  1. Yup, you're weird.

    And so am I. 8)

I generally book our reservation (room only) at the 499 day mark.

You probably are weird but not because of that.

Just because I would rather drag my camper 1,100 miles from Texas to Florida to stay at a campground hoping to get a glimpse of a big mouse then vacation anywhere else, that makes me weird? On second thought, that does make me weird and I'm proud of it!

We book for Christmas/New years at the first of every calendar year...or earlier. In-between trips we book as soon as we know when we want to go. We don't want to risk the Fort being closed to us. As far as planning, we are almost constantly planning, whether it be restocking the MH, cleaning the MH or GC, putting in a new mod (currently a flat screen TV in front), or whatever. We keep Disney near the front of our minds. :partythree:

We're the same way, constantly planning. To us, spontaneous is a trip that is planned only 6 months to year away. :) I think I spend more time cleaning, maintaining, repairing and modding our trailer then we actual use it for camping, and that's okay with me!

  2. My oldest son is a Cowboys fan.  We were at the Cowboys Draft Party at the Cowboys Stadium last night.  The Cowboy fans were not happy about trading down.  At least 75% of the people left when that happened.  They were even more upset about the pick Mr. Jones eventually took.  On the bright side, my son & I got to see ourselves on the NFL Network.  ;)

As a Vikings fan (I was born in Minnesota), I was excited to see them trade back into the first round to get a receiver and I thank God they didn't bring the Manti Te'o circus to the Twin Cities.

  3. My wife & I just booked our next trip to the Fort the other night.  We check in on June 7th and check out June 21st, 2014!  We actually had these dates on our calendar since our last trip ended back in June 2012, but we couldn't make our reservation for the 2014 trip until a couple of nights ago.  It made we wonder if anybody else plans their Disney trips that far in advance or are we just weird?  :)  We like to go as often as possible, but going every 2 years or so works the best for us because we end up with enough Disney dollars on our Disney Visa to pretty much pay for the campsite and cover the cost for most of the park tickets.  How far in advance do you plan?

  4. We used to tow our 07 Ford Expedition EL behind our motorhome. It has a Remco driveshaft disconnect and Roadmaster brackets, tow bar & brakes. It probably has about 12,000 "toad" miles on it.. Before we had our third child, our toad was my 01 Mustang GT. It also had Roadmaster brackets and tow bar. It had a manual transmission.

Now that we sold the MH and bought a TT, we now use the Expedition as our tow vehicle. I still have the Mustang too. ;)

  5. We are heading to the Fort for the 1st time with our 5er and are looking for a place to stop on the way down. We will be coming from Dallas, TX via I-10 and hope to spend Saturday night somewhere around Tallahassee or closer to the Fort. Any recommendations?

We're leaving Arlington on Friday night when I get off work. We like to take I20 to Shreveport then south to I10. We usually just boondock somewhere near Lafayette. Have fun!

  6. There is no reason for panic. The Transit (not to be confused with the smaller Transit Connect) will replace the E150 & E250 vans. However, the E350 & E450 cutaways will soldier on pretty much as is with minor cosmetic changes for years to come. The Transit is much like the Sprinter and is available in many configurations. It will also have much more efficient & powerful gas V6's as well as a turbo diesel I-5. This has been all but officially confirmed by Ford insiders. The Transit should make a great base for Class B's.

  7. To illustrate one of my complaints about this policy, here's a photo of a campsite I took on Saturday, August 13:

    100_1772.jpg

WDW management advertises premium campsites as suitable for tent campers.

But, since these sites are all pavement, a lot of folks would have a hard time setting up a tent on a premium site.

So this type of thing happens.

That leaves plenty of space for cars.

Under the current rules, I guess these folks could have 8 cars and a few trailers on their pavement, along with those tents.

But, the poor guy with a motorhome and golf cart trailer next door is out of luck should he dare to park his trailer off to the side of his site.

    Does that make any sense?

    TCD

Do the current rules allow more than 1 vehicle (not including camper) per campsite? I didn't think they did.

  8. So, that everyone is clear, this is the letter that the helpful Rangers pass out regarding this new rule:

    100_0765.jpg

If you can park your trailer on your site so that the wheels are on the pad, then you are good to go.

This isn't hard on the premium sites, and with a little creative placement, can also be accomplished on the other site levels as well.

I have yet to see anything being done to enforce this rule with respect to golf carts not being on the pad, but I guess they might start doing that at some point.

    TCD

I don't see anything wrong with this. One of the things that ruin the Disney "magic" for us is seeing sites that are overloaded with vehicles, golf carts & trailers parked all over the site instead of being neat & tidy and having everything parked on the pad. I just hope it's enforced equally to everyone.

  9. There was a post on the "other" site (that was quickly deleted) asking where TCD was and when I chimed in to, a member there by the name of "MICKEYLOVINMOMOF5" sent me a PM letting me know about this place. Problem was, her message looked like this:

    happy Camping!

They actually blocked text in a PM! She sent a second message and it was blocked too. Then for some reason, I did a Google search for "Fort Fiends" and found it and I'm glad I did!

  10. I am at a Yogi bear camp ground right now and we have to wear wrist bands all weekend. Even the snack stand will not sell food to you with out a wrist band. Don't even get near the pool and slides with out one.

We've stayed at the Yogi Bear campground in Burleson, TX a few times and they do the same. I didn't have any problem with it. I would love to see FW do something to keep non-FW guests out of FW.

  11. If anybody out there needs to replace their fabric on their slide out toppers, I thought I would share this info. I have a 2005 Georgie Boy Pursuit 3500DS with dual slides that came with the A&E slide out toppers. The fabric started going bad after just 3 years and was pretty much completely shredded at 4 years. I stopped by McClain's RV, a dealer that shares space with Camping World in South Fort Worth, Texas and had them quote me on installing new fabric. They told me about a $1000. I said no thank you. I called around and got prices ranging from $750 to $900 for OE replacement fabric. I couldn't bring myself to spend that much on stuff that I would have to have replaced again 3 years later. So I started doing some research and found this company: Tough Tops They specialize in slide out topper awning replacement fabric and that's it. It's a really high quality fabric available in different colors. So I emailed them the sizes, they emailed back a PayPal invoice, I confirmed it and sent payment of around $300 for 12' long pieces and 2 weeks later I had new fabric. I had also did some research on how to install these and found several videos on YouTube that really helped plus there was there was some pretty good instructions on the Tough Tops web site. The first slide was pretty hard and I did it wrong the first time and had to take it off and re-do it. That side probably took 2 to 3 hours. But by the time I got to the second one, I was an expert. I had it done in less than 30 minutes. All in all it wasn't too bad and I'm really glad I did it myself (with the help of my wife & oldest son) which saved me at least $600 and now I have fabric that is much thicker & nicer and should last a lot longer.

Here's a pic of the driver side. If you have any questions, let me know.
