  1. Was the Yankee Trader original from the park's opening, or was there something else in that space at one time?

It was originally the Heritage Shop.  I have a colonial tri-cornered hat and a copy of the Declaration of Independence from there.  They sold patriotic red, white, and blue merchandise.

Smuckers Jams and Jellies were sold at the Market House on Main Street. (My dad always bought their apricot jelly.)  That is where the Confectionery Store  is now I believe.

  2. Yeah Lou...   we do say that Disney has idiot managers and everything else.  But Disney still makes approximately 11 billion dollars.  Say what you want about management, but someone knows what the hell they're doing.  Someone at Disney knows how to make money and plan for it.  Heck if it was easy, then GM would be at $87 a share.

My post reflected my doubts that a high end price point resort was needed and you agree on some level.  Couple that with the fact that they have no extra Disney benefits such as magic hours, dining reservations, park transportation etc... and it becomes an issue to compete with Disney. Especially when you live in the legal jurisdiction that they created and control (ie Reedy Creek).

Four Seasons does about 3.5 billion a year and they rarely own the properties with their names on it.   They took a gamble but at the same time, they are within the mystical lines of Reedy Creek.  If they don't succeed or meet their goals,  they have to know that Disney will buy their land back within the RC Development area.   It's not that Four Season is going to fail and then just sell out to Red Roof.   Considering how Disney has protected their land,  the rumors of Walt's family being behind the sale and development of that area make sense on some levels.

As far as a 5 star resort being successful and profitable at Disney,   until Disney tries to enter the 5 star world, it is just speculation like my posting.   I think that to be successful at that price point they would have to have some incredible perks from Disney.  I believe the adage, "Build it and they will come" may apply, but you're going to need to have some serious Disney magic.

Time will tell...   I hope your right and I'm sure the the investors are praying you're right.....

  3. I sometimes wonder if Disney secretly let them build this knowing it is going to fail because it is not a Disney Resort.  Then Disney can buy it for a song and have a 5 star hotel that would probably be successful since they would get all the Disney perks at that time.   Time will only tell if the Four Seasons can last Four Seasons....  :rofl3:

  4. Our new kitchen is not near where the contractors said it would be so we are missing this year.  I so wanted to go to this GG.   Not only is it going to be epic,  the campground is near the home of Mark Twain and  Norman Rockwell 's  Museum.     We're in next year !

  5. TCD report on his Trip to the Keys has started me thinking I should write down some of the things we did in the 40 years or so going fishing to the Keys. There are only 2 of us left who went and both of us are in our 70s. Don't know if anyone in my family would be interested, but would hate for all the memories to be completely forgotten. If there is anyone on this board interested in how a Florida farm family went fishing cheap every summer, I could post some of them on here.

Tom, Post them...    I love fishing and fishing stories

  6. From my bar tending days we made them like this.

    1 oz Vodka
    2 oz Orange Juice
    1 oz Maraschino Liqueur

I am aware of another type that uses chocolate pieces placed in vodka bottles.  You melt the chocolate by putting the vodka bottle in your dishwasher.  Then you refrigerate it and serve it cold.  Some people mix ice cream with it and you get a vodka milkshake...  Not sure why some call this a vodka surprise.

  7. The worst day at the Fort is better than a good day at work.   Just remember Jason, your not the only one.   Other stories on FF and our personal experience is that everyone pays for their time at the fort on one level or another.   Have a great 4th of July GG and letRennie and Beth know that we asked about them !   To all the other fiends !   Make it Count !!!!!

  8. I'm loving this report...  Anne pics....   Dave's beautiful family..   plus in laws....  and a wealth of information on the comparisons of the different cruise companies and policies.   Bravo to RCCL for their special needs policies...   You would think a major corporation in children's marketing would have that figured out.
