I think we're going to drive a little farther next time and stop at Dove's Rest in Mariana Florida.

We have stopped at this campground the last 4 times we have gone to Disney. It was never much, but it was a easy on and off place to overnight. We made reservations to stay this year. We got there about an hour before posted office closing time. They assigned us a sight and when we pulled in, there was no electricity connections. The empty box was still there. Leonard walked back to the office and everyone had already left at least 45 minutes before closing time. There was a phone number posted to call, so he called and they put us in the only other spot available. It was a narrow spot close to the office, but we pulled in. Our built in surge guard wouldn't let us use the electricity on that sight. The only thing we could do was plug in to the 30 amp pole of the motorhome beside us that was using the 50 amp plug. We later found out that all the others in those sights didn't even have reservations. They had just pulled in and gotten sights. I think they should have kept a spot for us that worked, since we had reservations.

OK. Should I be worried that I rode Rockin Roller Coaster at least 4 times while I was there?

When you walk out of Hollywood Studios go to your left away from the buses. You will see a boat dock there.
Thank you! :) We're going to have to take the boat between those parks.
-
If you exit through the International Gateway between England and France it is right on the other side of the turnstiles, It takes you to Boardwalk, Beach Club, I think Swan and Dolphin, and then on to Hollywood Sutdios.
If I'm at Hollywood and want to go to Epcot, where do I get on the boat?
-
I've never ridden the boat from Epcot to HS. In fact, I don't even know where it is.

I saw that. I would not have been happy to have been in that loop with all those people. It was crazy.
It could have been better if they had adult supervision, instead of being allowed to run wild at all hours. My daughter said several were sticking their hands up in the ice machines at the comfort station. and getting ice. My husband had to take our dog to another loop to walk him. Thank goodness we were only there 2 days after they arrived.
-
The 500 loop is full of tents now. A church group came in Thursday afternoon. Some sites have a small camper and several tents. I think there are around. That loop isn't big enough for 40 kids to be riding bikes and scooters at the same time, btw.

We will be here 8 days, October 4-12.

I'm excited, as well as a little nervous. This is out first long trip in our motorhome. We did go to Tunica a few weeks ago. That's 5 hours each direction, but no major interstates. I'm always nervous when we have a different RV for our first big trip. I absolutely was horrified pulling our first camper, a pull behind. Feeling the 18 wheelers when they went around us was terrifying! Our first trip with it was to the Fort. We never felt them at all with the 5th wheel, but do feel them in the motorhome, to some extent.

Thanks everyone.

Donnie forgot to mention that you'll probably need to stop at the Ale House for a drink after you leave universal. Wait get some beer at the 7-11 and bring it back t the fort. I don't want you drinking and driving.
I won't be the one driving.
-
One more question. How long does usually take going that route?
-
Thanks Donnie. :) That sounds easy.
-
We will be driving, but don't know the back roads. I have heard there is a better way than hitting I4, so that is why I asked. We have taken a left out of the Fort and found a WalMart once.
-
What is the quickest, easiest way to get to Universal from the Fort?
-
If you are looking for something easy I got bad news. There is no such thing. Spend some time at an RV supplier or Camping World. I have used their black streek remover and it works as advertised. Any good soap should work but you should invest in a long handled brush that is ment to be used on vehicle finishes. That is the easiest way to clean the nooks and cranies. Many people swear by Dawn dish soap and BarKeepers Freind to remove rust stains and other stains. You really have to rinse a lot with the dawn. I tried to polish my MH once and thought my arms would fall off. Then I heard about people who use a floor polish on their RV's. Its called Zepp High Traffic floor polish. You get it at Lowes for $16. You pour it in a spray bottle and after you wash your RV you spray it on an area and wipe it in so it has an even coat. If your gelcoat is oxidized you may have to do 2-3 coats. You wipe it on with a microfiber cloth. I did two coats and my MH looks like new. I don't know how it did it but it either took off or hid the oxidation. It also works on units with a full paint finish. If your unit has corrogated aluminum siding I am not sure if this technique would be particularly effective.
Is it OK to use on decals, or do you have to keep it off the decals?

We had a Coachman Class C. It rode very rough. I would look around for a used diesel C. The ones with the Ford F450's all ride rough and don't handle well, especially if an 18 wheeler passes you.

I just noticed your in Alabama, do you have any favorite campgrounds within a few hours drive? in the infamous words of Joe Dirt...
"we're newwwwwwwwww.. we don't know what to dew......" :rofl2:
ahem.. sorry, but seriously, we have only been in Alabama a couple of years and new to camping so we'd love to find some places closer to home to check out!
We like Little Mountain Marina, just past Guntersville State Park. It's close to Huntsville also. Point Mallard, here in Decatur, is nice, but doesn't have a pool,, unless you pay to go to the water park. They also don't take reservations in the summer. Have you checked out Monte Sano State Park? I've heard it was nice, but have never been there.

Huh?
There has always been a tetherball court located between 807 and 809. I have camped in 809, and the tetherball court is closer to it than 807. I can't imagine that they sacrificed a site on the 800 loop for a tetherball court.
I will certainly take a look at this the next time I am at the Fort, but I have a hard time believing that a site has disappeared.
TCD
We looked several times and could never find a site 807. There was an 807 marker, but we never could find the site.
Take pics when you find the site.
-
We got the site we requested this time and all I did was call a few days before we arrived. We requested site 802, but were assigned 807 at check in. I asked if it was possible to get 802, and she looked and changed it for us. I think 802 was the assigned site to begin with, since there is no longer a site 807. There is a tetherball court where 807 used to be.
Edited to add reception outpost phone #. 407-824-2900

I hope they have it under control by Saturday. Maybe all the smoke will drive all the yellow flies away.
-
I just strolled through "that other place". I didn't see even one mention of the fire. This place has become the best place for fort and Disney information. <3 Just thought I'd throw that bit in here.
-
All the smoke can't be safe for people or pets.
Do not stay at Pecan Point in Dothan Alabama.

We had never had problems before either. I thought you had stayed at Dove's Rest. It may be several years before we go back.
