I would love to comment on a great TCD TR...but I forget how.
-
I may or may not have missed the first page bragging rights. Not sure. Either way, I just finished page one.
woo hoo.
24 to go.
-
It's on Ronald Reagan Parkway, just off 141, kind of behind South Forsyth High School. Here's their website..... http://www.dutchmonkeydoughnuts.com
A tip, get there early. They have several regular doughnuts that they make every day and rotating specials. The good stuff does sell out though. If you message them on facebook, they will hold doughnuts for you.
Check out this thread where I talked about them and posted some pics. http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/9989-best-doughnut-shop-evah/?hl=%2Bdutch+%2Bmonkey
Good info. We will definitely have to plan a stop there next time we're up that way.
Awesome trip report. Very interesting with the MaMas and the PaPas, Bams and reds, very cool indeed
Thanks! I like reading that sentence "Mamas and the Papas" like the folk group. Makes me laugh.
Wonderful report!!
Thanks!
-
I like how their version of fixing the owl enclosure is to move two plants in front of it.
That's my kind of fixing.
-
Great report!!!! The heat was definitely brought.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! BAM!
I heard you the first time, but thanks all the same.
:rofl2:
-
Great report!!!! The heat was definitely brought.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! BAM!
Thanks!
How did it take you that long to bring that one? That was right in your wheelhouse!
-
For once, we are not making fun of UF. There are signs that say things like Happy Spa and We Bare All all along 75.
Forgot about the We Bare All.
And now that you mention it, we could still make fun of uf.
My dog even makes fun of the gators. I can ask her if she would rather be a gator or dead, and she immediately plays dead.
Bam!
-
Great report! You really know how to end a report in style....bacon donuts! Bravo.
Thanks! Yeah, the bacon doughnut was my ace in the hole.
Trying to catch up
No hurry, this is not the TR that keeps on giving. That's TCD's...I'll never fully catch up on that one.
I'm sorry to see this report end.
You said that you were going to bring the heat, and you did.
Great job!
BAM!
TCD
Me too...this was a fun trip to re-live. Thanks for adding to it!
Bam is right!
You had a lot of great pictures of your daughters in this TR, but this one is my absolute favorite!
Sad to see this TR end.
I agree, and that was actually another MaMa pic. She kind of turned it on once she got to the beach.
Thank You for sharing. ZLONK !
Thanks for reading!
Those were great photos from MaMa.
great trip report
Thanks!

I'm also anti-sprinkles but they are called jimmies dang it! Repeat after me, jimmies!
Jimmies! Jimmies! Jimmies!
Jimmies is one of those um..... establishments not far from my house. Sorry can't chant that without :rofl2:
I don't know what's happening here, but I am starting to feel a little dirty.
Another reason to not like sprinkles I guess.

I consulted google for you. Anna Maria donuts!
Started by a retired cop. Who has the first joke?
http://www.bradenton.com/2013/06/04/4552825/former-police-officer-gets-creative.html
Good work. I had no idea. I just eat things, not read about them so much like DW. In fact, she may have already told me that info.
I don't listen much either.
The view from the breakfast place is amazing! How could you be unhappy there?!?!?
MaMa really redeemed herself with those sunset pics.
You need to visit Dutch Monkey Doughnuts in Cumming, GA. Not only are they the BEST doughnuts ever, they have strawberry iced, and the icing is made daily with real strawberries. They also have a doughnut wrapped in 2 pieces of bacon. Bam!
How could I be unhappy?
Sand.
And heat.
And I'm no so much a breakfast person to start with, so it takes a lot to get me excited (like Trails End).
Even though I don't like the name Dutch Monkey Doughnuts, you have me intrigued. And we have friends off of 141 in Cumming so we are in the area somewhat often. Where is this place?
You're still my hero...
I hope I don't ever let you down.
-
That strip center is unassuming.
There is a Pollo Tropicale in the on-campus food court at FSU. I've never tried it as my DD said it was awful. It must just be that one.
What are these signs on 75 you guys are talking about?
Are you talking about around Gainesville?
TCD
And I quote...
Strippers, need we say more?
Strippers, as seen on Jerry Springer.
They seem to be every few miles all the way down 75.
Seriously.
-
This is the TR that keeps on giving.
There is a lot to comment on.
So I will sum it up in two words...
woo
hoo
-
Way to close a TR with custom doughnuts, more adorable Reds and Mama's killer sunset pics!
Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
BAM!
Thanks!
Thanks for another epic TR CK.
Shwing!
See, that's what I'm talking about. Old school. You should have brought that one from the beginning. Party on.

Day 8: Tuesday, June 18
Good grief. We were gone that many days?
Crazy.
It flew by, too.
Today was our last day, and we intended to spend it on the beach and at the pool.
Last year we tried this same plan, but my truck had other plans. I spent most of the day at the Toyota dealer trying to get it fixed. If you read CKCK 3.0 you’ll know that I got screwed by that dealer. They replaced a fuse and sent me on my way, when they knew that the problem was a $2400 very time consuming repair that was a recall, so they wouldn’t have gotten my money. They told me it was something minor and reset the computer, knowing it would take another day or so to reappear and I would be gone by then. So yes, they sent me back on the road with a golf cart in the back and pulling a trailer back to Georgia.
Not cool.
I was keeping my fingers crossed this year, because I was not going to take the truck to those guys again.
Luckily everything was good and I got to enjoy the day.
I don’t have many pics. The girls are not beach people (apparently they get that from me), but totally dig the pool, so that’s where we spent most of our time.
First my mom wanted to take us to breakfast further up Anna Maria Island. When we went to WDW and then the beach to visit PaPa’s aunt in 1987 we went to this same breakfast joint. They do all you can eat pancakes and cook them in this little hut right there on the beach.
I don’t do pancakes. Not my bag.
So I got something else while everyone else got pancakes.
CKCK is not impressed.
Back then there used to be a big pier that went out into the water. Big pelicans used to hang out on them. I’ve seen the pics.
Several hurricanes took care of that.
I vaguely remembered parts of this place, believe it or not.
No beach pics. Not that you really want to see much of that action.
Dinner:
It has become our tradition to get Leroy Selmon’s barbecue while we're at the beach. PaPa and I go and order (aka sit at the bar while they make our food) and then bring it back.
We dig it.
Now, MaMa is one of these matchy shirt picture people.
I am not.
Last year she bought pink shirts for everyone to wear.
I was not a happy camper.
Luckily this year she bought grey shirts. I can do grey.
You’ll notice that PaPa actually looks somewhat tall in that pic.
That’s because the beach is sloping and I’m on the low end.
In my family I am a giant.
I’m only 5’ 10”.
Too bad Stef isn’t around. I would totally bring up her height right now (or lack thereof).
Apparently no one else understands the “fun” pose.
We hit the pool one more time...
I have to give MaMa some props here.
We all remember her pics earlier in this TR.
They were...well...interesting.
Well, she killed it here:
I wish I could take credit for those.
And that’s it.
Except not.
DW had found some doughnut place on the way northern tip of Anna Maria Island that we had all decided to meet at in the morning.
So...
Day 9: Wednesday, June 19.
Doughnuts.
I forget the name of this place, but they do custom doughnuts. As in, you walk up, pick your icing flavor and toppings, then the lady takes a cake doughnut, puts your icing and toppings on it fresh, then you eat it in the mouth.
Seriously.
We got a variety.
What’s left of a key lime doughnut:
Maple icing and BACON:
Boring vanilla icing and sprinkles (the Reds...)
Have I ever mentioned how I hate sprinkles almost as much as sand?
I do.
They serve no purpose other than to get stuck in my teeth and fall off and get everywhere.
I forget all the other doughnuts we had, but their icings were vanilla, chocolate, caramel, and maple. Why they didn’t have strawberry, I don’t know.
Strawberry icing is easily the best there is. The problem is most doughnut places always put sprinkles on their strawberry icing doughnuts.
Drives me crazy.
They had all kinds of toppings...bacon, sprinkles, graham, sea salt, other things I can’t remember...
And that officially brings this TR to a close.
No more pictures.
No more Redheads for you.
No more extremely witty comments.
No more of my comments either.
Thanks for reading along.
Thanks for commenting. That’s what makes TR’s fun. Otherwise it’s just some loser putting up pics of themselves and talking about themselves.
How lame would that be?
And while we’ve had more onomatopoeias than I could ever imagine, I will leave you with the one that started all of this...
BAM!

Love the family shots!
Someone needs to PM me the Buzz secret.
The secret is you have to be a Galactic Hero.
Bam!
Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang?
Chim-Chimery-Chim-Chim-Cheroo?
Brady just hit 11 this spring. He's a lot less neurotic and obsessive these days (thank goodness!) and sometimes a bit slow to get up but that boy is still ALL GO! To the point that if you don't stop him, he'll run himself ragged and then spend the next day looking pitiful.
Never a dull day indeed!!
As for selective hearing... Bz (who's only 6) has had that from birth.
BABBALOOOOO!!!!!!
Yes, Belle can be real slow to get up. I've been giving her some joint medicine (some bitter/tart cherry somethingorother) and it seems to help a lot. There was a point earlier this summer when we ran out and she could barely get up at night to go out. Of course, that won't stop her from chasing Roxy or going after a butterfly or shadow of a bird earlier in the day...

CKCK - I know what you mean about the music.
Anybody else think its cool they used to have stagecoach and mule rides?
Hey look, you have a Zinger. Had we talked about that in the past? Seems like we might have. We have a ZT26BH. Don't see too many Zingers around.
-
Okay, one comment on the spa and then I'll keep my mouth shut.
If I saw a billboard for "Affordable Spa" while driving down the interstate, I would definitely put that in the same category as a different kind of "spa."
I'm relieved that the Affordable Spa is indeed a reputable place.
That is all.
-
Great video, but what's with the music?
-
Aren't you the guy who likes Mickey's Philharmagic? I rest my case.
(This Pixie is a sassy one...)
So you're saying that Figment is better than Philharmagic?
I'm not even going to justify that comment with an argument.
Despite your sassiness, I look forward to your next update!

There was a DJ from a local country station playing music in front of the church in the last pic. She was explaining about other things that would be happening today including a water ski show and the Kiwanis Chicken Broil. It is hard to tell from the pics, but the street was crowded with people. Most were on our side of the road because there was more shade. If I would have taken pics up and down the street you would have seen the big crowds. It renewed my faith in the American people a bit.
I'm looking forward to this water ski show in a parade. Was that the boat that was supposed to be pulling these skiers down the street?
Can't wait.

Ooh-Eee-Ohh-Ahh-Ahh-Ting-Tang-Walla-Walla-Bing-Bang!!!!
Ooga Chaka!
How have we gotten to this point?
Ahhhh... border collies with broom issues. I know it well.
Love "the look"
SHAZAM!!
I know you do. Belle is 13 years old now. While she really has slowed down a lot in her old age, she is still slightly neurotic and obsessive. I also think she is half deaf now. Either that or her selective hearing has gotten much more selective. Never a dull day with a border collie, right?
-
I'm no spy lol. Or a troll or another harsh names everyone calls each other. Just a mouse nerd wanting to talk about the Fort.
You're in the right place then, but like they said before...you might end up only being a part of one forum if you aren't careful!

Still Day 7 (but not at WDW anymore):
So we had to drive through some torrential rain as soon as we hit I-4. Awesome.
It soon stopped and we were clear for our drive to Anna Maria/Bradenton/Cortez, or wherever the heck we were going. It’s all the same to me.
We were camping at Holiday Cove. We stayed here last year and really like it. Most of the sites are owned...I assume mostly snowbirds. They rent them out the rest of the year. All the sites are fully bricked, and many sites have custom outdoor kitchens and so forth. They don’t rent those.
Regardless, we were only here for two nights so this worked great. The owners and staff here are super nice. The guy even shows you to your site and helps you back in. The site they gave us was pretty difficult to get in, so I appreciated having someone helping.
What you ask? Why didn’t DW help?
I won’t answer that to avoid getting in trouble.
Belle has a broom problem.
Redhead #2 was still rocking the tricycle.
So she got to try out her big sis’s bike.
We headed over to the condo, had some pre dinner bullfrogs, then headed down the beach for dinner.
Bullfrogs?
Basically just limeade and vodka. Frozen limeade concentrate. Make it per the instructions on the can, but substitute one of the cans of water with vodka. Bam.
PaPa used to make them when I was little and I always wondered what they were. Well, some 30 years later I finally found out.
When we got home I put my own twist on them...strawberry vodka.
Even better in my opinion.
We went to the Beach House, which is right on...well...the beach. It wasn’t bad, but MaMa was mad that her daiquiri came in a plastic cup.
She’s persnickety like that.
Some sort of mango salad.
You don’t know how many times I’ve gotten that look in my life.
After dinner we headed back to the condo for some swimming.
The girls had gotten pretty jazzed about swimming after we went at the Fort, so they were super excited to get back at it.
And that was the day.
I only have enough pics left for one more update, so we’ll end this one here.
Tomorrow: more pool, a little beach (I hate sand), more dinner, then finally doughnuts!

10 points to OnkelHans for paying attention.
999,999 points to CKCK for.... Well, getting 999,999 points on Buzz!
And infinity points to the Reds... just because. :)
So paying attention only gets 10 points? That's why I never pay attention.
You're my hero...
I'm glad you're impressed.
Great report! Your girls are just too darn cute.
Thanks! I definitely am lucky!
I ride IASW several times each trip. Does that answer your question?
Yes. And I will add that somehow we totally avoided IASW this year. Not sure how I did it, but I did.
CKCK thanks for the Disney Trip Report, looking forward to the Boom Diggity Boom added beach report !
My pleasure! Glad you've been along for the ride!
Lets recap. Dave wears a granny wig and does the Harlem Shake. So not only does he not let his girls down, he doesn't let us down either!
That's right! I totally forgot about that video. Definitely a classic.
Wow. I am loving this trip report. As a Big Red myself, no not that big...just older...I mean....older than the Reds...I love the pictures.
I will not comment on the size of your redness, but thanks for reading!
I loved this trip report. I loved seeing pictures of your two beautiful daughters. Love their gorgeous hair. My 10 month old son has light red hair and I hope it stays. My mom is red headed and my husband's side also has red hair so we'll see.
Lady Tremaine and her daughters look like they were a lot of fun. :)
Thanks for reading! We have always been a little curious to see if Redhead #1 will lose her redness as she gets older. Her's is a little more strawberry than #2's. So far it's holding on. I'm pretty sure #2 is in it for the long haul. Her's is more red, and she definitely has the attitude to accompany it! It's odd that neither my wife or I know of anyone in our families that had red hair. That gene was definitely buried deep!

Did I miss something in my absence? Does Lou read AND write reports now?
Weird.
