They have closed schools here in Manatee county for tomorrow. They will be opening 4 of the shelters this afternoon. They are only predicting tropical storm force wind here but we have a lot of trailer parks in the area. People evacuating the east coast are starting to trickle into the area.

They closed Hillsborough County Schools tomorrow per state request so they could use the schools as shelters for those evacuating from other areas.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.  I don't think she was sleeping when she passed as her eyes weren't closed :(.  but she was lying in her normal position while in her kennel. Of the four dogs, she was by a slight margin my favorite over Minnie and I think my wife's favorite since the passing of Belle.  She really knew how to fill in the gap after both Wrigley's and Belle's passing last year.  Last night and tonight have been weird without her at my wife's bedtime.  Every night she would do this weird rubbing/flopping around/dancing moves for a few minutes before my wife could climb in bed.  My wife called it Psycho Sushi time.  I really regret that I never filmed it.  The other dogs would just stand  there and watch the spectacle each night until she decided she was done.  Here is a video of other Chinese Crested dogs doing a similar thing.  She did what both of these did, but much faster.  It never got old to watch her every night.  That probably didn't help her  heart condition.

Thinking about this made me think if other Chinese Crested dogs did the same thing and it seems they do.

Here is a shot I found of both Minnie and Sushi making it hard for me to work :)

Just because her eyes weren't closed doesn't mean she wasn't sleeping when she passed.  When I had to put my fur baby down, my vet let me know that animals don't/can't close their eyes in death and they are just open.  I even tried to close them after my fur baby passed and they just wouldn't stay closed.  I was glad she warned me because it would have startled me if I hadn't known.  I know you loved Sushi very much and I know she went to sleep peacefully.

We've handed out candy in 300, 500 and last year in 900.  Each time I had around 40lbs.  At one piece per kid, we always run out, it's just a question of when.

I'm usually(99% of the time) in the 2000 loop (once in the 1600 loop) and they don't get too many trick or treaters out there.  That's just the experiences I had the four years I've been at the fort for Halloween.

I have a question, did not get to Fort Wilderness for Halloween last year, Doctor would not let me out of intensive care to go for some reason,  but have a reservation for this year, how does T or T work, do we have a central site for fiends to gather and pass out treats or do we each pass out treats at individual sites. I have a partial site, will it be crowded with kids from outside or will partial sites be some what less active. How much candy should I bring.

I usually stay on the partial sites and at Halloween never had very many trick or treaters coming my way.  By the end, I was giving it away by the handfuls because I didn't want to bring it home.

Some of you may already know our sweet Savannah was hit and killed by a car in front of the house about a month ago.  I saw it and could do nothing.  She was gone in an instant.  She was a rescue dog and she loved the family as much as we loved her.  A few days later Judy said she wanted to get another dog as soon as possible.  She said it would help her adjust to losing Savannah and give her something to do.  A week or so later we went back to the same rescue group where we had gotten Savannah.  We found a gray/black dog labeled as a shui tsu (or however you spell it).  We brought her home and on the way, Judy asked Shawnee what this dog's name should be.  Without hesitation he said "Savannah".  So Savannah it is (or Savannah2 to some).  He had taken Savannah1's loss as hard as anyone in the family.  Savannah1 had taken to Kimberly and Savannah2 is taking to Shawnee. Yes, they pick us as much as we pick them.

I definitely believe they pick us as much as if not more than we pick them.  I got a new puppy, Maggie, in June and she definitely picked me.

You must post a picture of Savannah2.

Let's see, today I have already 1) waited for her to run up to me during a thunderstorm 2) looked behind my rolling chair to make sure I didn't roll onto her tail 3) almost left some dropped chicken pieces on the floor for her to get.

Thanks again, everyone. With so much crap on the internet, it's nice to have a good community with people who care.

It's been 6 and 9 months respectively since my fur babies have gone and I still see them out of the corner of my eye in the bedroom at night or coming out of the bathroom where the litter boxes were, or some other place.  It's gotten a little better but I still miss them.
