I made a suncatcher from the metal Mickey head Sensei offered for his first contest. I decided to use Makit & Bakit crystals.

Here are a few things I learned:

Bake @ 375 degrees for 15-25 minutes. Mine was closer to 25. It smells bad while it is baking. 5+ on DaveinTN's OH scale.

Make sure the cookie sheet you bake it on is flat. Put the Mickey head on it and make sure it touches the cookie sheet on all edges. I had to change cookie sheets at the beginning of the process because the first one wasn't flat. I was afraid the cookie sheet would pop (warp?) as it heated. Mine didn't (whew!).

Cover the cookie sheet with foil. Try to keep the foil as smooth as possible. Any wrinkle, etc will show up on the finished product. You can see where a foil wrinkle was in the main head part of the yellow.

The baking crystals cooled slightly smaller than the Mickey head. I added more crystals to the edges where the plastic was pulling away from the frame and baked it again. (make sure you reserve several teaspoons of crytals so you can do this if necessary.)

The finished baked plastic popped out of the Mickey head. I used a couple drops of superglue to keep them in place. I have no clue if that was the right thing to do. A couple drops of clear silicone on the back side might be a better idea.

If you drill holes for hangers of some sort, make sure you don't clog the holes with the baking crystals. Some of the hot crystals got near one of the holes, so I used a wood kabob stick to clean it out.

The plastic crackles as it cools. It's supposed to be just fine. It was louder than I thought it would be.

PS: From my other post:

I had trouble finding the baking crystals locally or online at a price I was willing to pay or with colors I was interested it.

I wish I had seen this company prior to ordering what I used on Ebay. You can buy the colors individually:

These people have OK prices but limited colors:

This company sells the crystals (you don't get to select the colors) but their shipping is about equal to the cost of the product.

That's all I can think of for now. Happy crafting.
