  1. The check in person has let us pick our site from the book several times. All we had to do was tell them we were familiar with the site they wanted to give us and it wouldn't work and they got the book out. We were still in the same loop but we're able to choose from several other sites that were available for our stay.

This is where the FF app can come in handy before you drive back there.

Totally have to agree.  Last November we had the same problem.  Thanks to the FF App and the CM's book, everything worked out great.

  2. Below is a link to the Metro System Planner.  If you leave from the Shady Grove Metro on the Red Line and go to Metro Center, change trains at Metro Center to the Orange Line, it will drop you off right at the Capitol. It will take about an hour.   Yes you would have to change trains, bit its not really complicated.  Travelling from Gettysburg to Shady Grove can be a long ride.  Probably at least 90 minutes depending on traffic.  But travelling to DC from anywhere can be a pain sometimes.  That said, the Metro is the way to go.  You will not find parking in DC for a large van + car.  Good Luck.  Your troop will have a really great day.

  3. Heidi-

Thanks for posting! With all your posts lately, you may make it to ten posts by the end of the year!

I have mentioned before that I have kind have accelerated the father/daughter stuff lately. My girls are juniors this year. In a couple of months, we are going to do the college tour thing. A year from now, they will know where they have been accepted, and then it's adios to the old man.

Once my nest is empty, I may be looking for some new "daughters" to adopt. I'll put you on the list.

    Thanks, Nick.

I have heard about the passports, but didn't know what they were. Back in the day, I remember purchasing passports for the girls, which they got stamped as we visited each country. I figured they were something like this. I didn't know they had the food choices listed. I could have used something like that. Especially if it was more waterproof than the guide maps.

    Thanks, Dave!

That was exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Having had bad salmon before, I had no interest in trying the salmon at Canada. But now I will. Also, I would not have thought that the fisherman's pie in Ireland would be very good. I will be looking for that on my next trip, too.

Don't feel bad, Leslie. This TR began and ended in two days.

    Thanks for checking in.

I think your gang would love the F&W Festival.

After your current trips, you ought to plan for a Fall visit!

I'm glad it's on your list!

This is my favorite special event at WDW. I like it much better than the Flower and Garden festival.

That sounds like a fun trip!

Make sure to take some photos of the beer mugs on your son's belt! I hope he doesn't have as many as the guy I met, but I hope he at least has a couple!

Will y'all be at the Fort for that trip?

Oh you betcha!! Somehow this has become an annual tradition (at least for the last 3 years). The fall is the best time for camping. We're going to see the leaves next wk at Shenandoah St. Park in VA. and then clean up the camper for the big trip to the Fort.

  4. We bought our Cameo from Tiara Rv in Indiana.  The whole transaction was done by phone and email.  We already knew what we wanted and only had to nail down prices.  We ordered the camper in August and it was delivered to our house in late October.  The first trip was to the Fort for Thanksgiving in 09'.  Tiara was very easy to work with and took care of organizing the delivery to MD.

Another plug:  Annapolis RV for any service that we need.  We've had some minor problems and they have consistently been pleasant, helpful and taken care of everything.  They communicate w/ Carriage so we don't have to.  The nearest Carriage dealer is about 100 miles from us so its been great that Carriage will allow a local RV shop to warranty service their product.
