  1. Another TCD trip report! So glad to see that you found another real man of genius. Interested in hearing why you are so high on site 617.  Headed down at the end of this week. I am sure you will be around at some point.  Hopefully, I will run into you again.  That is a mean looking margarita machine.  As always learning a lot and enjoying the report.

  2. Seriously considering another long road trip this summer (especially if gas prices continue to drop).  The highlight of the trip will be Disneyland.  I have already learned a lot and look forward to the rest of the report.  It sounds like the area surrounding the parks are safe places to be at night.  I have already done a little research on a few campgrounds that are close to DL.  Interested to see if you have any information on nearby campgrounds.  I am looking forward to the rest of the report.

  3. I know Williston well- it's the one town that I drive through after leaving 19 to head to Gainesville.  Do you stay at the RV park there just east of town?  Or someplace closer to 75?

No argument from me there.  But, I'd still probably take 75 and then the Turnpike if I was coming from the north.  No small town speed traps, no farmers or log trucks,  and good roads the whole way.

We stay at Williston Crossings!  It is has two gated entrances. It is a very nice park. In the winter months you can hardly shake a stick in there.  It is covered up.

  4. I've never heard of early October being a busy time on the roads- certainly not like a major holiday.

The stretch of 75 north of Ocala is way better than the stretch south, which is only two lanes in each direction, and currently is under construction.

I travel US 19/27 south of Tallahassee quite often. There are quite a few little towns and speed limit changes along that route, but the road is good, and traffic is usually light.  Where would you cut over to the east from there, though?  Wouldn't you end up on 75 anyway?

TCD is right US 19/27 is a good route. I too live in North Alabama. I have tried every possible route that you can think of.  I can do without going through Dothan.  Too many red lights for me.  I agree with Carol, I prefer to go through Atlanta.  We like to stop over at a place called Williston, Florida on the way down.  It is in between Gainsville and Ocala.  It is located off of 19/27.  I love the drive from Williston to Ocala there are many horse farms located on this route.  We then hit 75 again and head for the turnpike.  We then look for one of our favorite signs, Hartzog Road.  I love the journey to and from the fort (especially the trip to the fort).  I only wish that I lived as close as TCD.  I hope you have a safe trip and a great time.  I would love to visit the fort in the fall.  I will have to settle for another TCD trip report.

  5. Great update!  Lots to comment on!

I've never seen that CM with the bird, but I do love the street performers at HS.  It's my favorite park to just kill a little time in, thanks to those guys.

I totally agree that the 4th FP+ is a scam.  Even when I went right at park opening at HS to try to run the FP+ hack with extra MBs, all the rides that you actually need a FP for were either all sold out or the return times were for late that evening.  Just not workable for us at all.

My dad would totally wear one of those Paul Revere hats with all the pins if he had one.  Not that I would approve, but he would be all over that.

Do they make everyone wear the helmets for ice skating?  I'm guessing so since it looked like everyone had one on.  I really wish we had time to do that area.  There's just never enough time to do it all!

    Looking forward to more!

Me and my five year old daughter watched this street performer back in July.  He did not have the bird with him.  However, he was performing a skit with a lady.  We had a blast watching him.  We laughed and laughed as he acted out a skit about their first date.  He got a lot of help from the crowd as he made this story up.  It was a lot of fun.

  6. LOL.  That sounds about right.

Sadly, that could be true as well.

Since this is listed as the address of their "Family Foundation" I wonder if it's owned by the so-called not-for-profit company that they operate?  I sure hope that the Foundation didn't pay for this trip.  But, I wonder.

Thanks, I appreciate that.  There are a lot of dumb rules at Disney, but I still try to follow them, whether I personally agree with them or not.  Most of the time, it's easier to just go along rather than make a stink.

It truly was a fun night.  I am not aware of anything of this magnitude having happened at the Fort before.  There was the Sweet 16 party for the daughter of the man who owns the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team a couple of years ago, which also had a private party on the beach and a fireworks show.  But, they didn't have a private concert beforehand.

    Thanks.

Hula Queen?  Did you help her pick that name?

Before I forget- make sure that you watch the Luke Bryan Roller Coaster video- it was shot along 30A, and you will surely recognize where some of the scenes were shot.

I remember you making a comment about the song on the thread that night.  I was just on my phone, and the posts were going so fast that I never got a chance to reply to you.

I hear the song all the time now, and I like it as well.  But, I liked it from the start because of the video.

I agree.  Had I known that I was going to be asked three times to move, I would have pushed back at the beginning.  In the end, though, it didn't matter.  None of the spots allowed me to see into the pavilion, and I could hear fine from all three spots.

    Great job!

    That's a very good 15th post.

This is the great thing about FF.net.  It attracts great people, and we all have an instant common bond from our love of the Fort.

I didn't realize you were on a 15 night trip.  Lucky!

Was Maximus with you on this trip?  I wish I could have met him.

    And so it starts . . .

    TCD

Maximus was with us on the trip!  He stayed in the trailer most of the time.  He does not like the heat!  We were very blessed to be at the Fort for 15 nights.  I only wish we lived closer.  Our five year old loves Disney and we sure have a great time watching her.  I know that our second daughter will love it just as much.  From reading your trip reports I know that you have made a lot of special memories with your girls at Disney.

  7. Wait for it!  Wait for it!  Ok here it is post #15.

That day at the Fort was filled with so much fun and excitement.  I enjoyed watching things unfold throughout the day.  I am honored that I am included in a TCD trip report.  His trip reports always have great information and cool pictures.  I was honored to meet the famous TCD.  I still can't believe how close we were to the fireworks.  I was also amazed at how many people had no idea that Luke Bryan was performing at the pavilion.  I enjoyed creeping around the fort trying to find information to post.

I have never formally introduced myself so here goes.  My wife and I love camping at the fort.  We have a five year old daughter, a 4 month old daughter, and an English bulldog named Maximus.  We make at least one trip to the fort every year.  We live north of Birmingham, Al and are both educators.  On this particular trip we did 15 nights at the fort and we could have done 15 more.  What a great trip!

  8. I was down at the TCD Ranch when the family arrived. They hitched up two carts and loaded the family up. They brought out a horse and put him in the blacksmith area. The blacksmith said that he was told to act like he was working on the horse. As soon as the family was loaded up he turned the fire off and put the horse back in the barn. He was not kidding he was just putting on a show. The horse never obtained new shoes. Three cowboys/cowgirls were on quarter horses in front of the wagons. They then led the wagons through parts of the campground.

The blacksmith also told me that the family had been doing things like this all week. He said that they had rented out a park one night. He also said that they rented out one of the water parks for a day. I said yeah they even hired out their own country music star. He smiled and said that he did not know anything about that. I said sure and laughed. I have never seen this many Disney big dogs at the Fort. Disney security people are all over the place.

  9. Love that clackey is coming out of lurkdom to help us out as a Fiend on the scene!

    :yourock:

I have been too busy reading and learning.  This website has helped me a lot over the years (on our annual trip).  It has saved me time and money at both the Fort and in the parks.  Great information is posted here everyday.  Creeping on the private fire works party has been a blast.  We will be hanging out around down by the docks tonight.  I hope to hear a concert and watch a great fireworks show.  We took a day off from the parks due to the fact that Frozen is playing at the sing along tonight.  My daughter loves Frozen. Their will be more action at the Fort tonight than in the parks.  I am pumped!  I also met TCD and one of the twins today. He also spiked me!

  10. Just got back from a bike ride.  I noticed three nice tour busses behind the TCD horse barn.  The individual who will be performing was also doing a mike check. I am not a Country Music buff. The man was singing a song about a country man.  I asked a lady who that was singing and she stated that it was Luke Bryan.  I can't say that for sure  because I am not up to date on the latest and greatest country music stars.  I can tell you that this is not your average dj at the local bar and grill.  Disney people had it surrounded like Fort Knox.  Should be interesting.

  11. I just got off of a boat from the MK.  One of the boat captains asked if we were going to be here Saturday night.  I told him that we were.  He said that there would be a private fire works party on the beach.  I asked him what time?  He said that he did not know a specific time.  He assumed that it would take place between11 p.m. to 12 a.m. due to the fact that the boats will not run during that time frame.   He also stated that we would not want to miss it.
