We prefer Pigeon Forge over Gatlinburg for camping. And yes go to the Apple Barn. We spent two weeks in the area and loved every minute. They have several mountain coasters, but the kids loved " Goats on the Roof". We enjoyed Bennett's Pit Bar-B-Que also. I also have to tell you that Dollywood has some excellent food that shouldn't be overlooked. Gatlinburg was also fun and as stated Calhoun's and Smokey Mountain Brewery were good. We also had a great lunch at Mountain Edge Grill in Gatlinburg. The Bush's Baked Bean Headquarters and factory is within an hour of Pigeon Forge and we had a fun time visiting it.

On one of our last trips we ended up at the Centracare on 192 by the Ale House. They were excellent and the visit was fast, efficient and got us back into our vacation quickly. I can also add that they are honest. When we were there, we presented our insurance cards and then paid whatever they had asked for and we were just grateful that they helped. Nearly seven months later, we get a letter in the mail from them and inside is a check. The letter explains that an over payment occurred due to insurance coverage and here was the refund. Seven states and seven months later they send a check ? When we had a documented over payment with our local provider, it was a three month argument and finally a credit to the account.

OK all you procrastinators... Your ability to put off buying an Instant Pot is being rewarded. Walmart Black Friday has the 5 QT. on page 32 at $49.00..

No problem Keith.... We drove up to the Franconia Springfield Station which is about an hour up I 95. I think it was right around 50 Miles. Nice big parking deck and covered walkways into the metro station. We would take the blue line into the city and then head to the Main Train Station. 3 flights up we would be on the ground/ street level. You can buy your day passes for the grey line trams and take them all over the city and jump on and off. We would time it so we took the last tram for the city out to the Lincoln Memorial late in the afternoon. We then take the outer loop tram out to Arlington and do the cemetery. I don't remember with certainty but it is the same tour company and I think we had to pay additional for the Arlington tour and again it is jump on and off in Arlington. When we finally got back to the entrance, you walk out of the building and cross the street and there is a blue line stop right there. 15 minutes later you are back at your vehicle and headed south to Fredericksburg.

It's about 14 miles from the campground to the convention center. We drove up to the end of the metro blue line and ran that into DC for our day trips. Took it to the central train station and then bought our grey line tickets. Took the final tram to Arlington National Cemetery and then took the blue line from there back to the truck. There is a train that goes from Fredericksburg to the metro line station. ie... beginning of the blue line. We found the hours were not conducive to our travel plans as the trains were very limited in time frames. We elected to drive to the metro station where the trains ran every 10-20 minutes until late at night.

Gretchen,
We stayed there. It was quiet and clean and we would stay there again. Decent restaurants along the highway on the way in. We enjoyed Mimi's Cafe. Make sure you go to Carl's Frozen Custard stand. It was like a block party while everyone waits in line and it moves fast. But it was a great experience. Tasty too...

Thanksgiving dinner looked delicious. Spending it at the Fort with family... priceless.... As far as the Bills fan, he won't get that trailer back to Buffalo until April... Unless he has a snow plow attached to the front of the truck...

I'm in and you're off to Cali... Enjoy your time, and have fun in Disneyland. I'm glad you were able to have Thanksgiving at the Fort.

It's recommended to wear you backpack in reverse so that it isn't emptied by the pick pocket thieves while you walk down the streets. That particular area of London is a mad house and pick pocket thieves work the area regularly.
