  1. Looking forward to the Lions Super Bowl.......the draft.

I'm a lifelong Dolphins fan, but I tried to become a Lions fan when I worked in Detroit.  I figured that I could use an NFC team to cheer on.  Unfortunately, it was during the Matt Millen era.  Enough said.

  2. I wish the Marlins well starting now.  Hopefully they'll have good luck in Kansas City tomorrow!

I hate to kick a person when they are down but this is the MLB thread and it has to be said...

Go Braves!  Great win!  This is the beginning of a new winning streak!

You can't hurt me any more than Marlins management.  I figured order would be restored today.  Enjoy Turner Field.  Last time that I went to Turner to watch the Marlins play the Braves, DramaMama42 and I were not received very warmly.  I think it was the season after the last World Series victory when we still had the illusion of being a real team.  I was disappointed in how rudely we were treated, but I know most opposing fans are capable of that sort of thing.  We just found the wrong group of fans but haven't felt the urge to go back.

  3. I love the Marlins.  They traded us Miguel Cabrera.

    I feel your pain though.

I was also a Braves fan in the 80s....(long live the baby blues).......and have lived through numerous horrible Tiger teams in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Cubs fan is a glutton for punishment though.

The fire sale after winning each World Series is inexcusable by the Marlins franchise IMHO.

I worked for a theatre in Detroit for a few years so I picked up a fondness for the Tigers too.  Good thing too.  Many Marlins wind up in Detroit after our semi-annual fire sales.

    I miss Miguel!

  4. I have found them to be friendly and cordial.

Indeed.  The Fort mosquitos have previously invited me out for dinner as the guest of honor (and main course.)  Apparently I'm wagyu beef to the insect foodie crowd.

Most stays I don't remember having too much trouble with them.  Of course, I rarely visit during the summer.  Sorry to hear about the standing water -- that's killed us here in Middle Georgia this year too.

  5. Just getting caught up with this thread and feel the need to vent about pre-season rankings.  I absolutely hate them.  If we absolutely have to have the silly things (and for the current system, we do) then rankings should not go up until well into the season.  The early rankings give ridiculous advantages to the teams with high, unearned placements.  Note that I am an Alabama grad and fan and STILL feel the need to rant about this silliness.

It also drives me crazy how losses carry different weight in different parts of the season.  Lose in the first few weeks and your ranking can plummet as the pollsters try to fix the problems with the pre-season rankings.  Lose at the end of the season and kiss your national championship hopes goodbye.  Lose in the middle of the season and you still have hope.  Alabama was at the very edge of that window last year.  Craziness.  Of course it does give us college football fans something to argue about.  Not sure we could survive without the proper level of argument.

Oh, and about Manziel.  What college Sophomore has a personal assistant?  Bizarre.  I hope he gets busted down -- it might actually make him a better player and person in the future.  He seems like a cautionary tale waiting to happen right now.

Okay, I feel better.  Isn't college football great?

    Roll Tide!

  6. Can I just say it's tough to be a Miami Marlins fan this year?  Who am I kidding, it's tough to be a Marlins fan EVERY year.  Even when they win you just know the players are going to be auctioned off the next year.  Sigh.

Still, I was at their first game and can't seem to shake my affection for them.  I think I may be finally understanding Cubs fans...
