  1. It was those BabyBel Cheeses from Laughing Cow.  We had a soft-sided cooler we brought in.  I had a stroller and it just stayed under there.  I don't remember any ice packs.  BUT, this was November, so it wasn't very hot that day.  Actually, it was around 78 F - perfect temp for a day at MK!

  2. When doing a full day at Epcot, we usually take the car there for line drop, & take the bus back to FW for our afternoon break. When they close at night, our car is close by, rather than waiting in the que lines for the buses to show up.

Here's my tip for the entry line at Epcot. Go to the far left turnstile marked 'Princess Breakfast' or something like that. Check with the CM there to make sure that this set of turnstiles will change to regular entrance at opening. Then stand off to the side so those that do have breakfast ressies can get through. At opening, they usually will keep only the one turnstile reserved for the breakfast people, but the other 2 (or 3?) will be regular entry.

It is kind of fun watching the expressions on peoples faces when you walk right past the longer lines, stretching past the ticket booths, and up to the Princess line & just stand there. Most have the expression of 'Look at those idiots, don't they know they have to be in one of these lines to get in !?', and a few you can tell are thinking, "Do they know something we don't?'

    Reason # 632 I LOVE!! FF.net!

    Thank you!

  3. I read that the best way to request a site is by what it offers rather than a number.  Also, it was recommended to me to fax my request.  Here is what I faxed, with my personal info removed:

The fax# for the Fort is: 407-824-3508

    Date of fax

TO: Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground Site Assigner

    FROM:  Name and Address

SUBJECT: Site Request for (Dates of your stay)

    RE: Reservation # XXXXXXXXXXXX

I am really looking forward to my stay at the Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground and am writing about campsite requests. I do understand that these are only requests and cannot be guaranteed.

If possible, I would like a site in Loop XXXX with a site that will accomodate the following: (specify all equipment including screen houses, etc.).  I wish to be in the XXXX loop because (state reasons).

Thanks so much for your help, and once again I?m really looking forward to my visit to Ft. Wilderness Resort and Campground.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at XXX-XXX-XXXX or by email at [email protected]

    Sincerely,

    Your name

  4. I belong to a group who avoid foods with petro-chemicals (crude oil) in them due to the neurological changes they cause.  Many of the members rave about how great WDW is at catering to their special needs, even having chefs come to the table to discuss what would be safe for their children to have. I have never taken advantage of this (Disney food prices for my group are way out of our budget), but it is so great to know that this exists.

For more info on how petro-chemicals can effect you and your family, you can got to http://www.feingold.org and feel free to pm me any questions you have.

  5. Homeschool, baby!

It's a mixed blessing -- on the one hand, we can travel more freely. On the other hand, we always bring the school work with us! (Usually, anyway. I'm not a total hardnose.) We can usually get some stuff knocked off the to-do list either early in the morning or in the evening, so we're not scrambling to catch up when we get home.

    Kate

We homeschool also.  One off the things I love about homeschooling is we set our own schedule.  We usally do school all summer, when it is too hot in SC to go out much.  Then we can take time off for Disney and such with no worries.
  6. If you are coming during Food & Wine - all bets are off.  However, now that I've said that, during F&W it's just the food/booze booths and the walkways that are jam-packed.  You can't take beer on the attractions!!

Yikes!  It is during the Food and Wine Festival.  Would that make doing the World Showcase difficult?  We are planning to go mid-week on a non-Magic Hour day.  Now I am starting to re-think everything.  Argh!

  7. I like mine a little burnt with mustard and relish.

BUT, the best hot dogs I ever had were in Bethlehem PA.  There are two or three small restaurants near Lehigh U. that make Greekers.  They are hot dogs topped with Greeker Sauce, mustard, and raw, chopped, white onion.  When I asked what Greeker sauce was, I was told it is the stuff scraped off the grill at the end of the night.  LOL  I have not had any in many years, but I still miss them.  I have found a recipe on AllRecipes for Grrek Sauce for hot dogs.  I might try that this week to see if it is close to what I remember.

Like em little burnt with my home made vegetable relish.

Could you share the recipe for this?  Please???

  8. If it were just me, I would go back to the Magic Kingdom, esp. for 4yo princess fan.  My 14yob voted for Animal Kingdom, as that is where his interests are.  But the rest voted for Epcot, so I am trying to make that great for them.  I  deally, I would like to spend the next few months studying the various countries and cultures and then count Epcot as a homeschool field trip.  ;D

Thanks for all the input everyone!

  9. We only go to one park per trip.  Last time was Magic Kingdom.  This time, we are hoping to go to Epcot.  It doesn't sound like much to some, but with all there is to do at Fort Wilderness, plus Downtown Disney, and touring other resorts, we have a blast!

That is actually a brillant idea to do one park a trip, ecspecially with small kids and to be honest, I hadn't thought about touring the resorts until you posted that, most excellent idea!  Last trip my kids chose to stay in the campground the last day instead of do a park.  I'd love to hear more about your camping recipes, if i read correctly you did alot of precooking and baking before you left.  I had the best ofim intensions to do that but it just didnt work out :rofl2:

We were only there four nights, so I did pretty standard camping stuff for dinner.  The first night, we had cold BLT's.  I had pre-cooked the bacon, so dh just sliced the bread, lettuce, and tomatoes, and built the sandwiches.  I wanted to pre-slice everything, but he said this worked better for him.  nother night, we did Frito snack bags with beans and cheese.  I got that recipe from a girl scout site.  The other two nights were hot dogs and hamburgers.

Most of the pre-cooking I did was baking.  Due to food sensitivities, I make all our breads, rolls, etc.  On vacation, we also have lots of homemade cookies, muffins, and quick breads.  I also made GORP from raisins, peanuts, and Sunspire candies - like M&M''s but no artificial colors or flavors.

Touring the resorts was fun.  We just went to the ones we could get to by boat or monorail, except Animal Kingdom Lodge.  :rofl2:

  10. well maybe there isnt.. I thought I read somewhere there was two but it doesnt matter, we shall still have a grand time!  Are you able to get all of the kiddos on a a regular sized golf cart or are you renting a six seater from somewhere?  I sorta think we will all fit, the 3 big kids in the back, baby on my lap and the 2year old between me and daddy.. but I worry about the Disney Po Po pulling us over.  I have reserved a cart with Kenny but will continue to explore all my options.  I had forgotten about he GC parade, now I have something to add to my "to do" list.    Does your family do the parks everyday?  I'm debating what type of tickets we need.  I wasted alot of money last year so I'm trying to be alittle smarter and not buy much more than we really need.  My older kids REALLY want to go to Universal as well, not sure if we can do that in just one day (ok so it's really mom that  dying to see Harry Potter ???)  So much to do, 1 week just doesnt seem like enough time but .. gasp.. that's all that I can get dad to sign off on :rofl2:

We won't all fit in a golf cart, but will probably just take turns going looping with a few at a time.  We are scheduled to arrive around 5:00pm on the 31st, so will miss the GC parade, but hope to ToT.  There is a chance I can talk my dh into going down a day early, depending if he is still drumming in a church praise band then.

  11. Fast passes are such a blessing!  They have something called a fast pass (or something like it) at Six Flags, but you have to pay extra for it.  I love that Disney's is free and so user friendly!

Most fastpass machines also have a cast member manning them, so you can ask them for assistance.  They are so very helpful and friendly - don't hesitate to ask them for any help you need.

    Have a wonderful trip!  :bravo:

  12. If we start using acronyms for everything, you wind up with sentences that look like:

"FW moved the GC rental pickup from the BB to the FD."

which doesn't communicate a darn thing to anyone, whereas

"Fort Wilderness moved the golf cart rental pickup from the Bike Barn to the Front Desk."

isn't really that much harder to type, and is much more newbie-friendly.

Yes, but can I give my self a pat on the back for deciphering half of that before i looked at your translation?  And I haven't even finished my coffe yet!  :bravo:
