  1. Check. And, there are plenty of folks who can and have written great trip reports. And I enjoy reading every one of them! I know. I promise you it would never happen during football season. I am signing out now. Maybe I can squeeze in another installment before Monday. But, if not, I will be back then to pick up where we left off. TCD
  2. Now, where were we? Ah, yes . . . We were at the support for the old FWRR trestle. About to begin our journey through the wilderness in search of the old tracks. Here we are, in that very spot, looking across the creek toward the dog park. In these two photos, you can clearly see the dog park fence: Here's a look at the creek in this area. You can see that the creek curves off to the right here: Remember those rocks we saw around the sidewalk that was poured over the railbed on the way to the Meadow Trading Post? It is called ballast? Well, look here. Here we can clearly see an old railro
  3. Hi Leslie! I am glad to see you over here! I have always enjoyed your trip reports, too. If I remember right, you were planning a visit to BLT. Has that happened yet? If so, we could use a report over here. If not, I would love to hear about it when you get back. TCD
  4. Sorry, Dave. But, I am about to post an installment for you to read tonight. Have you been eating a lot of cabbage pie on this trip? Hello Mr. Mayor! Your powers of persuasion finally paid off. I made it. You will be getting a shout out in just a bit. I saw you on this trip. No surprise there, eh? Yes, I did. And, I am loving it! What fun! That is awesome! Our Webmasters absolutely rock! I am going to use the heck out of that feature. BTW- I still need that video of the arrows that lop off turkeys heads if anyone can find it. Man, everybody is here! Thanks. TCD
  5. Not too much longer! Thanks, Monique. I think y'all have waiting long enough. So, more is on the way. I don't know? No comment. True. (About the you never know part!) TCD
  6. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! That's three thankyou's for three moonwalking bananas. I love it! Hey John! I am happy to see you here, too. It has been a while! I know you had some medical issues a while back. I hope all is well with you and your family. I need a beer, too. But, first I'm going to give you a special treat. A Saturday installment! That doesn't happen very often. But, I am going to reward all the loyal readers. It is great to be back. True. I also need a new camera. But that is a story for another day. Hey, Harold! My old buddy from down the street (although I have only m
  7. WOW! Just, Wow. I said when I started this trip report that I wanted to see it have at least a thousand views. We are now closing in on two thousand, and we are not even close to the half-way point in this report. Awesome! As is my practice, I will be responding to your comments, but before I do that, I wanted to say that while some of you may have missed me, I didn't realize how much I missed all of you until I started reading your comments. What a great group of folk this is! And think about it for a minute. We have a guy reading along in Russia. And another in Texas. And a lady in Minnesota
  8. Hey this is a great trip report. I have a photo request. Do you know where bear rock is? Just go out the back of the Meadow Trading Post, and head toward the little dock behind it. Look to the left, and you will see a group of rocks. Please see if you can get a photo. I was actually at the Fort earlier this week, and noticed that the water level was very low. Bear Rock was high and dry! This is what it looks like normally: That would make a good photo. Enjoy the rest of your stay! It looks like the weather should be nice this weekend! TCD
  9. OK, it's time. To tell you about my little adventure. But first, we will take a look at the 1500 loop. That is where I wanted to be. But, they said it was full. But on Saturday, it wasn't. A lot of the campers who had been there were packing up to leave. But, the FW crew was setting up a bunch of rental tents. A bunch. Here's one: And this is where we meet this trip's real man of genius. Right here on 1500. As we entered the loop, we heard a dog barking. Loudly! Here he is: He's chained to the picnic table. The real man of genius had packed up his tent, and went somewhere. Leaving Fido chain
  10. Just a second there, missy. Your most recent trip report rocked! And there are some other good ones on here, too. If any of you reading this one have not read S70's, it just a few below this one on the trip report page. Read it! Well, maybe if you had started this trip report for me, I would have shown up here sooner. Oh well, better late than never. Thanks, but I suggest you reserve judgment until you meet me. I am not really a gentleman. But I (usually) know when to keep my mouth shut. For what it's worth, I really liked where I used to post, and I'm sad about what happened. I don't have
  11. Thanks, Stephanie. Well put. So, this trip report was started just 24 hours ago. And, currently the stats show 796 views. Which makes it the second-most read trip report in the short history of this board. And gaining on the most-read trip report. Which is yours! I've got you in my sights! This baby is going way past the thousand view mark! Way to go Fiends! And, this report is just getting started! TCD
  12. Well, then, you get a special welcome! And a tip . . . Don't just look at the pictures. There is some good stuff buried in the text. Hopefully, I'll meet up with you one of these days at the Fort. Until then, enjoy the report. TCD
  13. Thanks, Lorna. It is good to see you here. And it will be even better to see you one of these days at the Fort. I see your husband was re-named somewhere along the line. What's the story there? (if you can tell it in public) TCD
  14. OK, good. Got it. Got to keep the Fiends straight. True. Yes, the Fort turkeys taste much better than store bought. But, not enough to make it worth the effort. Trust me on that. TCD
  15. Todd- I was very disappointed and a bit angry when I made that post. That is in the past, and I see no reason to discuss it. As far as I am concerned, nothing has changed except the address of the website where I post. And this place has awesome owners and webmasters. As you know, there are great folks here. One of the reasons I stayed away for a while is that I do not want to be a part of anything negative. So, i am not going to go there. The past is in the past. You ain't seen nothing yet. As I mentioned earlier, on this trip I ventured into a part of the Fort which even I have never vis
  16. Well, it seems that most of you have read a TCD trip report before. And, even if you haven't, you may have noticed that there are plenty of photos. That's my thing. Quantity. Not quality. And this post will be provide a perfect illustration. I mentioned an animal encounter on our first looping excursion of Saturday morning. More specifically we had a bird encounter. And, even more specifically we had a turkey encounter. As we entered the 1700 loop, we noticed a turkey herd. Or is it gaggle? Or flock? Or posse? I don't know. Let's just say there was a group of turkeys. Naturally, I needed a ph
  17. "Possible" return of the TCDRMOG award? Scratch the "possible!" If TCD is writing a trip report, there are two things you can always count on: 1. There will be photos of site 617. and 2. There will be a TCDRMOG award. You can take that to the bank! Well, then, please keep reading. Because this trip's winner will be announced soon. I found him on Saturday morning. In the 1500 loop. OK, got ya. These TCD trip reports are interactive. You can ask any question, and it will be answered. You can hijack to your hear't's content. Welcome! I noticed. TCD
  18. So far so good. I see that we are generating a good number of views. And, thanks for all of the comments. Let's move along with this report! We left off with my return trip to the 2000 loop via the 900 loop bridge. And, here we are on the path on the 900 loop which leads to the bridge: Here is the aforementioned bridge: Here we are on the bridge looking at the ditch. If you followed the path you see to the right of the ditch, you would be walking in the pet walk area behind the 800 loop: After crossing the bridge, we find ourselves in the group camping area. There are quite a few campers
  19. Dole Whip? Treat? You are my new BFF! Let me know when you will be at the Fort! Hey KFK- I'm glad to see that there is a future trip for the KFK gang there in your ticker! Gee, thanks. How about a moonwalking banana for old times sake? Thanks. And, sorry, but there will be no Dole Whip lessons. Everybody here is smart enough to figure out how to make a Dole Whip (with one notable exception). Thanks. Do you go with KFK? Or are you some other dude from SC? TCD
  20. Well, Thanks. I am glad some folks got to see my farewell post. And, I am looking forward to more TCD trip reports too! Yuri, not so much. Hello Deb! You will be getting a shout-out in just a bit in this report. This is the trip where I stopped by for a little visit when you were talking to the Mayor. Thanks. Man, you got some fancy smileys there, don't ya? TCD
  21. Well, it seems as if we are getting off to a bit of a slow start here. Because it is still Saturday morning. And we are still out exploring. It was very cold at night over this weekend. It was in the low 30’s when I woke up. The TCD twins were still fast asleep in the warm camper when I checked back on them. All was quiet at the campsite: Please note that I have attempted to assualt every tree in my site with a piece of rope. I hope that all of you clothesline fans appreciate the effort! This mob of girls was engaged in a loud and boisterous jump-rope competition: As a father of three dau
  22. Hey, Ken! Glad to see you over here. I'm not sure why anyone would want to go over there. Here is where it is at! Maybe I will get to meet you later this year. Hello Olivia! How are things? I'm glad to see you here. Too bad you have to wait until Monday. When you get back and caught up, we will need to discuss some Tennessee and Florida football. TCD
  23. So let's see if Chris really did increase the photo limit . . . Continuing on with our report, it is still early in the morning on Saturday, February 12, 2011. These folks were set up on the last site in the 100 loop. They have been on this site for a while. I remember their whimsical signs reminding us to Dream, Relax, Imagine, and Giggle. I appreciate the reminder. I need to do more of all four of those things: While I was there, I tried to Dream, Relax, Imagine and Giggle all at the same time. Not an easy thing to do. As I think about it, some of these things are contradictory. Th
  24. Yes. ma'am Lynn! More is coming up. And tell George to get on here. I have some sleuthing photos coming up in a bit. TCD
  25. If your dad finds any old Fort photos, I would love to see them! Speaking of trains. there is something that your dad may want to see coming up in just a bit. Well, the long wait is over! Enjoy! Enjoy! Thanks, Dave. I think I have some more porch photos here somewhere. But, we will move on to some other things first. What? Who are you? Intruder alert! Intruder alertt! The real MomofSix would give the kids cold beans for dinner and finish reading this report! Just kidding. I'm glad to see that you are here, too. And, I see a return trip is in your future! Awesome! Your first TCD report? Wha
