The turkeys wander everywhere. I miss the peacocks I've got a picture of several at the Fort many years ago. They were beautiful.

I rode my scooter on the path between WL and FW one time about dusk. The deer were everywhere!! One actually jumped right out in front of me. Thought I was going to hit it.

What exactly happened to the peacocks? I heard on another podcast they were an annoyance to the campers and were relocated not sure if that's accurate though.

I have a dog who loves to go for walks at 4 am.  Vacation makes no difference to him.  On our trip in October, on one walk around the 500 loop, we saw armadillo, turkeys, raccoons.  I usually seen 10 or more deer at a time on the trail to the lodge when I take my early morning bike ride.  Sometimes they are a hazard, since they are not really afraid of humans, they will stand on the trail itself and I have to weave my bike in and out of the group.  I have also seen bald eagles out by Bay Lake.  I have heard owls many times, but they are somewhat elusive and I have only seen them a couple times, but if you are patient and follow the hoots, you can find them high in the trees.

A couple of years ago I was on a morning walk with my dog.  He is a 75 lb golden doodle.  A golf cart came by with a mom, dad and young boy about 3.  The parents must have told the kid they were going to see wildlife, because as soon as he saw my dog, he pointed at him and said "look, Dad, wildlife!"

Yeah I'm usually doing the 4 am walk with the dogs myself when we camp. Although we don't bring them to the Fort because we spend so much time in the parks. I still get up and run and that's when I see the most wildlife. One time I went running on the trails before daylight and as soon as I heard a deer crashing through the woods I turned around. Not sure who was more spooked me or him.

    Awesome Podcast!!

Only two little notes. The partial hookup sites - Loop 1500 and 2000 also have cable now.

Loop 2100 was recently converted from a cabin loop to a Full Hookup loop.

    Good job, Wade.

    Carol's corrections are right.

Haha... I knew I was going to mess something up on that one. I actually spent probably 2 hours researching it too. At this rate, it won't be long before I will have enough corrections to fill a whole show. Thanks for listening.

  4. DisCamp Podcast Episode 8 - the different types of campsites at Fort Wilderness is up.

I know most of you already know all about the differences in preferred, premium and full hook up but it's still a confusing topic for some people. Thanks to @Tri-Circle-D for shedding some light on why the categories are the way they are. Hope ya'll enjoy it.

It was FABULOUS. It was combination Haunted Mansion walkthrough and spook house. They had the front gates with the posts and lights run to them, they had the projections on busts with the singing ghosts. They had folks dressed up in costumes from various characters in the attraction. They had a "stretching" room (with material rolling up and down the pictures for the "stretching" part.

Unfortunately, didn't take any pictures. It was a last minute decision to go looping for all the decorations before folks tore them down. I appears there were about 3 families going in this together. They had 4 sites in addition to the empty site with just the spook house. They had both the inside and outside graveyard. Really just very well done.

Here is a video someone posted on twitter.

  6. This happened to us on our last trip as well. We waited close to an hour for the bus to Epcot. One family was worried about missing their breakfast reservation and told the Disney Springs bus driver who did not have anybody to take. He switched his electronic sign and took us to Epcot. Not sure if that's a normal occurrence but it's worth a shot if you are sitting there for awhile.

We were on 75 around 2pm and got a text from Disney with our site number.

Upon arrival I used the returning guest entrance, as there was about 12 or so cars in the other line. Went through overflow parking into the Campgroung right to my site.

    Could not have been easier.

Awesome. I wanna give that a try. How long are ya'll staying? We will be there in 10 days.

    We're glad too!

Wow... they're nothing if not consistent!

It's truly remarkable that after all these years, they're still shooting themselves in the foot by banning new people who are looking to contribute good content, simply because they post here too.  Seriously kids... it's been 6+ years and when was the last time anyone even mentioned Fort Fiends over there? I haven't pointed my browser in that direction in years at this point and  anyone that's joined there in the last 4-5 years probably knows nothing about "The Great Brouhaha." THEY are the ones keeping the nonsense alive by continuing to behave like pouty children.

But then again, if they're continuing to rely on us here to scavenge content, they probably don't want to risk being called out on it.   Again.  :P

Yeah a podcast (especially a little one like mine) is not much different than a message board post. Its just an audio version for people on the go. For them to ban me because their Website has a podcast that rarely mentions Fort Wilderness is hilariously misguided.

Funny you mention the brouhaha. I first lurked on Fort Fiends in 2013 before our first trip to the Fort and saw numerous cryptic posts referencing the other site, etc. I didn't get it at the time but I'm starting to connect the dots. I literally had never heard of the camping portion of that forum until I stumbled across it on google Monday night.

That's OK. Reading posts here is probably the only enjoyment any of them experience all day.

And this site is the only resource available to them for accurate information about the Fort.  Otherwise, they would be relying on guesses because most of them rarely visit the Fort.

I'm glad I'm Team Fort Fiends then.
