I told my wife about this past time during our trip last month and she laughed. While reading some RR related posts on here referencing a cranky bus driver I correctly inferred they were talking about "the Lou." More dots have been connected! One day if I'm fortunate enough to stumble upon and meet "the Lou" it would make my wife and I smile. Until then I'll (hopefully) be the one sniffing around the "wilderness" this December checking out some history.

  3. I get to drive a variety of carts at work. Opinins: The fold down windshields are essentially air conditioning. I don't like the big nobby tires even though they look cool.... Not as smooth a ride. The rain curtains are a relatively cheap accessory... One weekend of camping in the rain and you'll want. Get a speed chip! The fold down back seats that convert to a flat place to haul something are also nice.

  4. We have used Kenny more than a handful of times drama and issue free. We're staying 6 nights this December and were quoted $210 for a four seater. It sounds like the mouse has ratcheted down on outside vendors so he can enjoy his considerably higher rental rates. When we made the reservation I was told we may or may not have to drive to a local grocery store to pick up and return the cart. The store is supposed to be a six minute drive from the fort. The good thing is Kenny apparently has a trailer he's loaning free of charge to do the cart transport on and off property. There was even mention of a loaner truck if one doesn't have a hitch. Very trusting! Based on past experience I'm not expecting any issues even if the pickup and drop off arrangement changes. The cheaper rates and nicer carts makes the decision clear in my opinion!

  5. Some good news is I have noted a lot of surge arresters installed in Fort distribution panels. The ones I have seen are far better than anything you can likely buy at an RV store. Look for the boxes on the sides of panels that are a little smaller than a shoe box. The drawback to these is they won't do anything for an under voltage occurrence.

  6. I make vinyl signage on the side. Many folks use a "stripe off wheel" made by 3M to remove both the vinyl and the adhesive. It's a real time saver. I have used it on gel coat (boats) and painted surfaces with no worry of damaging the surface. I have not tried it on the travel trailer yet so be warned. There is a product named "rapid remover" that works well and is specifically for the adhesive used on vinyl graphics.

  7. I agree that Fort Desoto is really nice. Some of the sites are tight and others you simply can't get in if you have a larger rig. Suggest noting the easier access sites on your first trip so you know what to reserve for the next trip. Making reservations is easy however any changes, cancellations or needing "service" of any kind is a real pain since the county employees very rarely answer the phones. I believe they allow reservations up to six months in advance. The place fills up quick and you pretty much need to make reservations 6 months in advance. No sewer hook ups in you site. Water and electric only. The restrooms and shower stations have always been clean. All of this being said Fort Desoto is a really nice place to go!
